View Full Version : Sheamus's face turn

Sheamus is my favourite Artistic Combatant and has been for some time now. Was kinda surprised to see him turn face because he just seems like such a natural heel. How do you guys think his face run will play out?

As long as they don't make him a crowd-pandering kiss ass, he should be fine. Honestly, he's done some face-like things in the past that didn't even seem terribly out of character.

I think his feud with Henry should be solid, although I think he's just going to be another body in Henry's wake ala Kane, Big Show.

he cut a promo god knows how long ago and all I could think of during it was that he's going to make a dynamite face at some point and could really get over with it

twas Night of Champions last year before the Orton match

Think Sheamus might make a pretty good babyface.

It's really hard to say to be honest. Sheamus had that perfect 'bully' type character about him. I was enjoying him as a heel, so I'm happy to give a face-run a chance.

Lock Jaw

Yeah, as long as they keep him a badass dude who beats up everybody it'll be good. If he starts carrying a shillelagh and starts to pal around with Hornswoggle, then we should be concerned.

Rammsteinmad

Especially after Sheamus said he hates Hornswoggle for portraying the typical Irish stereotype.

Then again, WWE doesn't have a brilliant track record when it comes to remembering things in the past.

Sheamus being face at this point looks to be a natural progression for his character. He's shown enough talent and had enough good matches so the fans will accept him as a face. I'm interested to see if WWE can properly use him while he's face, cause during certain instances as a heel they dropped the ball. And he's the right opponent now for Mark Henry. Since Big Show and Kane are out, Sheamus turning is perfect timing. Orton is the only other top face currently and he's fueding with Christian. Sheamus is really the only option WWE had now as far as having another top face on SD...

Most likely a mix between Henry's ruthlessness without the bullying part and Orton's face situation without the going insane part.

Right now he matches up well with Mark Henry as almost being his opposite but at the same time shares a lot of the toughness and eagerness to beat up people.

The Sheamus turn has nudged Trent Baretta out of the top 5 Smackdown babyfaces. Shortest reign since Christian's first world title.

Sheamus has been consistantly great since moving to Smackdown and the feuds he can have as a face are a lot fresher than any he would as a heel there. Henry, Barrett, Cody, Christian. He should finish the year strong and I wouldn't even mind Sheamus vs Bryan finally happening at Mania next year.

Sheamus was getting cheers even when he was a heel just because he's such an awesome character and the fans respect him. He can keep his same gimmick going, except make it more crowd friendly (but not too crowd friendly) and it would be a perfect turn. I'm excited to see him as a face

That's how it is going to go down.

Slight difference, ThePhantom

Sheamus doesn't have someone going all out to torpedo him, like Finlay did.

It was funny to watch SD and see a lot of people jump up and cheer when Sheamus' music hit. I didn't expect that.

I have to admit I actually marked out when Sheamus confronted Henry. If they do what Smelly Meatball said and make him Orton without the voices I could definatly get behind it.

Im not feeling his face turn. He was a great heel. They shoulda made him a tweener at most but not 100% face because everyone knows gingers are evil.

Can't help but feel they had to switch him face out of necessity and it's already working out quite well but I'm not expecting it to last for a prolonged perriod of time eventually he will switch back.

I always thought of Sheamus as more of a natural face. If they don't have him dance with Hornswaggle, he could be awesome. As corny as it may sound, I wouldn't mind him donning some kind of face paint, like he did in FCW. There aren't enough wrestlers with face paint anymore.

I never expected the fans to cheer him so quickly after being heel all his WWE career. I was kinda thinking it would be more gradual, but after seeing the reaction on SD it's the right move. It will be interesting to see how this plays out...

I don't see Sheamus as a Hornswoggle loving crowd panderer. His look doesn't scream "goody-goody two shoes".

Finlay wasn't the crowd loving Hornswoggle carrying character either. He started as a tough guy looking for a fight

All I can say is I called it.

He was overdue to turn, much like Christian. Having him come out all "Lex Express" like to confront the unstoppable Yoko-Henry is pretty much instant face turn for anyone that stepped up to that plate.

As long as he stays the same type of character he is and not get the Finlay treatment that everyone is worried about, he should be fine.

Just seen his promo with Mark Henry this week and can't wait to see where it goes. Have always felt like this had to happen for him, he's playing the role well to so far.

He was already being cheered for that, so if WWE can continue to let him do awesome things like this to Mark Henry, the fans should react in a big way. At this point in Mark Henry's turn, he needs a guy that can balance the squashes he's had with Kane and Big Show. Sheamus is the perfect believable candidate for that IMO.

He was a truly awesome character to watch back then. He destroyed everyone in his path while maintaining a certain coolness. Definately one of the more unique guys to come along wrestling in a while.

... then he suddenly and inexplicably became a weak, chickenshit heel. Took him awhile to recover from that.

I never understood WWE's logic on that. Pushing him as a badass, unstoppable force was the right call. He's easily one of the more talented guys I've seen to come along in WWE. Making him KOTR was good in the beginning, but it quickly took a turn for the worse. I'm just glad they are finally coming to their senses and using him more properly.

I like Sheamus, I didn't think he was established enough to run around with the belt like he did, but he's getting over. Face turn isn't bad. He pretty much tells people he's going to kick their ass, and he likes to fight. Normally that's boring. But when you have red hair and pale skin, it looks like you really mean that shit.

Plus he says "fella" a lot. I think it's Irish for "chico".

I like his attitude. Very Austin-esque. He's cut promos on heels before when they were in his way and it made sense. His type of character fits well with most situations when done properly.

Given Sheamus' clout with Triple H backstage, I'm really surprised his character hasn't been as strong as it was when he started out. Maybe it was paying dues and all that but the guy has serious talent. If this face run fails, it won't be his fault.

Remember when we all thought Umaga was turning face, and he didn't. I hope that doesn't happen with Sheamus.

If they turned him just so he can be fodder for Mark Henry, then, yeah, it's a waste. He certainly has the potential to fill the number two face spot behind Orton but he needs some major heels to keep himself occupied.

I agree, if WWE fails with his face turn, it won't be his fault. Lately, WWE has had a bad track record of making new stars. Seems like every time a Sheamus, Miz or Jack Swagger are pushed to the top, they change their mind and depush them. I just hope every new guy they push doesn't get the same treatment. Guys like Daniel Bryan, John Morrison, R-Truth, Sheamus, Jack Swagger and the Miz are guys that should be considered the future. For some reason though, WWE is hesitant to pull the trigger and establish them properly...

...I guess it's WWE's way of having guys "pay their dues"...also, it may be WWE not burning out guys...WWE pushes these young guys, gives them a taste of Main Event matches, perhaps a title run, and then push them back and let them cool off for a bit, so fans don't get tired.

From a business standpoint it makes no sense though. Soon enough all the current main eventers will be gone with no clear replacements. Plus, it's ignorant of WWE to start a major push for someone and then depush them b/c they changed their mind. I never recall that happening back during the MNW's. If they'd done that more while WCW and ECW were major competition, WWE could have went under. To me, WWE waiting until the last minute to make new stars is mind boggling. No matter how you look at it, WWE has to eventually trust the new talent and make new stars to keep the system going.
