Game prep, locker room management, in-game strategy and so on...which sport's coach matter most to the success of the team?

As for side conversation, in which sport do you feel coaching matter least?

Football they do. I don't know enough about futbol to say.

Basketball only like 10 coaches ever matter so that's a no. Hockey coaches get fired every 2 weeks. So they don't matter. Baseball mangers are pretty meaningless for strategy purposes.

"American" Football by far.... and it's not really the coaches, but the guys that photograph/memorize/relay the other teams plays/schemes/coverages to their superiors, with the superiros taking all the credit.....

Basketball and American football are more tactical, therefore more coach-driven than the others.

So your point is that they also had talented supporting casts? If the point is that there were piece of shit headcases on the teams then you're barking up the wrong tree, since every team has that. Especially in the NBA.

Basketball is too much of a plug and play sport. Yeah it takes strategy but you can just put 5 talented guys out there and have a decent amount of success.

Phil Jackson, is a bad example because he is one of the very few Coaches that actually matter.

Basketball coaches mostly still don't matter.

I know absolutely jack shit about basketball when it comes to tactics etc but is Phil Jackson not mentioned here/'matter' strictly because he wound up with Jordan, Rodman, Pippen etc then Kobe and Shaq etc? What I mean is wouldn't any coach that was given the Bulls job when he was have been successful? Which led to the Lakers with Kobe and Shaq aka being in the same position when he walked into the Bulls? Is he not amazingly lucky basically?

Football easily, I mean how many games has Andy Reid lost for the Eagles over his career?

American Football by far. The amount of plays, strategy, motivation that goes into a game is ridiculous. Combine that with the season being so short and every game so vital and it's hands down American Football.

Baseball is the least without a doubt.

And Juan, winning cures all problems. Ask Artest this year.

It's not even debatable as far as I'm concerned. American Football by a country fucking mile. Anyone who says otherwise clearly doesn't understand American Football. It's that simple.

EDIT - looks like Juan and Mofo have a very limited knowledge of what American football entails.

I said "American" football just on default (hockey is a VERY close 2nd)

but there are SO many coaches on any NFL/NCAA team that the head coach usually has a limited role come game time. remember, each position has is own coach. then you have all the coordinators that call plays and then each coach has an assistant and so on and so on.

I rarely watch it, so yeah, great observation.

Hockey is least.

Definitely American Football. It is a sport where every play is a rehearsed, COACHED scenario. Every other sport has a free flow factor, football has almost no free flow.

Outside of this list for coaches that matter the least.... curling.
