Undertakers wrestlemania streak IS NOT THAT IMPRESSIVE

his taken out SOME huge names, like HBK, Flair, HHH...

but how many of his opponents have been mid card?

thats not even my main point.....

most of his wm matches have not been that good. boring in fact. only the HBK match would make it onto a top ten WM list imo.
if im wrong let me know :)

His match against Batista was very good at WM 23. I am pretty sure that won Match of the Year that year.

I thought Orton-Taker was really impressive as well, actually thought Orton would win at stages.

Here's the streak, with my opinion:

Snuka - First Mania outing, fine.
Roberts - Good match
Gonzalez - Shit.
Bundy - Not great.
Diesel - Good.
Sid - Meh match, but it gets kicked up a notch for winning the title.
Kane - Great.
Bossman - Shit
Hunter - Great
Flair - Good
Bossman/A-Train - "Okay". Shouldn't have happened in the first place really, but this was the point that Taker was pretty much a midcarder so it's fine.
Kane - Good
Orton - Great
Henry - Bad.
Batista - Better than people make it out to be
Edge - Great
Michaels - Amazing, easily his best Mania match, possibly his best match ever. Only match I'd possibly put against it is the first Cell, and it's against the same man.

Out of these, I'd only list four, MAYBE five matches in the "not impressive" category.

But it's not all about who he's gotten wins over (12 out of 17 at least decent matches is still impressive) but the fact that it's happened AT WrestleMania.

If you want to complain about a streak, complain about Goldberg's. Never mind the phantom wins, but the vast majority were 1-5 minute squashes. That's not impressive.

wtf, we just had this exact same discussion like 3 weeks ago

Exactly. I've always wondered how can it be that Goldberg had let's say 43 wins and next week on Nitro he's got 51.

I'm just glad that Taker never got Benoit at Mania.

How would that be handled? Especially for the video packages that count/show his victories.

It would look like Taker pinning a huge black rectangle the size of Benoit's body.

It's impressive that he's been around/over long enough to not only appear on that many Wrestlemania cards, but be chosen to go over everytime.

That's real. The credibility of the opponents is a work, but if you want to go there there have been more than enough legitimate stars he's faced at Wrestlemania. Some of them are midcarders because Taker is over enough to draw against them. There hasn't always been a roster with more main eventers than you can count on both hands.
They had to work with what they had in the 90s, and a lot of times that meant dedicating the stars to the main event and allowing Taker's stardom to carry a nobody into being a somebody.

you want to complain about goldbergs' streak, complain about sid's streak apparently every jobber he powerbombed classed as a win

i think if there's no choice (like it is an integral part of a match or angle) they include clips of benoit. For example i just saw KOTR 02 on wwe on demand recently and benoit made a run in in the flair/eddy match. They obviously shortened it up a bit and edited out the announcers saying his name, but he was still shown for a few seconds

Benoit isn't excluded from full shows anymore, only video packages and non event DVDs.

I've been told that on the Monday Night Wars, they edit out his matches and mute commentary when he's discussed on Nitro.

On the Wrestlemania site under the history section for Wrestlemania XX they have Benoit back in the main event. I remember in 2007 they changed it to HHH(c) vs HBK with it just talking about their rivalry and HHH losing the title but no mention of HBK winning it or mention of Benoit at all.

They did that for a while but they recently (maybe a year ago) started leaving him in.

Yup... Just remember we are in the Wrestling world kids... It's not like this is 61 homeruns with an asterik by it... It's impressive b/c it's WM...

Can't remember exactly if Edge lost a match before loosing to the Undertaker at Wrestlemania but the build up of Edge having his own undefeated streak made that match much better storyline-wise. Edge wanted to break Undertaker's streak so his could go on and become The Streak.

Undertaker's streak should be him running around the arena naked at every Wrestlemania.

yep. iv been very much so proven wrong with the quality of undertakers wm matches. ill cop that one.

still, 3 or 4 are very crap matches. but not enough to sour the streak.

Is it just me or are they making a bigger deal about Undertaker's streak now than they used to because the WWE really doesn't have much else going on for them now?

Jeritron
03-22-2010, 10:09 PM
or because it's gotten to a point where it's 17 years long, and not 5

I totally thought we were going to complain about the streak not being impressive because wrestling is scripted and fake..

WWE needs to get Vampiro ,so he can feud with Taker...then at WrestleMania 27 ...the streak ends with Vampiro drinking Taker dry....lol
