He died 8 years ago tomorrow. That's why I made the tribute thread. Made the OP in a bit of a rush. Just add a video, match, or any funny moment with Eddie.

Never understood his popularity. Always found him extremely annoying.

One of the worst blade jobs I've seen during that match. Wasn't really much of a fan of his but did enjoy his 'lie cheat steal' gimmick.

He was the Mexican Bret Hart, that's why he was so popular.

While I don't have any ultra assinine, or negative things to say about Eddie. The only thing I remember about him was him hugging Benoit to end Wrestlemania. Great moment. I know both of them worked their asses off to get there.

Okay as I type this I remember the stable they had, when they came to WWE. Him Benoit, Malenko....were they the scoundrels?

In my opinion, Eddie Guerrero is a lot like Shawn Michaels in that his 2nd run in WWE not only "saved" his legacy from being "great worker that let his demons get the best of him" to a beloved icon. His death was tragic and cemented him as one of those elite names to most long-term wrestling fans. Overall, Eddie's career was good to great matches. His last couple of years in WWE were special. I don't think it is slanderous to say that he is beloved to "hardcore wrestling fans" just like Shawn Michaels, Curt Hennig, etc. are but you'd be lucky if any casual fans or former fans could tell you anything about him off the top of their head because he wasn't ever at the level of a Hogan, Austin, Rock, Cena, etc. There is nothing wrong with that as there are only a handful of people at that level. It is no different than with sports where casual fans only know the huge names/teams while "true" or "hardcore" fans know almost every good player and the small market teams as well as the large market teams.

Eddie Guerrero was an amazing pro wrestler and I'm glad that he was able to overcome his demons and get a tremendous run before his past caught up with his body finally. I recommend everyone reads the autobiography WWE released.

Eddie was great, a hint of overrated (some people talk about him like he's in contention for "best ever") but that's what death does. He was still a top top talent, on par with guys like Jericho and so forth

I enjoyed his WCW days when Mysterio was tolerable and not anywhere near a mic or developed storyline.

Gone are the days of them wrestling over someone spilling salsa in the back or Rey finding Eddie pooping in his bag and springboarding everywhere

CSL, in your opinion, who is "the best ever"?

During any month but this, Shawn Michaels is the best performer of all time. If I was more inclined towards the "performing"/match aspect of pro wrestling, match quality, crispness, not putting a foot wrong night in/night out and so forth, it's undoubtedly him. But in reality it's the spectacle that matters most, the whole package, the entertainment aspect, the atmosphere you want to be a part of or perform in front of. I put as much, if not more stock in facials, promos, timing, mannerisms, all of the little things that are overlooked or missed or can't be replicated/taught in a wrestling class. So it has to be Hogan and it's not really very close at all. I probably lean a little either way at any given time, it depends how long it's been since I last watched Hogan/Rock I http://www.tpwwforums.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Eddie was good at getting heat from the crowd, I understand that his face run was deserved and all, but he was one of those that would of been fine as a heel forever.

he was an alright heel, was more one of those guys that people didn't really want to boo though, much better as the babyface

Him and Art Barr were one of the greatest tag teams in the 90s.

Their run in AAA Mexico was really awesome.

I love that they got Tonya Harding to manage them if only for one night

I've never really understood why people go around taking pictures of headstones. Seems a bit morbid.

The dead people are there to rest. They can't get much resting done when they have some random guy standing on top of them taking pictures of their headstone.

Court Bauer (WWE writer at the time of Eddie's death) recently said this in an interview:

It was 24 hours before he passed away, I believe. 24 hours, 48 hours, something like that. We had a call with Vince at home, and we were talking about the preliminary plans for WrestleMania. I know there’s this romanticized story about how Eddie was going to get the title, and that was the plan that he was going to get it that night or at Survivor Series. That wasn’t the plan. I think Stephanie said that, or alluded to it on the air, and that was not the plan. The plan was that he would lose, and I think they were going to return in December. We had talked about a fascinating idea; I’m not the biggest Bruce Prichard fan, but to his credit, I believe it was Bruce Prichard who pitched putting Eddie Guerrero at WrestleMania against Shawn Michaels and doing the parallels of their careers. Being the heartthrob in Mexico and this mercurial figure south of the border, and the American version being HBK. They had never really worked, and you would’ve had such a great dynamic between the two with heel Eddie versus Shawn. That’d be your “tear the house down,” high quality match at WrestleMania 22 in Chicago. Vince was like, “God damn, that’s really appealing. We could parallel their careers. What kind of footage of Eddie do we have outside of WCW? We could really do some impressive packages.”

Fuck, that match would have ruled. :(

It would have also made WrestleMania 22 worth ordering.
