Stealing Show Off's idea for my list of favorite matches in wrestling history. I figured this could start more of a discussion too in that there are so many more options for matches than wrestlers and some of these matches may even be new to some people. Also, there are no Sheamus matches ahead of any Shawn Michaels matches, hopefully making things less "angry".

And without further adieu...

1. Ricky Steamboat vs Ric Flair (NWA World Title Match, WrestleWar '89, 5/7/89)
2. Shawn Michaels vs Triple H (Street Fight, SummerSlam, 8/25/02)

Shelton Benjamin vs. Triple H (WWE Raw, 3/29/04)

I remember being uncharacteristically pumped during this match as was the crowd. An awesome TV match that should have made Shelton a star and probably the biggest upset in wrestling since 1-2-3 Kid beat Razor Ramon.

Seems like an interesting thread, whatever happened to TSO's one? Feels like I haven't seen it in a while.

Also, how the fuck do you manage to decide your top 100 matches? I would struggle to pick ten.

Sting vs Ric Flair (NWA World Heavyweight Title Match, Great American Bash, 7/7/90)

Sting's first NWA World Title win. A great atmosphere and I loved the sense of desperation from Flair throughout.

I'm thinking a few a day. At whatever pace seems fitting and works. One a day seems pretty sluggish.

The Steiner Brothers vs Bret and Owen Hart (WWF Wrestlefest '94, 1/11/94)

The WWF used to love putting out amazing matches that are hard to find. Ric Flair has said his best WWF match was an Iron Man match against Bret Hart at a house show. This one was at least released on video back in the day. I remember having this Wrestlefest VHS when I was a kid and watching this match constantly. I just rediscovered it a couple years ago. The lack of importance and the finish hurt it but easily one of the best pure tag team wrestling matches of the 90's for me.

I remember really enjoying matches. And then I go back and watch them to remind me why I really enjoyed them. With the exception of matches like Shane vs Vince from WM X-7 or the Foley-Taker HIAC where I can always remember exactly why I liked them for obvious reason.

Chris Benoit vs Bret Hart (WCW Nitro, 10/4/99)

I was never that big of a Benoit nor was I a big WCW fan at this time but this one finds it's way on the list for obvious reasons. I could go without Schiavonne sounding like he's on the verge of suicide all match but a great technical wrestling match with a place in history.

The Rock 'n' Roll Express vs The Midnight Express (NWA WrestleWar, 2/25/90)

This was THE tag team feud when I was a kid. I remember seeing multiple great matches with these guys but this one sticks out in my mind as the best especially after going back and watching it again recently. Fast paced, a lot of tags as you'd expect and Cornette's picking a fight with Nick Patrick early on is GOLDEN. Such a fun match.

Triple H vs Chris Jericho (Hell in a Cell Match, WWE Judgment Day, 5/19/02)

The outcome was predictable but it worked. A great, brutal Hell in a Cell match that was a fitting way to capped off the feud spectacularly. It seems like this match has been forgotten over time, probably because it's been lost in the shuffle in the HIAC and other gimmick matches that are entirely too common place or maybe because it didn't have that huge memorable Hell in a Cell moment that I think people were expecting at the time but I thought it was still an awesome brawl. Even by Hell in a Cell standards.

I definitely think this match is better than their WM 18 match. I kind of wish this match ended up being the Wrestlemania 18 main event. I did like that match but after The Rock vs. Hollywood Hogan match it just didn't scream main event to me.

I'm gonna stay out of indy stuff mainly because, as I've seen good technical matches from ROH, New Japan, etc. I can't really put them in the same ballpark as matches where I have investment in characters and such. The internet age giving me access to more matches doesn't really change my personal view of the history of wrestling so Punk-Joe ROH matches for example aren't really gonna do as much for me outside "Hey, that was a great match... moving on now..."

Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat (WCW World Title Match, WCW Saturday Night, 5/14/94)

Another forgotten match that was after their more well-known feud and given away on free TV. This was to decide the world champion after their Spring Stampede match that ended in a double pin. Not on par with their classic bouts in the late 80's but definitely my favorite WCW Saturday Night match of all time.

Trish Stratus vs Mickie James (WWE Women's Title Match, WrestleMania 22, 4/2/06)

This isn't gonna make any lists of technical masterpieces but I LOVED this match. I'm as critical as anyone of women's wrestling but I have a lot of reasons for including this one on my list. First, the build to this match was phenomenal. One of my favorite storylines of all time. The payoff here was everything I could have hoped for as well. Mickie played the psycho bitch and Trish played the angry, "I'm tired of your psycho bitch B.S." roles SO well even during the match. It's not often you see a match encompass the built in characters within it this well. I loved it. And of course, Mickie's "lick" at the end was awesome. I feel like I could even justify this being higher if not for the botch at the end. (Though I did like how Mickie worked it out by just performing another of Trish's moves instead so they could still do the "stealing Trish's move" angle without having to set up for Stratusfaction again.) On top of all that, awesome storyline and such aside, I think this stands out as the best women's match I've ever seen. So extra credit for that.

Shawn Michaels vs Owen Hart (In Your House 6, 2/18/96)

Another match that's been forgotten about over time it seems. A proper feud between these two could have been a classic. Unfortunately most of it just consisted of Owen bragging about putting Shawn out while he was away until Shawn came back and then it was a straight shot to the world title and the culmination of the Owen feud was kinda just quickly tossed into this match between the rumble and WM XII. Not the best match of either man's career at all but still a great wrestling match.

Scotty 2 Hotty vs Dean Malenko (WWF Lightheavyweight Title Match, WWF Backlash, 4/30/00)

It never got the credit it deserved but this match was awesome. Especially with it being worked in more of a WWF style than what was the norm with guys like Michinoku during this period. Great psychology. This came out of nowhere to be maybe the best cruiserweight match the company ever put on.

CM Punk vs Shelton Benjamin vs Chris Jericho vs MVP vs Carlito vs Mr. Kennedy vs John Morrison (Money in the Bank Ladder Match, WrestleMania XXIV, 3/30/08)

My favorite Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania. There were the usual amazing and brutal spots, but mainly this featured 8 of my favorite wrestlers at the time. Literally any of them could have won it and I would have been ecstatic. And they all had something to offer in their own unique styles.

John Cena vs Rob Van Dam (WWE Title Match, ECW One Night Stand, 6/11/06)

This was such an intriguing match. Watching Cena try to do some "innovative" stuff to try to impress the hostile ECW crowd only for them to just hate him more because of it was great. It was a rare opportunity to watch THE two polar opposites of professional wrestling eras clash. Like Cena had stepped into a time machine. It was awesome. I found the match itself to be much better than most "it's all about the crowd" matches too. The storyline going into it along with the thought of "there's no way Cena can lose... but if he wins, he might not make it out alive..." was strikingly similar to another recent match.

The Undertaker vs Edge (WWE World Heavyweight Title Match, WrestleMania XXIV, 3/30/08)

It's sad because I felt this match could have been built better. But even with the knowledge that Taker was pretty much a given to win, I can't blame the two of them. They put on a phenomenal match that managed to justify it's main event status despite a more hyped Raw title match and a classic earlier in the night.. Something most felt Triple H and Chris Jericho couldn't do six years earlier.

Dean Malenko vs Eddie Guerrero (2 out of 3 Falls Match, ECW Arena, 8/26/95)

Two of the best in-ring psychologists (?) of all time. I discovered this match years after it happened and I'm so glad I did. It counters my "needing to know the build-up" factor because of what it was. While a cheap finish might hurt my view of a match, this was fitting. It wasn't about who won or lost. It was a last hurrah for both men before leaving for WCW and it was an amazing wreslting match. So much fun to watch and the crowd let them know it.

Shawn Michaels vs Vader (WWF Title Match, SummerSlam, 8/18/96)

As a huge Shawn Michaels mark at the time, this was the first match during his title reign where I was genuinely worried going in. His loss the month before at IYH in a 6 man tag was a HUGE deal. He just didn't lose back then. The restarts were great and seeing HBK work a match with a big guy (albeit one of the best ever) was a great change of pace for him. If this was any indication, these two could have had an amazing feud over a longer period of time.

The Rock vs Mankind (WWF Title I Quit Match, WWF Royal Rumble, 1/24/99)

It wasn't the "war" that one would expect in an I Quit match because of the one-sidedness. In fact it was barely a match and much more of just a flat out beat down. It would be higher if the payoff was a little more satisfying. All that work to play a tape recording knocks it down a little for me. But it's one of the all time greatest wrestling beat downs and for that, here it is.

Ric Flair vs Lex Luger (NWA World Heavyweight Title Match, Starrcade, 12/26/88)

The first pre-90's match on my list. Awesome build with Luger trying to take down the horsemen after leaving and Flair making Luger look like an all-time great with an awesome match where the crowd was crazy behind Luger. I always loved watching Flair work with guys with different styles. Unfortunately, the internet has decided that this match is too awesome to exist on it. Therefore, enjoy The first 8 minutes of it as it's all I could find. And do love the red trunks vs the green trunks because it makes me feel Christmas-y. That HAS to move it up at least 3 spots.

Edge vs Mick Foley (Hardcore Match, WrestleMania 22, 4/2/06)

Foley gets his WrestleMania moment. Sure it's mainly remembered for the flaming table and that's mainly what gets it up to 82 for me but it was a great Foley-style hardcore, thumbtack filled match. Starting tame with cookie sheets and road signs and then turning brutal. It certainly didn't disappoint me in any aspect.

Shane McMahon vs Vince McMahon (Street Fight, WrestleMania X-7, 4/1/01)

The first half is just a brawl/Shane ass kicking. But the last half is just so fun and chaotic. There was so much going on with this build and it all came to such an awesome culmination in the process of one match. Shane taking over WCW to make it in essence WWF vs WCW was just icing on the cake. Trish's turn on Vince, Foley trying to keep some order, Linda eventually "coming out of it" and finally the great finish of Shane going coast to coast for the first time. This is the epitome to me of a great "sports entertainment" match. It's nothing like you would have seen before. And that's not a bad thing.

After a string of chaotic brawls, back to some great wrestling. Shelton Benjamin with another free tv match where he steals the show against one of the "company guys"... and then immediately continues his mid-card journey. Another match that should have made him a star. Instead it's just remembered fondly as that one match with that awesome finish. One of the greatest matches in Raw history.

Rey Mysterio vs Chris Jericho (WWE Intercontinental Title Match, WWE The Bash, 6/28/09)

Part of Jericho's monumental roll starting a little over a year earlier with an incredible feud with HBK. These two had some great matches during this time. For some reason though, any match where Rey put his mask on the line, you can expect to be a classic. These two had already had several matches and it didn't take away any of the excitement I, or apparently the crowd, had for this one. Jericho reversing Mysterio's springboard into a codebreaker always comes to mind when thinking about this match as well. Such a great spot.

The Hollywood Blondes vs Ric Flair and Arn Anderson (NWA and WCW World Tag Team Title 2 out of 3 Falls Match, Clash of the Champions XXIII, 6/16/93)

Flair's first match back after returning from the WWF. A classic "past vs. future" tag match. Pillman's taunting at the beginning just gives this match that feel too. Watching these guys face off in any combination is just great to see. Another one that gets knocked down a bit because of the shady finish but still one of WCW's best tag matches.

Chris Benoit vs Dean Malenko (WCW Hog Wild, 8/10/96)

One of the few periods where I enjoyed Benoit. This was an awesome technical match that was brought down by an atmosphere and crowd that was pretty much the polar opposite of an ECW crowd. There are good outdoor wrestling atmospheres and there are bad outdoor wrestling atmospheres. This was an abysmal one. It's just a testament to how much of a great technical match this is that it still ends up on my list despite that and despite seeing Benoit killing a child every time I see him.

Kurt Angle vs Eddie Guerrero (WWE Title Match, WrestleMania XX, 3/14/04)

It was overshadowed by the main event and didn't have the hype as Eddie had just won the title the month before and the build was a little rushed and thus it isn't really looked as highly as it should be. Still, it was a fantastic wrestling match and the ending was awesome and fitting for Eddie's loveable cheater gimmick.

A HUGELY overlooked Hell in a Cell match. It didn't have the crazy spots but as far as just awesome brawling goes, it's incredible. JBL vs Eddie Guerrero (WWE Title Match, Judgment Day, 5/16/04)

I LOVED this match! A coming out party for JBL who would go on to be an awesome heel and Eddie showing he could carry the weight of the main event scene without Brock or Angle by putting on an awesome match in a totally different style that we were accustomed to seeing from him. The man was one of the best at adapting to any style. Eddie coming back at the end and still being Eddie as blood poured from his face was great. One of my favorite cheap finishes ever. And I remember being genuinely worried about Eddie. I don't know that I've ever seen someone bleed so much in a match. If I remember correctly, he had to be rushed to the hospital after the match.

John Cena vs JBL (WWE Title I Quit Match, Judgment Day, 5/22/05)

Another JBL title match from Judgment Day and another bloody one too. This feud was just so perfect for both men and it may have been the peak of Cena's overall likability. The match more than made up for their WrestleMania match. Another great, bloody brawl that doesn't get the credit it deserves.

The Rock vs Kurt Angle vs The Undertaker (WWE Undisputed Title Match, WWE Vengeance, 7/21/02)

I am incredibly negative on triple threat matches most of the time. Mainly WWE style. But this was so different. There wasn't as much of the lazy get two guys in the ring at any given moment roles. This match stands out so much in an era of paint by numbers 3-way matches to be possibly the greatest ever. It was almost bizarre to watch how good it was when it happened.

Oh, the list was finished a long time ago. Just gotta write the descriptions and post videos. Which takes longer since, for some odd reason, my computer doesn't start playing videos for like 2 minutes so it takes time to make sure they're the right matches/good quality.

John Cena vs Triple H (WWE Title Match, WrestleMania 22, 4/2/06)

The completion of the passing of the torch to Cena. This was a monumental match for the era and I still remember people really not thinking Triple H was going to job here, much less tap out. A great WrestleMania main event and Cena came out looking like a million bucks.

Shawn Michaels vs Diesel (WWF Title No Holds Barred Match, In Your House 7: Good Friends, Better Enemies, 4/28/96)

Widely considered far and away the best match Kevin Nash ever had, this may have been the most fun I'd had watching a no holds barred match to that point. HBK came off great as the underdog and his comeback at the end is just great wrestling storytelling. Also... THEY USED A LEG!

The Hart Foundation vs Steve Austin, The Legion of Doom, Ken Shamrock and Goldust (WWF In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede, 7/6/97)

One of the most rabid crowds EVER. I was a huge Austin mark back at this time and watching the crowd so insane on the other side just triggered so much emotion. It was like watching your team play of the road in a championship game. Intense. Not to mention the fact that it turned into one of the better 6+ man tag matches ever. The ending was just great too with the Harts getting involved and the crowd just loving every moment of it right to the end. I grow to appreciate this match more over time.

The Undertaker vs Mankind (Hell in a Cell Match, WWF King of the Ring, 6/28/98)

Yeah, it was basically two spots but they are two of the most iconic spots of the era. Talk about putting someone over as crazy and indestructible. One of the more all out entertaining matches of all time when it happened. Not a traditionally good match but a great example of how a wrestling match can be legendary in so many more ways than one.

Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho vs Edge and Christian vs The Dudleyz vs The Hardyz (WWF Tag Team Title TLC Match, WWF Smackdown!, 5/24/01)

The forgotten TLC match. This match took place during a time where free TV was just overflowing with, not just great but CLASSIC matches for the WWF. This one was amazing to watch for free just days after Jericho and Benoit won the titles in another all-time great tag match. The outcome was relatively obvious at the time but does it really matter that much in a match like this?

The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin (WrestleMania XIX, 3/30/03)

It was underrated because it didn't have the stakes of their other WrestleMania matches but perhaps their funnest match. It felt like something special regardless and ended up being Austin's last match and a fitting one at that. These two had gone from the faces of the company to "above the company" legends in just a couple years and I feel like that helped the match in an odd way. No titles, just two of the all-time greats for bragging rights.

Kurt Angle vs The Undertaker vs Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Triple H vs Rikishi vs The Rock (6 Man Hell in a Cell WWF Title Match, WWF Armageddon, 12/10/00)

Maybe the precursor to the elmination chamber, this was an insane match. Some may consider it a clusterfuck but I was so hyped for this and it didn't disappoint. There was always something going on. The polar opposite of the huge spot, followed by long aftermath story Taker-Mankind told, this was nothing but action til the end. Not to mention watching arguably the 5 best workers of the era working together... and Rikishi... who at least is involved in the spot of the match.

Steve Austin vs Chris Benoit (WWF Title Match, WWF Smackdown! 5/31/01)

Just a week after the TLC match. I was never the Benoit fan that most others were but there's no doubt in my mind that this was his WWE peak. The televised main events were blowing PPV out of the water at this point and this is arguably the best example of it. Add to that the fact that it was in front of a crazed hometown crowd for Benoit, and you've got one of the best matches in Smackdown history.

Kurt Angle vs Shane McMahon (Street Fight, WWF King of the Ring, 6/24/01)

Shane's second appearance on the list. This match is remembered more for the sick spot where Shane lands on his head after the glass that Angle suplexes him into doesn't break. But it's a great example of Shane MORE than holding his own in a brawl style environment. Throw in one of the greatest technicians of our generation and this was a unique match that had more than it's fair share of great moments. The build with Shane making sure to force Angle to wrestle as many matches as he could before ultimately costing him the KOTR crown before the match was brilliant as well.

Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio (WCW Cruiserweight Title Match, WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/26/97)

This was around my "I'll watch it later" phase of WCW fandom. One of the last matches from the company I remember really getting into. It was another mask vs title match which, as I think I mentioned during an earlier post, seems to be where Mysterio goes the extra mile. The ending was somewhat predictable but DAMN were these two fun to watch. Without a doubt one of the best cruiserweight matches WCW ever saw.

Bret Hart vs Mr. Perfect (WWF King of the Ring, 6/13/93)

A rematch of their classic SummerSlam match two years earlier, this was after Mr. Perfect's face turn (though he certainly worked as the heel here). I was really into both guys at the time and I remember being torn during this match. Looking back, it's a sad reminder of how huge perfect could have been as a face. It would have been fun to watch. I feel like if this match had just taken place in the finals, it would be much more memorable. Unfortunately it was only a semi-final match leading to another good match in the finals between Bret and Bam Bam and went on to just be lost in the shuffle. Awesome match and a great, out of the blue ending.

Brian Pillman vs Jushin Liger (WCW Light Heavyweight Title Match, Superbrawl II, 2/29/92)

The match that really introduced cruiserweight wrestling to me and I'm sure most of the country. It's strange to go back and watch how the crowd is reacting to these things that they are in no way used to seeing. We've been spoiled with so many cruiserweight matches in the past 20 years that I can see why some might say this one hasn't held up over time but it's awesome to watch and feel the historical relevance of this match. Regardless of how it relates to other cruiserweight matches in your mind stylistically, it was awesome then and is still awesome now.

Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle (WWE Title Iron Man Match, WWE Smackdown!, 9/18/03)

The only 60 minute iron man match in Smackdown history. It's a shame it wasn't saved for PPV as it could have secured it's place as an all-time great match but as a free TV match, it was amazing. Commercials don't really effect iron man matches as much for obvious reasons but when it comes to these two, that 12 or so minutes could have very well made it even better.

Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels (WWF Title Match, WWF Survivor Series, 11/25/92)

That other, far less infamous Bret vs Shawn Survivor Series match. This kinda of signals to me the changing of the guard from guys like Hogan and Warrior being the norm for the main event scene to technical masterpieces like this. And for that, I feel like it has it's own little place in history for me. Just an outstanding wrestling match before Michaels even began to hit his stride as a singles star.

Steve Austin vs Ricky Steamboat (WCW United States Title Match, Clash of the Champions XXVIII, 8/28/94)

More known for being Steamboat's final match before having to retire, it was a fitting way to go out, especially considering where his opponent was headed. Austin was more than just good, he was downright phenomenal at times in the ring and this is a good example of that. The last in a series of awesome matches these two were putting on in the early 90's.

Randy Orton vs Cactus Jack (WWE Intercontinental Title Hardcore Match, WWE Backlash, 4/18/04)

In my opinion, the most underrated hardcore match of all time. Talk about putting over the younger talent, this match made Orton look like a future legend in an instant. He played the "Down to go toe to toe yet still scared shitless" young, brash punk so well. The storytelling was great in that aspect on top of the fact that it was a great, brutal and bloody hardcore match. You don't get that mix too often.

Bret Hart vs The British Bulldog (WWF Title Match, In Your House 5: Season's Beatings, 12/17/95)

Another underrated match that get's overshadowed by the match they had 3 years earlier. Triple H vs Steve Austin (Three Stages of Hell Match, WWE No Way Out, 2/25/01)

Okay, so the second fall was arguably one of the most predictable falls ever. It's a glaring downside to doing this type of match. But that doesn't take away from the greatness that was the match as a whole. The end of one of the great late-attitude era feuds, this match was just a classic. You could just tell these two went until they were absolutely spent. I remember some people had a problem with the ending but I thought it couldn't be more fitting. You got a definitive finish but in the end, it was clear that neither was really the better man. Coupled with the post-match stunner, this match just encapsulated an entire feud within the span of one match. I loved that about it.

The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels (No Holds Barred Match, WrestleMania XXVI, 3/28/10)

It took me a while to do anything but hate this match. Especially as an HBK fan, I just hated how everything felt like it was leading to an incredible, magic, defying the odds moment where HBK ends the streak. After the anger went away though, I had to see it for what it was and that's why it ends up in my top 50 favorite matches ever. HBK's last match kind of irks me as he showed that not only could he still go, but he went out as the absolute best in the business. I don't care how old he was, there was never a point in his career where it was "time to give it up and let the young guys take over." He went out putting most of the younger talent to shame in the ring and putting on a classic in maybe the biggest pressure situation of his career in the main event at WrestleMania, considering the bar he and Taker had set the year before.

Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon (WWF Intercontinental Title Ladder Match, WrestleMania X, 3/20/94)

Before we really hit the realm of "You ranked that too high"s, we've got one that I'm sure a lot of people will probably think is too low. The birth of the ladder match, still a great match to this day where ladder matches are not only commonplace but have changed drastically. The ladder was used to enhance the match as opposed as a crutch which was awesome to see. These two didn't need the gimmick but they took it and they made it iconic. A great, historic match... I just happen to prefer 47 others.

The insane pace, the rabid crowd, the awesome reversals, the false finishes and my favorite 619 ever. One of the crowning gems of that fabled "Smackdown Six" era. Great match, unbelievable last five minutes or so.

Bret Hart vs Owen Hart (WWF Title Steel Cage Match, SummerSlam, 8/29/94)

I liked Owen... I just don't think I put him on as high of a level as others. And that's probably why this is another match that is ranked lower to me than it may be to others. Character-wise I didn't really buy into him at this point but he was still putting on some classic matches and this is one of his best. A match that got knocked from the main event by the infamous Undertaker vs Undertaker match, this was one of the best worked cage matches I've ever seen.

Ric Flair vs Mr. Perfect (Loser Leaves Town Match, WWF Raw, 1/25/93)

Flair's going away match before heading back to WCW. Like I said earlier, I really wanted so much for the Mr. Perfect face turn to turn into something bigger. As it stands though, this was the peak for me. A ton at stake and the little examples of "fighting extra hard" like the sequence where Hennig continued fighting to kick out of a pin while Flair's feet were on the ropes and Flair's turnbuckle flip followed by the immediate recovery and run to the other turnbuckle were awesome. And of course, Heenan on commentary was great as always. Two of the best of all time in a great, monumental match during the early days of Raw. Another awesome childhood memory. I can only imagine what a PPV crowd might have added to this.

Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho vs Steve Austin and Triple H (WWF Tag Team Title Match, WWF Raw, 5/21/01)

Arguably the best tag team match of the 2000's during the few year span where I think Benoit was being booked the best he'd ever been. Hot crowd and it was part of a streak of televised main events that were just off the charts. One of the few times where I didn't mind a bit of clusterfuck/mayhem at the end of a match. Triple H taking that Walls of Jericho on the table after tearing his quad is brutal to watch still.

Triple H vs Cactus Jack (WWF Title Hardcore Match, WWF Royal Rumble, 1/23/00)

The match that turned Triple H from a forced star into a legit superstar in my mind. This entire feud was everything right about putting over the future of your company and both guys took their individual goals and ran with them. Arguably the best hardcore match of the 2000s and a highlight of a feud that I grow to love more and more over time.

Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar (WWE Title Match, WrestleMania XIX, 3/30/03)

The second Lesnar-Angle match on my list might be higher if it held more significance over time looking at where the two men are just 8 years later. I don't take points away because of the botch at the end because I don't feel wrestling matches need to be aesthetically perfect. Some awkward landings make things feel more genuine. And in this case, jumping out of my seat after seeing a guy possibly break his neck only him to come back and win the match was a nice touch. These two were just brilliant together and while I felt going in that they didn't have the "WM main event" feel going, they pulled off one a stellar match. Not to mention the whole thing was in jeopardy up to a few days before because of Angle's condition. One of the more underrated WM main events of all time I feel. I could be wrong but I get the feeling most people are apathetic towards it.

Big fan of Angle-Lesnar at Mania. Personally, knowing what Angle is going through during this match makes it that much better for me, as did the botched shooting star. The spot was sick, probably better because it was botched than if he would've pulled it off successfully.

That Triple H/Cactus Jack match was billed as a 'street fight'.

God I remember this PPV with such fondness and markism. In the UK, this was probably the absolute peak of pro wrestling and the WWF. I remember this was already during the Attitude Era, which everyone was watching, but in the UK that RR PPV was free on Channel 4 or whatever... and I remember the next day at school (I was 13 at the time) EVERYONE was talking about it. And I mean EVERYONE. All the boys, the girls, even the teachers were all in on it. Great times.

Yeah, that was the first (of 8) free PPVs that Channel 4 carried. Good times.

Also, a huge fan of Angle/Lesnar. Perhaps the Mania Main Event I've watched the most. It was hard to enjoy it at the time knowing that one false move could end Angle's career.

Shawn Michaels vs John Cena (WWE Raw, 4/23/07)

*Dodges the looks coming his way* Alright, let me explain. This was the most I've been into a match on free TV since I was a child... and there wasn't even anything at stake. I'm convinced that if this were the WrestleMania match, we'd be talking about it with the great WM matches of all time. It really SHOULD have been how the WM match went but nevertheless the crowd is just loving it and Cena put on the performance of a lifetime. I just don't dock this match as much as most do for it being a non-title free TV main event. It loses some points for the lack of historical relevance but for overcoming that to be an absolute classic, I have it as my 41st favorite match of all time.

Sting and Lex Luger vs The Steiner Brothers (WCW World Tag Team Title Match, SuperBrawl I, 5/19/91)

I have a love for face vs face matches already. This one was particularly awesome though. Four of the top fan favorites at the time just destroying each other. It wasn't long or dramatic or a psychological masterpiece. It was like a video game... just power move after power move and the crowd was eating it up. A really unique match. One of the funnest start to finish tag matches I've ever seen. A clean ending would have been cool but... what are ya gonna do.

Ricky Steamboat vs Rick Rude (Iron Man Match, WCW Beach Blast, 6/20/92)

The introduction of the iron man match. Years ago, I would have put this higher. It was maybe my favorite match at the time especially as a huge Ricky Steamboat mark as a child an Rick Rude was arguably the star of WCW in the ring at this time and it made for an awesome back and forth match. There were some questionable falls but for the most part, they made sense. Rude's comeback in the beginning to start pulling away followed by the intentional DQ just to get an easy pin and the last 30 seconds were fantastic. I think now, seeing how clear it is that a 1 fall win is the only real way to make an iron man match interesting, it takes some suspense away but still two of the greatest of all time in a match that just fit them so well. It would have been great to see them go an hour.

Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn (ECW Television Title Match, ECW Living Dangerously, 3/21/99)

The feud that originally got me into ECW and I think this was their best. One of the great pure wrestling feuds of all time in my mind. Everything these two did against each other was just so fluid and flowed so well. Also, the best use of the "5 more minutes" thing with Lynn basically just being handed the title but declining it for a clean finish.

Kurt Angle vs The Undertaker (World Heavyweight Title Match, WWE No Way Out, 2/19/06)

Another match that's been lost over the years, these two put on a match that I think everyone expected to be good and ended up being amazing. Throw this in as the main event at WrestleMania a month later over Rey's title win (streak aside) and you've got an all-time classic. As it stands, it's another footnote in both men's careers but without a doubt one of the best matches either was ever a part of.

Steve Austin vs The Rock (WWF Title No Holds Barred Match, WrestleMania X-7, 4/1/01)

In hindsight, it's not as impactful as it seemed at the time. Still a HUGE deal at the time. Not only the turn but the match itself. One of the more anticipated WrestleMania main events of all time and it ended up being a classic. So unpredictable at the time. The main event of, in my mind, the greatest PPV of all time and the match that is considered by many to signify the end of the attitude era.

The Steiner Brothers vs The Miracle Violence Connection (Clash of the Champions XIX, 6/16/92)

I should preface this by saying this may be my favorite tag feud ever. I was a HUGE Steiner Brothers mark when I was a kid and Gordy and Williams always genuinely scared me for their sake. While you had monster heels that were intimidating, you always had a feeling the good guy would pull through but this was one of the first feuds that I always genuinely felt like the heroes just weren't up to par. While I know a lot of people consider this a weaker match in the feud, I still love it for what it was. Gordy and Williams just seemed so unbeatable.

Ric Flair vs Barry Windham (NWA World Title Match, NWA Worldwide, 1/24/87)

The best of a streak of great matches these two put on and it was free on an episode of Worldwide. Went to a TV time limit draw and might actually be higher on my list if it had an ending. Instead, it served to just add fuel to the fire of an already hot feud revolving around Windham dead-set on finding a way to beat Flair for the title and Flair constantly finding a way to escape with it. The match itself isn't online for some reason but it is on the "Ultimate Ric Flair Collection" DVD. Instead, I'll just post a video of another stellar match between the two from the same year that shows how well they worked together. Some actually consider this one to be the best match between the two. Flair definitely brought out the best in Windham and vice versa.

Edge & Christian vs The Hardyz vs The Dudleyz (WWF Tag Team Title TLC Match, WrestleMania X-7, 4/1/01)

The addition of Rhyno, Spike and Lita randomly in the match, the atmosphere, and the fact that I thought there was no way E & C would win it AGAIN made this match stand out so much. One of the highlights of arguably the greatest PPV in wrestling history and everything a TLC match should be. Intense from beginning to end.

Eddie's world title win. I wish it could have worked out for these two to have a nice long feud because they just meshed so well together. Loved the false finishes at the end even though I could not have dreamed that Eddie would actually pull it out. Brilliant.

Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker (Hell in a Cell Match, WWF Badd Blood: In Your House, 10/5/97)

I have a feeling a lot of people are going to find this match either too high or too low. I'm not sure which. I thought it was a classic and still unmatched as far as HIAC goes, but I just never could quite put it in the upper ranks. I think as an HBK mark, I hated the heel turn initially so much that it kinda deterred me from liking it even more. Still, one of the better performances of HBK's career. This is one example of a cheap finish actually being perfectly acceptable though with Kane's debut being such a major part of WWE history.

Randy Savage vs Ric Flair (WWF Title Match, WrestleMania VIII, 4/5/92)

Yeah, it could have been better only because of the AMAZING build and the fact that it was Savage and Flair at WrestleMania. It had a lot of expectations to live up to and while many might find it too high, I wasn't disappointed one bit. Should be thought of as a classic all things considered. Not to mention Heenan on commentary being brilliant.

Shawn Michaels vs Mankind (WWF Title Match, In Your House 10: Mind Games, 9/22/96)

Maybe the most interesting blend of styles I've ever seen in a match and probably the best pure wrestling match of Foley's career. It had an odd ECW-like feel to it for some reason. A great mesh of hard bumps and story telling. A legit ending could have been nice but for a transition match as both men were just waiting to start bigger feuds, a DQ was fine I guess as the post match brawl was fun as well.

The Rockers vs The Orient Express (WWF Royal Rumble, 1/19/91)

The forgotten opening match of the 91 Royal Rumble is possibly the greatest tag team match in wrestling history and in my mind, the best opener in PPV history. This one has personal value as I grew up a HUGE Steiner Brothers fan and Gordy and Williams were a perfect match for them. 1) Shawn Michaels - 13

SWERVE! I think it might be a toss-up over which one is better. I prefer the ending to this one obviously... Also, this one managed to still have a big fight atmosphere even with the lack of the WrestleMania stage and a somewhat obvious outcome. But like these two were so good at doing, even the obvious outcome was in doubt at times during the match. More great storytelling from these two.

Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat (WWF Intercontinental Title Match, WrestleMania III, 3/29/87)

The greatest IC Title match of all time and also quite possibly the most acclaimed match in wrestling history comes in at 7... and I still feel like some will find it too low. It had everything going for it with a great build, and two of the best ever on the biggest stage in wrestling history and it didn't disappoint a bit. The typical dastardly heel spots with the face finding a way to eek out a win but they did it so beautifully. Almost like it was choreographed move by move before-hand. Hmm...

I could have gone for some shock value of some sort but predictable or not, if I'm being honest, this takes it. It's a great list.

I'm surprised that Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit from the Royal Rumble 2003 didn't make the top 100 though.

I'll show you! You'll see!
I stand corrected. Kudos.

Also, it's a great list. Mine would be very different because I haven't seen a lot of the older stuff (perhaps this thread could change that).

I think I might start making my way through this list during some free time I have as I've not seen some of the older matches and can't even fully remember most of the matches I have seen because I very rarely rewatch a match.

I was never as big of a Benoit fan as most people. I really enjoyed his tag matches with other guys I really liked for some reason Just never found myself too interested in the outcome of his matches. One exception being the match with Austin for the title because that was just genius. He worked for me on some levels when he played the scrappy, Steamboat-esque face but for the most part I didn't find him terribly likable. The whole murder-suicide stuff didn't exactly help that.

Was the WM20 triple threat in there? I can't remember and am too lazy to look back over the whopping six pages of this thread.

If you had to give a number to the John Cena/CM Punk MitB match, where would it be on the list?

I'm thinking like #20
