Got a feeling this is to have Del Rio outlast Rey in terms of record time even if he doesn't win.

Hoping the extra 10 guys are shocks, but probably not.

I'm all for this, but I'm wondering how the intervals will be handled.

Evil Vito

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah if they bump the intervals down to 60 seconds, the change wasn't worth it. Gotta be at least 90.</font>

Xero
01-17-2011, 02:25 PM
At 90 seconds it makes it exactly an hour for everyone to come out (obviously not taking the longer intervals into account, which there always are). Best case scenario, they keep that rapid-fire pace while extending the match itself. And that's awesome.

01-17-2011, 02:26 PM
The article says there will be entrants every 90 seconds. I'm quite excited by this, despite the fact it won't make too much of a difference overall. I think anyway.

"Every 90 seconds, one of 40 elite ring warriors with randomly drawn Rumble entry numbers joins the fray. "

This is officially epic.

Very excited about this. Especially the prospect of more nostalgia entrants.

What the fuck???

So in this case, nobody should be left off the RR card unless they're hurt. Maybe they're going to let some of the NXT guys into the RR?

I'm all for this, especially if they do a spot where like 25 people are in there at once or something.

Also Kane's record for eliminations will probz be surpassed.

Good shit regardless.

PUT THE TITLE ON THE LINE AND THAT WILL BE EPIC

Why not just put every title on the line? Depending on how you finish, determines which title you get. 6th and 5th=tag champs, 4th=US champ, 3rd=IC champ, 2nd=WHC, and the last man standing gets the WWE titles, and both the Bella twins.

I remember the very first Royal Rumble had 20, and a year later, it went up to 30. And now, they move it up to 40. That's a pretty good change of pace.

Rammsteinmad
01-17-2011, 04:43 PM
I agree with Supreme, I don't think this is really a great idea. Usually in a 30-man Royal Rumble there are at least 20 participants that you KNOW are not going to win. Now it's going to be 30 participants.

I'm all for nostalgia and stuff, but if we suddenly get ten guest appearances (when you know damn well they won't win the thing), the nostalgia kind of wears off and ruins the 'unpredictablilty' of the match.

Plus, if it ends up being the usual legends such as Sgt. Slaughter, Roddy Piper etc, then I really couldn't care less.

“If having 40 men in the Royal Rumble match helps sell ppvs, then its a really good idea. 40 sounds good to me. Makes the main event bigger. Watch what I say, the 40 man royal rumble match will be over analyzed by many. Gives 10 more paydays & adds ‘biggest ever’ mkt’ing hook”.

WWE probably realizes the undercard is going to be bad to make the change this quickly.

<font color=goldenrod>WWE.com has confirmed the following participants:

Alberto Del Rio
CM Punk
Cody Rhodes
Daniel Bryan
Darren Young
David Hart Smith
David Otunga
Husky Harris
John Cena
John Morrison
Mark Henry
Michael McGillicutty
Primo
R-Truth
Rey Mysterio
Sheamus
Ted DiBiase
Tyson Kidd
William Regal
Yoshi Tatsu
Zack Ryder

That's 21 participants already. On the Raw side I figure Mason Ryan will be added. Jerry Lawler is a safe bet. Triple H will certainly be a mystery guy, The Great Khali could also return. Santino & Kozlov not being announced yet might mean they get assigned to a tag title match, I guess against The Usos yet again so figure neither of those 4 get in.

Now in terms of SmackDown "locks" I'd say: Beth Phoenix, Big Show, Chris Masters, Drew McIntyre, Ezekiel Jackson, Heath Slater, Jack Swagger, Justin Gabriel, Kane, Kofi Kingston, and Wade Barrett

That leaves Chavo Guerrero, Curt Hawkins, JTG, Trent Barreta, and Tyler Reks - I'd guess JTG and Trent are the two most likely to sneak in out of that group, leaving about 3-4 spots total for COMPLETE mystery entrants.</font>

ThePhantom

I am not a fan of this expansion to 40 superstars, and here is why;

1) I am a traditionalist, and IMO if it isn't broken, don't fix it.

2) In reality, there are only about 5 guys that could realistically win this thing. Adding more guys to it, or women (Awesome Kong :shifty:) only results in faster eliminations and the feeling "Wait, is this guy still in the WWE! I haven't seen him in a very long time!)

3) All the numbers they said during the Royal Rumble promo this past week on Raw will virtually mean nothing. Mysterio's record for the longest time in the ring will undoubtedly be broken, however, imo, it should still stand as there was only 30 guys participating. Also, this gives an individual the opportunity to eliminate more than Kane (I forget the number, something tells me 11.)

The only way this is going to please me is if they bring in some surprise entrants and not just filler guys such as Tatsui, David Hart-Smith, ect. Because if that is the case, why even do the upgrade to 40? I think that less is more, and Vince should have went with that.

Emperor Smeat
01-19-2011, 06:24 PM
I have a feeling they will break at least 2 records being the most eliminations and most eliminations by a woman assuming Kong enters and takes out 2 people. Only other ones possible would be longest time, #40 wins, and most career eliminations.

Most eliminations would create the quick push needed for a "monster" style wrestler like Big Zeke or the new guy CM Punk has for Nexus.

Xero
01-19-2011, 06:54 PM
If they do have someone break the most eliminations record, have them enter really early, break the record and immediately have Kane's number hit (in the 30s) and have them hype it to shit. Then either have Kane eliminate them or have them eliminate Kane.

Fox
01-19-2011, 09:04 PM
They should make it a 60-Man Royal Rumble with two entry ways and two rings, have two guys come out at a time and then when it gets down to the final four they fight it out in one ring.

Seriously though, I think this is a cool idea. Change can be a good thing. But really it probably just means more people for Cena and Triple H to throw out, plus the ability to let all Nexus members into the match.

Xero
01-19-2011, 09:07 PM
I want to see someone, if not WWE some indy production with a good budget for rigging, do a Battle Royal with two rings, but the second ring is above the first. Each number would randomly have either "top" or "bottom" associated with it.

Fox
01-19-2011, 09:08 PM
Here's what I'd like to see happen:

It gets down to the end and you have Wade Barrett's Nexus, CM Punk's Nexus, Triple H and John Cena.

The Nexus factions team up again and work together to beat down HHH and Cena to bloody pulps. They throw them over the top rope, then all the Nexus members eliminate themselves except for Barrett and Punk. Barrett and Punk step over the top rope and jump to the floor together at the same time.

Barrett gets #1 contendership for the World Title on Smackdown and CM Punk gets #1 contendership for the WWE Title on RAW. This would lead to CM Punk vs. John Cena (who wins the title at EC) and Wade Barrett losing his #1 contendership at EC to maybe Alberto Del Rio after Undertaker comes in and whips Barrett's ass, costing him his match, setting up Taker versus Barrett and Del Rio vs. Edge vs. Rey Mysterio for the World Title at WrestleMania.

Fox

Bah gawd two story ring! That's actually kind of a cool idea, though I'm not sure how well people in the higher seats would be able to see the lower ring. Also, getting thrown over the top rope from the top ring would probably lead to some pretty serious injuries... unless they surrounded the ring with big bouncy mats or tables or something.

You know what? They never sell out Mania, so they wouldn't be losing anything. They should do a Mania with a proper War Games match with two rings.

If they do War Games or World War 3 I would think it would be its own PPV, probably having a Raw v. Smackdown theme rather than just a match that happens to take place at Mania. Bragging Rights would be a proper venue for this as they already have the feud built in.
