Being someone who has read "A Princess of Mars" I went in with very low expectations.
However, the movie is fun and for being PG-13..it manages to fit in a lot including some gore. The movie does not capture a lot of the brutality of the book. The art design and a lot of the characters look just how I pictured them. I sensed some strong influence from "Dune".
It is worth the money I think. Just a fun action flick with some light hearted moments.

I saw it myself. I thought of Avatar, Conan the Barbarian and Phantom Menace.. The aliens' language almost sounded like Jar Jar Binks' tribe in that one.. I can't help but laughing with the audience everytime the Tharks call him Virginia instead of John throughout the movie. Hahah. Fun stuff.

I saw it over the weekend. It didn't really hook me into the franchise, but I quite enjoyed it for what it was. Honestly, I don't see why it's getting such bad reviews, when there's been much worse out lately.

Saw it, it's really good. The 3D gimmick is a blast.

I think one reason the media so down on it, is that Entertainment Weekly was making catty wisecracks about it before the thing was even out and everybody's just following their lead. There may be a more insidious reason for EW to bust out the snarky dictionary on Disney flicks, methinks :shifty:

"Mars Needs Moms, but Earth didn't need this movie!" Wasn't that out, like, a year & a half ago?

This was a really great movie. It's a shame it's considered a "flop" by the studio's standards. $200 mil is a flop somehow.

Great soundtrack too, GIACCHINO (even though he recycled a few Lost tunes in there (he did that with Up too though))

I heard it was a really fun soft-scifi film. Will eventually get to watch it.

It cost something like $250 million, that's probably why it's considered a flop. It would need to make over half a billion to turn a real profit. Being a flop or not is besides how good it is, by any stretch it's a definite flop.
