Every time I boot up, instead of just having the normal boot process I end up with this as the 1st message on the screen for the past few days:

"Smart Failure Predicted on Hard Disc 2 : WDC WD800BEVS 60LAT0-(51)"

I searched on google and aparently its related to the harddrive beinging to fail although the laptop never had any issues leading up to the "smart failure" and the hardrive isn't showing the other signs such as random crashes or random black screens.

If I were to reformat/reinstall using the Recovery software, would this problem be fixed or at least give me enough time till around the back to school sales to get a cheap but decent priced computer?

Only concern I have is how the error talks about Hard Disc 2 which I would assume is a 2nd drive but my laptop only has 1 drive that is split between C drive (Windows) and the Recovery drive.

Most of the time, yes.

Also, keep an eye out for hard drives here: http://www.techbargains.com/

There was a deal recently (at Newegg, no less) for 250GB for $40.
