Taker it Easy

It is 1949. Adolf Hitler has been dead for four years. Jerry O'Neil Lawler is born. Lets talk about a guy who can make anyone laugh. Lets talk about a white man with the middle name O'Neil. Lets talk about a man who in 1996 put on a good match / feud with The Ultimate Warrior. Lets talk about a man who was accused of sexual relations with a minor AND the whole world forgot about it. Lets talk about the King.

It is 1970. The Beatles are breaking up and Jerry Lawler makes his in ring debut. One year later he wins his first title.

Jerry Lawler has excelled within his career. Face, heel and most often a comedic character.

Younger fans of wrestling or late 1990's wrestling may not think of him as a very gifted performer yet he is. He has held 164 titles. He is a down and dirty pervert. A mans man.

What do you love about him? What are some of his matches and promos that are great but not overtly known?

P.S. I want to state that I personally invited Fragile X to write up a special forward for this post regarding 'The Thoughts of a Southern Man Bent Upon Jerry Lawler', thats what I called it but who knows what he would have done. Anyway, I did this because I think he is from Tennessee but he never responded. Also. Fragile X has Taker it Easy stickers. Get him to do something with them. He is in New York City.

The true voice of WWE Jerry Lawler is not only The King of Memphis Rasslin', he's The King of Harts, the hearts of many rasslin fans worldwide.

His 90's run I was a child, I saw him as a chubby jobber who was good on the stick. However, little did I know I would never forget his wild antics. From wrestling circles around The Warrior, to hiding under the ring in the '96 Royal Rumble, to nudging the rib of Jake The Snake with a gigantic bottle of champange. What a classy moment that went beyond the surface into the story of a real man and his deamons. He was Mark Henry's debut program as well apart of two classicly booked feuds with The Hitman and Roddy Piper.

Funny how it wasn't until Wrestlemania this past year before I started pulling for a Jerry push. He's now the most consistant voice herd on Raw in its history, as well as pulling off good matches when summoned to the ring.

We may never see WWE Gold around his waist but he is more than deserving of a DVD telling his life story and featuring his greatest matches.

LONG LIVE THE KING

I liked his feud with Jake Roberts where he proclaimed that Jake's new tag partners were Jim Beam and Jack Daniels. I also liked when he was doing commentary on a house mic WHILE he was wrestling. Remember when he was trying to get his feet to be as smelly as possible for the Kiss My Foot match with Bret Hart, and there were vignettes of him walking barefoot through horse stables and whatnot? Good stuff.

Let's also not forget that he was DIRECTLY responsible for the debut of Isaac Yankem, D.D.S. immediately following that feud. :shifty:

yeah I would definitely love to see a 3 or 4 disc set on Lawler

however it would be pointless for the doc and matches without the Memphis video library

Lance Russell and Bill Dundee should be both be interviewed for the Memphis part of the documentary
