View Full Version : Name Some Big Budget Movies You Hated

It doesn't have to be Avatar big, it just needs to have been produced by a main-stream studio and have that "block-buster" feel. Also tell why you hated it and if it did a good job on any specific part let us know about that too.

I saw The Mist based on a Stephen King story and pretty much hated it. The entire premise was heavy on the dumb side, the characters were all extremely two dimensional and I thought their reactions were unrealistic in the extreme. Felt like the story was just an excuse to make fun of religious people. Hated that the "artist" somehow turned into a "leader" that everyone wanted to listen to and follow. The ending was cliched too, too much of a "twist" for my taste. Pretty much hated the Father for doing what he did, it was such a stupid decision and kind of felt like it unintentionally indicted his own liberal philosophy. "I know what's best for everybody, so I won't even talk to my son before making a giant decision and then turning out to be completely stupidly wrong for doing so." HATE HATE HATED THIS MOVIE!!!

That said, I like the atmosphere and some of the action from the major "good guys" was decent if a little over-the-top. Loved the monster design and am a sucker for movies where people have to hunker down to survive.

The bad outweighed the good, however.

$18 million isn't a "big budget" and that's what they shot The Mist for (in Shreveport, LA).. I went on to the grocery store set cause I was in Shreve working on a Sam Jackson flop called The Cleaner when they were there shooting..

Anything over $100 million goes in that category..

Titanic.

Remember at the time I wanted to see the Mr Bean film I think but the group I was decided at the last moment not to split up so I got stuck watching Titanic.

Pretty boring until the last hour and ended up being the only one in the group who didn't fall asleep at any point during the film.

Transformers 2. Other than CGI and excellent action sequenes, this movie fucking sucked. It was one gigantic trailer that ran far too long and had nothing resembling the charm of the first one.

Avatar. I feel like it is one of the most overrated movies of our generation. Yeah, the cgi was outstaning, but other than that, all it was was Pocahantas with blue people that got an academy nod based on hype, box office, and "groundbreaking" cgi.

Spider-Man 3. Not that it was horrible, but in no way did it even remotely compare to the second Spidey film, and, seeing as it is now the finale of the original trilogy, it's an almost overwhelming dissappointment.

Van Helsing. Just remember my brother and I being so stoked to see this, got it on DVD, and felt really disapointed.

Transformers 2, it was just Michael Bay at his very worst, sure it was fun but not all that much

The 3rd Matrix.

The 2nd was a step down but the 3rd could have saved it. Instead it went out like shit.

All Transformers movies (To be fair, I was bored by the first one, and I hate Shia LeDouche, so I stopped watching there)
Lord of All those Rings

Those are the ones off the top of my head.

Transformers 2 and probably the 1st 3 Xmen and the Wolverine movie. Transformers for the reasons everyone else stated, Xmen just because I'm a huge fan of the comic books and there was so much missing/changed it kinda annoyed me to the point I couldn't enjoy them.

This may be due to a bitch I dated who watched them like they held the clues to the fucking world. Every time I went over there her and her weirdo ass friends would watch these fucking movies. By the end I considered bludgeoning Elijah Wood to death. Instead we split up and I went back to fucking normal girls.

Transformers 2 was trash. Didn't care for Avatar but I respected it on a technical level, at least.

The Mist was awesome.

Avatar was harmless, Transformers are gash, Titanic was great, Independence Day is still fun, Matrix 1 was aight, watched the 2nd that made me not want to see the 3rd and still haven't, thought The Mist was pretty funny because of the ending, Spiderman 3 was quite gash, Superman Returns was dullll

just randomly commenting on things mentioned in here

I think I may have been the only person alive to not hate 2012 but I'm biased via man crush on John Cusack and being a sucker for anything global disaster related. Sahara, Wild Wild West and Poseidon were pretty shit and cost a fortune

Dunno, tend to love lots of films people generaly hate and hate films people generally love. Thought Incepttion was pretty shit por example.

He even apologised to us after it had finished.

As for Lord of the Rings, I watched the first one and didn't bother with the second one. It didn't grip me, I think.

They only get better though.. The Two Towers was better than Fellowship of the Ring and Return of the King was the best one..

Out of the books, The Hobbit was my fav Tolkien so I'm pumped for that movie..

I didn't really care for Inception or really any of DiCaprio's movies I've seen aside from Blood Diamond & Shutter Island. I'm willing to give the Departed a pass since I've only seen part of it and it has Wahlberg.

I haven't seen the 3rd Tranformers, last 2 Matrix, or last 2 LOTR. Love Independence Day though.

CSL

thought Inception was fucking great. And you should probably watch all of The Departed, equally good

There's not many films I can say that I hate especially when it comes to higher budget ones but the original Mission Impossible comes pretty damn close it had such a convoluted plot.

Transformers 3 definently fits here for me

Avatar as well...

Spiderman 3

Fantastic Four 2

Would Terminator Salvation count?

Swiss Ultimate

Yes. In fact any movie with enough budget to produce decent effects/graphics and hire allegedly decent actors counts. None of this "has to cost 100 million" bullshit.

Felt like King Kong was another bloated CGI wankfest, and I also found The Dark Knight surprisingly tame and a little dull, needed more Batman and more Joker focus, they always try to squeeze too many enemies into comic sequels.

Whiteyford, I like you bro...but daredevil was horrible. How can Michael Clark Duncan be an effective Kingpin? I never saw Moulin Rouge, but a musical about whores? I'll pass...I"m not a Cap fan at all, but I saw the movie because I believe in the Avengers. I was only happy at the end when they showed us the Avengers clip.

I never read much of the source material so i kinda went in with low expectations, Elektra was terrible but then a pg13 movie about an assassin was always going to be lacking. Moulin Rouge was really fucking depressing which i kinda liked, except the raping of Smells like teen spirit :( Capt. America just seemed like a origin story to introduce the Avengers, again haven't really read much of the source stuff so i kinda went in not expecting much.
