View Full Version : Book It: Goldberg Post-Streak

After Goldberg's streak was over, he was a pretty mediocre character who floated around and didn't really do anything really of note. He was never really the same.

So, with that in mind, how would you have booked Goldberg post-streak? This includes the streak breaking itself, if you'd choose to change it to another match or another scenario. Doesn't need to be a long-winded post, but just a general idea of how to keep him as huge as he was.

Was it even possible to keep him as hot and as over as he was during the streak? Or was he truly a one-trick pony who, once he lost the streak, he was destined never to really get that spark back?

To be honest, I would have enjoyed it more if he had.

That's what I would have gone with. I don't know if you guys saw how Brock reacted immediately after he beat Frank Mir in their re-match, but I'd have Goldberg adopt a character like that. Kind of psychotic (in a non cartoonish way), hell bent on winning, not giving a fuck if he's liked by the fans, talking shit to his opponents after he's won the match and beaten the hell out of them etc.... I think that would have given him his spark back quick.

Have him go after the nWo one by one until kind of like Sting used to except in a more conventional manner (go to the ring, punch, spear, jackhammer). Do this until the nWo is completely wiped out forever (combination of Goldberg injuries and in-fighting after they lose the championship back to Goldberg).

I didn't watch WCW then but from what I've heard the hand injury and the heel turn really slowed things down. Also it looks like they had him start a new streak. I wouldn't do that because it was already done. At this point he should only be wrestling top guys, not doing squash matches. We know Goldberg isn't going to get fired so why even do it?

Kevin Nash once stated in an interview that the original plan (before Goldberg punched that window and put himself out for 6 months) after Starrcade was for Goldberg to go through each member of the nWo on PPV matches one-by-one in his year long journey to get his title shot against Hogan at Starrcade, which he would win. This started with Goldberg facing Scott Hall at Souled Out in that ladder match.

I guess, all things considered, that this was the best way to go forward. Goldberg was still extremely hot after the initial loss - it was the fact that he got hurt so soon after the first loss that caused him to lose so much steam. Main event matches against Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner, maybe more with Hall or with a heel DDP or with a returning Sting could've made for some good TV leading up to an epic Goldberg/Hogan rematch at Starrcade.

I also like the idea others have stated about turning Goldberg into an even more vicious, angry character - like a Brock Lesnar/Stone Cold hybrid of sorts. I think it's something Goldberg could've pulled off with the right direction, but that nobody in WCW ever had that kind of mentality.

I'd book Goldberg like how WWE booked Diesel in late 95-96 basically a pissed of face with heel tendencies (well a bad ass face) then fight through the nWo and regain the belt.

Reminds me too much like Kanyon diamond cuttering everyone.

Yeah, Goldberg becoming an angry pissed off monster could have worked. Have him decimate the security that escorted him to the ring all the time. Become obsessed with winning.

Mostly smash everybody, but able to suffer losses (which just made him angrier and made him train harder).

DDP should have taken the victory at Halloween Havoc when he countered the Jackhammer. Would have been a surprise/upset but DDP had a big enough fan base to pull it off. A back and fourth feud would ensue. The 2 nWo factions would have kept at each others throats eventually falling apart and allowing certain individuals to chase the title.

Well some things they did made a lot of sense... So lets say Starcade happened they way it did, all of the interference the tazer etc...

Nash is on Nitro and is going to have a match with Hogan. Hogan expects him to lay down at the start of the match and Nash can't do it. Hogan keeps motioning him to lay down, and tries to collar and elbow him to the ground but Nash won't have it. After a short violent shuffle not involved wrestling moves or even punches, more just pushing and shoving Nash walks off the set of Nitro. The camera follows him to the back where he encounters Bill Goldberg, they share an intense eyelock and Nash walks off. Goldberg sprints to the ring where Hogan is walking up the ramp.

They meet in the middle, Hogan backing to the ring while Goldberg slowly stalks him. Hogan is begging for him to just turn around and go. When they finally get into the ring. Hogan is on his knees begging Goldberg to leave, then out of nowhere he hits a low blow and Goldberg and Bill topples over. Hogan hits the ropes and crashes down with a huge leg drop, and another. The NWO comes out and tears into Goldberg, hitting all of their big moves (ala NXT). During the beatdown Hogan is cutting a promo on Goldberg, all of his jealousy and rage over Goldberg's success comes out, and we see real hate from Hogan.

Next week Nash doesn't show up to Nitro. And Goldberg is in the hospital. Hogan continues the rant about how he has always been the best and there will never be anybody to match him, not Goldberg, not Nash, not Flair, not anybody. He calls out Eric Bischoff and demands that the WCW World Title be vacated and given to him.

Bisch says he can't do that but what he can do is this... at Souled Out, Hogan will challenge Nash for the WCW Title, if Nash no shows he forfeits the title to Hogan. Hogan says, "well what about our little problem in Goldberg, Brother?" Eric says, "Scott Hall has volunteered to take care of that problem for us."

So at Souled out Nash shows up to the main event in street clothes with the title. He walks into the ring and has a staredown with Hogan and then blasts him in the face with the title and stars to walk off. Goldberg's music hits and he comes out (after defeating Hall) Nash motions to Goldberg to take Hogan, but Goldberg can't trust anybody so he smashes Nash with a spear. And the Jackhammers Hogan. He pins him the ref counts to three and Goldberg holds up the WCW Title at the end of the PPV.

The next nigh Eric says that decision does not stand and the title has been vacated. He makes a world title tournament for Superbrawl with 8 members of the NWO, curiously leaving out contenders Nash and Goldberg.

Hogan wins the tournament and Nash and Goldberg are a semi team to take out Hogan and the NWO. After running through member after member of NWO all year at Halloween Havoc Goldberg gets his shot at Hogan. And he kills him, and is the new WCW Champion.

Then at Starcade it would be a rematch Goldberg/Nash for Title in a cage to keep out any possible interference.

Have Goldberg destroy every wrestler until he faces Hogan to win back the belt.

When I had him going over all the members of the nWo I don't think I would have him go over clean in every match. In order to play up the angry monster angle he would take some DQ's for failing to listen to the ref or using a weapon. Wouldn't do that on PPV though.

I'd go with the monster angle as well. He already had the look and feel for it. I think spearing people backstage, as they came down the ramp, etc. - it would have been kick ass.
