Rick Rude. Did just about everything better than Sting other than play babyface, which is almost essential in an age where a lot of guys turn regularly. His heel work was so good though that you feel it wouldn't matter. Made telling a group of people he was about to take his robe off the coolest thing ever. One of the original "cool heels", you'd probably have to turn him face in this day and age off the back of the support he'd probably get

plus he appeared on RAW, Nitro and ECW Hardcore TV in the space of like 3-4 days. Such a mark for him

Haven't really seen much of Rick Rude so it's Sting pretty much by default for me.

Sting.

But Rick Rude was awesome, though.

Rude.

Loved the custom tights Rude used to wear since they really helped play into his character especially the time he wore I think it was Jake Roberts wife on one of them.

Rude was far more naturally gifted and fun to watch. Fuck, he made matches with the fucking Warrior look half-decent instead of half-assed.

Rick Rude oozed charisma, and was very good in the ring. He had one of the best gimmicks of all time.

Honestly cant really tell much more than what CSL said above. I did not get the chance to watch WCW while it aired but I caught nearly 90% of it later on. It may be that while I saw WCW and Sting in 2005-2007, I was not that entertained by the wrestling product as such but still- Rick Rude entertained me a lot more.

Rick Rude is one of the all-time greats to have the total talent package of appearance & memorable wrestling attire, charisma, mic skills / ability to work the crowd and draw a strong reaction, and in-ring ability.

Are you basing this fact entirely on face paint consumption?

Ravishing Rick Rude. He had it all in the ring and he was much cooler than Sting was. He's Simply Ravishing OWWW!

No based on the fact that I actually watched both of their careers. Not just go back and watch footage. I remember NWA becoming WCW. I remember Sting's first coming in. Funny enough I think that Sting came to NWA around the same time that Rude came to the WWF. I was around 10 or 11 so I remember it clearly.

I liked Rude and during the time I actually liked him more. But over the years when Rude was fading into obscurity Sting began to thrive. He was a much bigger draw then rude despite having lesser mic skills Sting made up for it in Charisma.

Sting is a living Legend and may end up the first person inducted into the WWE hall of fame despite never wrestling there.

shhhh, might wanna keep that part in bold a secret from guys like Verne Gagne, Nick Bockwinkel, Eddie Graham, Gordon Solie and others, they'd probably be quite surprised to find out they apparently wrestled for WWF/E

and by "Rude fading into obscurity", do you mean "retired from a serious back injury"?

Shut up, man, he was watching wrestling when you were still in diapers! Show him some respect!

Don't forget, obscurity also means appearing on both RAW and NITRO in the same night with 2 of the most known stables in professional wrestling (nWo and DX) more than 3 years after your last match, managing Curt Hennig for a period of time in WCW, and was rumored to be training for a return prior to his death.

That fucker definitely faded.

It was always amusing seeing a girl's face on Rude's crotch, but when he had his face and Savage's on his kneepads at Wrestlemania 7 I suddenly lost interest.

Your point is understood but much more needs to be said. The WWE recognize wrestling lineage. It traces its roots to NWA, CWC and the AWA. I guess it would go against my own logic then since Sting is a NWA/WCW wrestler. But in the end he will end up in the HOF along with Rude.thi

and how can this guy mention a back injury when he returned from that.

And him joining NWO was when they were fading aswell when infighting became their undoing. And Rude wasn't even a major factor.

Rude was attitude era before the attitude era. Still Sting is solid, both are great rasslers. I just liked Rude more bc his promos were funny.

I have to say Rude, because he was a real cool heel. Great look, phyisque (at a smaller scale than many of his co-horts), great wrestling ability, great talker, the whole nine yards.

It's a damn shame he wasn't WWF or WCW World Champion (although he was the first World Champion of WCCW, but it was out of spite of Jim Crockett, Jr. not wanting the NWA World title defended in Dallas anymore, just his territory, which was why WCCW broke away from the NWA in 1986.)

Rude did win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, making his intentions clear on August 28, 1993, when he was the guest on then-champion Ric Flair's "A Flair For the Gold" talk segment. Rude defeated Flair for the title in September 1993 at Fall Brawl. As WCW had recently withdrawn from the NWA, WCW lost the rights to continue using the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. WCW created their own championship, dubbing it the WCW International World Heavyweight Championship, which Rude lost to Hiroshi Hase on March 16, 1994 in Tokyo, Japan. So at least he had that!

Damn that was pretty close for a 2nd round match up. Rick Rude would have been a multi-time world champion if heels held championships more in the 80s-90s. He should have won at SummerSlam '90. Fuck the Ultimate Warrior.
