JERRY LAWLER has said his close friend and former commentary partner Jim Ross WILL return to WWE television.

The King - who announces WWE's Raw show - says that the decision to remove JR from TV was mainly due to health issues and that his pal will be back.

Lawler told Fighting Spirit Magazine: "JR and I had some tremendous chemistry, but I don't think you've seen the last of that. I think JR will be back on the air in some capacity. He's too good not to utilise. A lot of people don't realise what the situation is with him. He had a couple - I guess three now - real serious bouts of Bell's Palsy, which is very similar in effects to a stroke. They don't really know, but they think the attacks are brought on by stress. Nobody takes their job more seriously than good old JR.

The reason Vince has kept him off TV all this time is because he's concerned with his health. He's worried that if he puts him back out there regularly, he'll have another Bell's Palsy attack."

Lawler himself has been getting away from the commentary desk of late - wrestling a series of bouts with WWE champion The Miz, including a TLC contest that won rave reviews.

He added: "A lot of people are amazed that I can just go in the ring and have good matches. But the truth of the matter is that I've never stopped. Although I do the commentary on Monday nights, I've always wrestled - at least once, usually twice, every single week throughout my time with WWE. I thought the matches, especially the TLC match with The Miz, were good. I know that after the match was over, when I came back to the Gorilla Position, everybody standing there gave me a standing ovation. Vince came over and hugged me and said: 'Man-oh-man, what a great match!'

Lawler failed to beat Miz, partly due to continual interference from current commentary partner Michael Cole. King and Cole now look set to settle the score at WrestleMania which, amazingly giving his legendary career, will be King's FIRST ever match on the biggest show of them all.

He revealed: "I've been with WWE for 17 years and that's something I've never achieved. I remember in 2007, when Vince came to me and said they were going to induct me into the Hall of Fame, I said that I didn't want to. He said: 'What do you mean, you don't want to?'

I replied: 'Most people feel like your career is over when you go into the Hall of Fame, like in baseball or football or something. Also, I've never done that much here, Vince. I've never won a title, I've never even wrestled on a WrestleMania.'

He said: 'What? You've never wrestled on a Wrestlemania in all the years you've been here? That's a tragedy. We've got to fix that next year.'

That was his mindset then, but things get put on the backburner. First 2008 came and I didn't get a match, then 2009 came and I didn't get a match, then 2010.

But I must say that there's never really been a point in time in those years when I've been involved as much as I have been as of late. So if there ever was a time for it to happen, I think this would be the most advantageous.

And would I love to have a WrestleMania match? Oh boy, yes. Other than getting inducted into the Hall of Fame, that would maybe be the highlight of my career to finally get to perform there."

So, who else here besides me would like JR to be one of the commentators @ Mania?

I've been saying it'd happen for months now. Noone listens to me.

I'd markout if JBL came out to announce with JR.

I predict Jerry Lawler/Jim Ross vs Alex Riley/Michael Cole. It will be the opening or 2nd match, and the winners get to announce the rest of the show after they get cleaned up in the back. (Have Booker, Matthews, and Striker announce the first few matches. Then, they air a promo or what have you then it fades to King/JR at the booth.)

Also, WrestleMania XXVII will feature the first ever globally-broadcasted barbecue sauce enema.

I think it's more likely that Lawler/Cole is the cool-down match between the title matches. Lawler wins it clean (maybe with the piledriver for an additional mark-out moment), then brings out JR to help call the main event and possibly the UT/HHH match. Not sure if JR can handle an entire 4-hour broadcast tbh

With them not making the booth until the 4th or 5th match, it'd only be the last 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Edit: I also think/hope Josh Matthews would stay in the booth. He has consistently been a good commentary guy dating back to Velocity. I'm slightly biased as I wanted him to win WWF Tough Enough (Season 1).

James Steele is starting to switch his fanbase from Triple H to Josh Matthews as he knows that Triple H's wrestling career will come to and end at Wrestlemania.

Triple H is NOT retiring at WrestleMania. Triple H will at least push through to WrestleMania XXX.

Awful news....

JR was terrible for at least 5 yrs before he got replaced.

He was always on his game for WrestleMania and PPVs. He adds emotion and such into his announcing that Cole or anybody currently in WWE can't come close to doing.

Dunno...

I havent got any real passion to hear the corny JR/King commentary again. Plus it doesnt really make sense when WWE already have good young announcers like Striker & Matthews as well.

I completely agree with this. Although I am not a fan of Jim Ross' latent homosexuality, the passion and emotion that he brings to announce table is simply unmatched. James Steele is correct - When the chips are down and you've got a big time PPV going on, JR is the guy you want out there. Plain and simple.

Jim Ross on his worst day is better than Michael Cole.

JR brings what I usually miss in commentary on every sport (except for the commentators on one of the channels who air NFL over here in DK) - passion!

When someone does a big move - sure the others will go "What a massive superplex - that was absolutely crazy". JR will be all like "Bah GAWD - DID YOU SEE THAT! He hurts himself, baaaah aaahh he hurt himself" - you know truly passionate.

As for NFL commentary (over here at least) it's the same with big hits or massive plays. Most are like "Wow that was a great play/big hit" - a few are "OMG Look at that massive hit. That was absolutely insane OMG OMG OMG!" - you know fired up.

All in all - yes I would like to see JR back, but not if it's too risky for his health.

-EDIT- sports commentary in general for the things I watch have become increasingly dispassionate. (And also - I realise wrestling isn't a sport as such, but the commentary styles are mostly similar)

That actually sounds pretty funny. "BAH GAWD ALMIGHTY, HE HITS HER WITH SOME POWERFUL, RAPID PENETRATION"

JR called JTG 'Shawn Michaels' in a match by mistake. See that would be ok, but Shawn Michaels wasnt even in that match.

That is not better than Cole.
