Who (if anybody) would leave and join a small name company and legitimize it to a main stream company? Kinda like what Hulk Hogan leaving to WCW, would Cena joining Chikara make it a major name?

Trick question? Chikara already is a major name.

Blakeamus

Yes, because he is a household name. And with the direction that Chikara has, and Cena's fanbase consisting of young kids, there is no doubt Chikara would have leverage. I think when Steve Austin left the WWE...if he would of signed to TNA in it's early years, could of made a little bit more of an impact than Bishoff/Hogan has.

WCW was already a major name in wrestling when Hogan came in, that's a pretty ridiculous comparison.

It's the same thing with TNA. It might not be AS well known as WCW, but it's on that level. If they brought in Cena, they'd pop a huge rating for a few weeks, but their booking would destroy it. It did with Angle and did with Hardy, the latter of which is a tested enormous draw.

It could not happen on an indy level at all right now. If ROH does expand and get major clearance with the backing of Sinclaire, MAYBE down the line, but that's a HUGE maybe and more likely than not a hell no. No one on the indy scene could afford someone like Cena right now.

It would all come down to booking, timeslot and backing. Let's assume you have all that. Amazing booking, a decent timeslot (say, 10PM on TNT on a Tuesday) and a major backer who's going to throw money at anyone huge, much like Turner (Bischoff) did. All you're missing is the star power. Since this is a fantasy world with immaculate booking, you could take someone on the level of, say, a John Morrison and make him the focal point and be relatively successful. If they acquired Cena it would absolutely blow it out of the water and they'd likely be made.

But right now? Taking a small company to a major company? Not happening, as there are currently no other promotions, other than TNA and WWE, who could possibly become mainstream.

Chikara couldn't afford to pay for one Cena appearance, let alone make him the face of the company. Unless we're just assuming Cena would do such a thing because he is a huge fan of Mike Quackenbush and doesn't like money.

John Cena and Randy Orton are the obvious ones. Truthfully, I think you could potentially build a promotion around Kurt Angle or AJ Styles. Maybe they wouldn't compete with the WWE, or anything like that, but I think they could at least carry TNA.

CM Punk, as white-hot as he is these days, is becoming another dude that just seems to fit right at the centre of everything. The Miz and Sheamus will get there eventually, too.

You can also build a company around good, solid booking with decent to awesome talent and a complete lack of nepotism.

Honestly, it could really be anyone that is awesome on the stick. Look at what WWE did with Austin. He was a NOBODY, but when he moved to WWE he became the man that turned the Monday Night Wars to WWE's side.

So really, it could be any of the people WWE decides to release. Barring they can work, and the booking isn't complete shit.

Always thought Mr Anderson was going to be the man, but TNA booking = Poop.

That being said, I would build my company around The Miz

Kevin Dunn, or whoever is in charge of the actual technical production of the shows.

It is my honest opinion that other companies can have all the "star power" they want, they will never go anywhere until they can compete with the extremely high production values of the WWE.

I remember wishing this kinda thing would happen when WWE released Charlie Haas the second time. Never happened. :(

If I were starting up a wrestling promotion, and Charlie Haas were a free agent; I'd bring him in and give the Heyman-style push of focusing on his strengths and the charisma he does have. Even if it doesn't generate me a shit-ton of cash, Haas would at least make a great trainer/agent when he retires.

If you took Cena, Punk, Triple H from the WWE for the "main event" and put them somewhere that was already somewhat large, you'd really have a shot. That said WCW didn't just steal their Main Event guys like Hogan, Savage, Bret, Nash...they stole their mid-card as well.

Like Vince "stole" all of the talent from the territories?

Swiss Ultimate
11-07-2011, 11:50 AM
I didn't mean it literally or in a negative light.

Still, my point stands. The few big names are great, but you have to grab the hot mid-card guys as well if you want to do what WCW did.

Then again, who wants to bleed money for years and then go bankrupt?

So let's update this thread, can anybody today go to another company and make it top contendor to the WWE?

Ryback becomes NWA World Champion
CM Punk goes back to TNA

If Punk went to ROH while he was a hot name then maybe yeah, now he's back to a relative nobody.

Nobody to TNA would be a draw. I'm not even knocking Punk here.

True this, as history has proved. ANybody who goes to TNA loses star power. Look how normal Foley, Booker T, Nash and others all looked there. Kurt Angle has survived only because he is such a fucking good wrestler. But his character is nowhere near as good as it was in WWE. Word.
