Do you think they would let some noob start winning matches at mainia and build up his own streak?

Supreme Olajuwon
06-10-2011, 12:07 PM
Dunno seems unlikely. Cause like the first half of Taker's streak wasn't on purpose. It was just luck that they never booked him to lose. Really can't see them planning an angle that would take years and years to pull off.

The closest thing I could see to the streak is how many WM's Cena main events.

Miz is the only one currently that is undefeated at WM but it probably won't last and I don't think anyone else should surpass really it's what makes Taker unique afterall.

Someone who is either new or already undefeated at WM should beat Taker at WM and then his "powers" could be magically given to that person and thus they will end up with a streak.

It's not going to happen unless WWE puts serious thought into it. I don't think this could happen by accident again, because they don't tend to book people THAT strong now for four years, let alone twenty.

And really, it's not a good thing to have for Mania. As much as I love Taker and the Streak, it just so happens that this happened on accident and they ran with it. But probably around the Henry feud it was getting to the point that it was overly obvious that Taker was ALWAYS going to win. It takes out A LOT from the matches when you know a year in advance, without knowing the opponent, that Wrestler X is going over at PPV Y.

Emperor Smeat
06-10-2011, 05:35 PM
I doubt it because even Taker's streak was ignored until someone in the WWE both realized Taker had a good undefeated streak without nobody really noticing and hyping the streak could be a new way to generate money for Wrestlemania.

Edge also had a smaller undefeated streak but just like Undertaker's, the WWE didn't pay attention and never tried a streak vs streak match until after Edge lost a match at Mania.

The biggest problem is the WWE would need to invest a lot in a young wrestler which could end up as a new Taker or worst case scenario as a new Lesnar if pushed too much. Almost all of the current big name wrestlers have at least 1 loss at Mania while the others are still untested to be worthy of the huge investment the WWE would have to give to a new streak.

Xero
06-10-2011, 05:43 PM
Well, really, they don't HAVE to invest into it unless they have an end game. And an end game of 5, 10, or in Taker's case 20 years is virtually impossible to plan. For the first few years they can just have them go over in a realistic matter. They don't need a mega push at all. Once it's pretty obvious that the guy isn't going anywhere (say at 5-10 years) then you can start pushing the streak.

I guess with putting more thought into this, I could see it happening and it can be done realistically. I don't know if it'd work, but it can be done. But they'd have to go into it at first with a mindset of it being a possibility down the road but not set in stone by a long shot.

Really, there's a bigger chance of it happening by mistake, though again, I think that's unlikely at best.

WWE has trouble doing a two month storyline, so the chances of them doing another streak is very doubtfull. More so when you consider that Undertaker's streak was only booked as a thing over the past couple of years

Mr. Nerfect

I could see it happening. At some point, the WWE will probably decide to do an angle where some guy challenges The Undertaker's streak, not directly, but every year at WrestleMania -- one win at a time. Hell, it could even be a guy like Swagger or The Miz, neither of whom have lost at a WrestleMania (on the main card, anyway).

On the topic of WrestleMania victories, though, if you count Santina Marella and Santino as the same person (they did show them as being supposedly separate entities, but that can just be some of Marella's antics), then would Marella have technically beaten more people at WrestleMania than anyone in the WWE? He won a 25-Diva Battle Royal or something, didn't he? Add that to the four members of The Corre he beat, and he'd be at 28 people.

The Undertaker's streak was apparently close to ending at WrestleMania 22 in 2006.

Kurt Angle said in an interview with The Sun that The Undertaker wanted him to be the one to end the streak and The Undertaker went and pitched the idea to Vince McMahon.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/wrestling/3630830/Kurt-Angle-reveals-all-on-Sun-Wrestlings-WrestleCast.html

So The Undertaker could have been 13-1 after WrestleMania 22 if the match did go ahead.
