I like RR but I think he should be The Flash and not Deadpool or Green Lantern.

Think it looks good. And I never gave a shit about GL.

It's gonna be cheesy.. He builds a hot wheels ramp to divert a helicopter from crashing into a party..

What? I feel you on GL, but guy was practically born to play deadpool.

Costume looks terrible, btw.

Costumes were all CG..

I know. That's why it looks terrible. Look's almost fan made.

We wrapped like two months ago and it's not supposed to be out til next summer.. I'm sure the post production isn't near done yet..

Yea the costume is definitely awful.

As for how the movie itself looks, I dunno. It looks pretty crappy in most places.
The parts where he is getting the ring from the other Lantern looked kinda cool, but the rest was really cheesy.
I get a really bad vibe, but it's really hard to tell. That's how they edit all these trailers to be, for the most part. The trailers for the first Iron Man gave a similar vibe, and look how that turned out.
Then again, the trailers for the Fantastic Four and Ghost Rider movies were similar too.

We'll see.

Yea, but this is an official trailer. These are more than likely finished shots. They don't want to be putting uncompleted work out there under the microscope of comic fans, and find themselves behind the 8-ball in the court of public opinion. At least not when they can help it.
You are right that the effects may not be completed, but the ones in this trailer are.

I'm just curious what they were thinking making him wear an all CGI costume. Just seems like something that should have been used during action sequences and transformations, and to enhance the glow of the costume.
But the mask, and the whole thing while he's just standing there? Why?

Kris P Lettus
11-16-2010, 11:16 PM
He had on Something like a Lycra body suit with black and white reference points and similar marks painted on his face.. Dunno why they did it like that.. Alot of blue screen work throughout the whole show..

Jeritron
11-16-2010, 11:19 PM
They do it like that to capture his motions in the computer. The reference dots are connected in the computer to create a wire frame and animate. Mo-cap.

Kris P Lettus
11-16-2010, 11:31 PM
Yeah I know they are reference points, I was saying i dont know why they did it the whole show instead of just having him in costume..

Jeritron
11-16-2010, 11:36 PM
Well they would probably say because of the things the costume does, but it seems like overuse to me. Either way I just don't think it looks good.
Maybe it's more cost effective too.

Jeritron
11-16-2010, 11:39 PM
Spider-Man and Iron Man were both CGI during action scenes, but the actor donned a real suit for close ups and shots where there wasn't a lot of movement.

The only time CGI looks awful is when it's used in places it doesn't need to be.

I like the costume and even though it is just a 2 minute trailer and it is a bit early to judge..I thought this was all about comics meets star wars or some shit? I was expecting more crap in the stars and less crap at good ol' boring earth.

Lock Jaw
11-16-2010, 11:46 PM
Yeah... generally everything that was a special effect or makeup looked kinda cheesy in that trailer.

Also, still having trouble picturing Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. Seems so much more like Kyle Rayner.

That's how comic movies tend to work now though, with some exceptions. I think the success of Spidey and Iron Man has lead a lot of comic movies to mimic that style, even though it doesn't fit every character.
It seems like they're doing the same thing with Thor. He's going to be trying to fit into modern society and it will likely be full of jokes, and a love interest. And here we'll see Green Lantern in similar situations.

Fans may expect an ancient war epic from Thor, or a space opera from Green Lantern, but they're probably not going to get it. Unfortunately I think a lot of studios have settled on what a comic movie should be, regardless of the character.
That's why Nolan's Batman movies are great. They bypass that and go for being serious crime dramas, like they should.
Hopefully Captain America resembles a serialized WW2 adventure.

Well Thor actually started out taking place mostly on Earth, so it makes sense the first movie would too. Maybe in a sequel we'll see an epic battle for asgard against Surtur or something.

He seems perfect for Deadpool.

Could live without the GL role though. Trailer looks fairly standard. Not horribly excited, but it works I guess.

That list is stupid except for 2 of them. The points about how those movies all make the chicks seem the same is true, and same with doing the whole playboy turned responsible gimmick from Iron Man.
Those are both obviously lifted from the success of Iron Man, I think. That's not hard to recognize. I think I even commented on that earlier in this thread.

But Cracked, as usual, is making huge stretches to act like they have shit figured out to a tee. It's ridiculous.
Like an over-the-shoulder shot of a crash site. That's because over the shoulder shots are used to communicate the image of a character discovering something in basically every film.
Or saying a character in a wheelchair is a ripoff of Stryker's kid from X-Men? Come on.

And answering the call of duty isn't a rehashed storyline in superhero movies. It's just a staple of superhero storytelling.
It's like saying characters seeking revenge in westerns or kung fu movies is a ripoff.

And calling them out for having a shot of the superhero flying majestically? Lol. Apparently the guy has never opened up a comic book.

It seems like a weird retelling of the X-Men origin. Like it's all there: adolescent Xavier and Magneto and the events that shape their lives, the 60s era backdrop to match the time the origin story was printed, current era characters like Angel Salvador appearing next to originals like Beast and 70s/80s additions like Banshee and Havok. It's like on paper it's a bad idea, but the execution is really good.

Plus that score... Lara isn't kidding, it's pretty memorable.
