View Full Version : Batista Leaving

From PWInsider:

The word making the rounds in Baltimore, where the WWE crew has already arrived for tomorrow's Extreme Rules PPV, is that Batista is finishing up with the company this week. He's challenging John Cena in a Last Man Standing bout on the PPV. Batista has made noises about leaving dating back to this January, so we'll see whether this is really it or not for him soon enough.

Currently, Batista is not listed on either the Raw or Smackdown roster pages on the WWE website.

I reported the following on 4/20 in the PWInsider.com Elite section:

"Batista's contract has either expired or will be expiring later this summer, depending on who the source is. I can't see the company pushing him so hard if his deal had expired, so I believe it's the latter. I was told Batista was informed he might not be starring in Killing Karma right around Wrestlemania weekend but the official decision wasn't made until about 7-10 days before the never-ending European trip. One of the reasons for the change is that WWE didn't want to release a film with him down the line if he wasn't under their employ."

Mmmm...Rehashed news.

Kinda weird to think it was just a month ago they were paralleling his career with Cena's. Of course, if Kareru gets his wish and Batista goes to TNA, they could parallel each other as top dogs in their respective organisations.

Man, for all the people leaving/been fired from the WWE recently, this is honestly 1 person I'm glad to see go.

I am sadly not bothered by the idea of Batista not being in the WWE anymore. If TNA picked him up, it would probably get them some attention. Even if they just got him to be muscle for AJ Styles for a few weeks. Keeps Dave's name out there, and he doesn't really have to do anything.

Well he started as D-Von's deacon back in 2002 but he got in Evolution in 2003 which was what put him over.

Back when Dave was cool, I didn't see how the WWE could get more than one World Heavyweight Title reign out of him. His character seemed destined to fizzle out. It did, but an extra three World Heavyweight Title reigns later along with another two WWE Title reigns, and I'd say he had a pretty successful career.

Yeah, Dave had a few moments that made me happy. Lots of dullness, though. Lots.

Oddly, really digging this heel run. So, go figure.

That's too bad although I've bever been a big Batista fan or anything but this only means that we'll have to put up with more of Cena's bs I hope he reconsiders and screw TNA they'd misuse him even more.

I hate to say it, but this has TNA written all over it. Batista has the body of a 65 year old from all the "supplements." TNA gives him a light schedule. We may think otherwise, but to most fans he would be their biggest acquisition to date, which would stroke his ego. Flair's there... and he would get to stick it to WWE. I can see him crossing the line.

If he did leave..I would be surprised. We don't like Batista but the little kids that watch WWE do for the most part. He is a big draw. Feels like WWE is letting go a lot of top talent very easily..Hardy,Kennedy,possibly Batista..HBK is gone and I can't see Undertaker sticking around for much longer. I sense WWE is going to have a year like it did back in 2005..when Austin, Rock and Foley were gone and they had to give characters like Batista, JBL and Cena a huge push to make them top talent.

This is the chance for TNA that was more than likely not going to happen. We discussed this in a thread a few months back.
Signing great wrestlers and stars from generations past can help the product so much, but the biggest move they could pull is actually signing someone who is currently one of WWE's biggest stars. Obviously Cena is the prime example, but that isn't going to happen.
This was really one of the only outside chance. Obviously TNA sheep will probably bitch, but it's good for business.
Personally I hope it happens. I want TNA to make a run, and Batista had been stale in WWE for years. His heel run was awesome but it was likely to end soon anyways.
If TNA were smart they'd do everything in their power to sign him and really make something meaningful out of him in a heel capacity.
He may only have a year or two left in the tank but that's really all it would take.

Jeritron
04-25-2010, 11:26 AM
I still kind of doubt him taking what would be percieved as a step backwards. At the same time, his parting from WWE doesn't seem the most pleasant and he may want to stick it to them while picking up an easy paycheck in Orlando.

Interesting. He's on the SmackDown roster page and everything but when you click on it you get a Page Not Found error. Then if you sub "smackdown" for "raw" in the URL, his page pops up as though he was a Raw superstar. Even WWE doesn't know what show he is meant to officially be a part of.

I've been a big Batista mark since day one and have been flamed for it on a few occasions. It really upsets me that he's leaving, especially with how his character has been most recently.

It didn't work for the IWC, but he was still getting huge pops. He was even getting pops during his feud with Rey Mysterio a few months ago.

If last night was his last outing, he at least tried to make it a good one. Fuckin' gay way to end Extreme Rules though, having Dave's legs get wrapped in duct tape to keep him down. I swear, just when you think the RAW creative team can't go any lower than before, they always come up with another gem of gayness. :nono:

Next Big Thing
04-26-2010, 08:54 AM
They were being clever... LOL. If Dave is leaving I think he got the best send off of someone who isn't retiring from the company after decades of wrestling service. I figured his final time in a WWE ring would end with the FU, Five Knuckle Shuffle, multiple tea bags from Cena to the face before passing out after the STFU.

By having Cena duct tape his legs in order to beat him he kinda came out looking strong. Maybe their trying not to piss him off too much in case he's open to returning.

With Shelton Benjamin probably going to TNA in only a matter of time. And Batista maybe going to TNA I think it'll help TNA. Shelton could have a lot of good matches in the X division with TNA.

Yeah, all those screaming fans and all those "Unleash the Animal" posters proved it.

IWC rule #422: fan responses only matter if it's someone we like.

Addendum: And if it is someone we like, we will lie through our teeth.

in other words, Batista was a failure.

And Shelton, god WWE fucked up with him. He's pretty incredible and has always done what he's been told. TNA will be lucky to get him.

True, but his character was bland as hell and he seemed to be struggling with how exactly to go about being a face.
