WWE announced that WrestleMania XXVIII, held April 1 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, set new records for pay-per-view buys and gross sales.

Preliminary estimates show that WrestleMania, featuring the historic “Once in a Lifetime” Match between The Rock and John Cena, garnered 1.3 million pay-per-view buys with global gross sales in excess of $67 million including the live event.

WrestleMania was seen around the world on pay-per-view in more than 105 countries and 20 languages.

Next year’s WrestleMania will take place Sunday, April 7, 2013, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Ticket information will be announced later this year.

If these preliminary estimates hold up, that's a pretty damn impressive buyrate even for a WM...

1.3 is not 1.5, and it's certainly not the other number someone said of 1.9

1.3 is pretty good.

1.3 for the Rock is not very good. 1.5 would be "okay". 1.7 would be good.

It may not have reached St. Jimmy's expectations but that number is still pretty damned good.

Yes. Pretty sure it's the biggest buyrate ever for the company.

Unreasonable projections.

300, 000 is a GREAT increase in buys, especially when you look further back.

It was the equivalent of about $25 here, or £15 in real money. That was a great deal.

Fair play to Sky, I've been expecting a price jump on the WWE PPV's for years but it's never happened. And keeping Wrestlemania the same price as the rest of them is cool. Even though we did used to get them all for free once upon a time, that was never going to last forever, and we still get a good handful of them for free. Considering the UK is probably WWE's biggest overseas hotspot, we get a great deal compared to how it is in the States and a lot of other countries. I have no idea who would pay $50 odd for something like Fatal 4 Way or Over the Limit. Ludicrous.

1.3 million is not a buyrate it's the actual numbers of buys.

Buyrate: How many people bought it divided by how many people could buy it.

Wow, Jimmy. Thought you were supposed to be calming down. You look like a real idiot here.

Until we see profit margin for this thing there's no way we'll know if this is a success in terms of money. That said, breaking records is at the very least good for business considering the fact that so many people have tuned out.

I can only imagine one scenario where not meeting the "projected" numbers but still breaking their previous records qualifies as a failure. If they spent more on The Rock (who by the way never "drew" like he did at Mania so saying "1.3 for the Rock" is not very good is subjective if we're giving you credit and outright silly if not) and the PPV combined and that profit did not meet or exceed the average Wrestlemania profit keeping with inflation.

So go read one of those "news sites" and get back to us, okay?

711,000 North American Buys.

This was not as great as a number as WWE expected.
