Just came across this and thought I should post it.

Mrs Doubtfire sequel in the works

A sequel to hit 1993 comedy Mrs Doubtfire is underway, with Robin Williams set to star and Elf writer David Berenbaum writing the script.

The original starred Williams as an estranged father who poses as an elderly Scottish nanny in order to spend time with his children.

The Golden Globe-winning film was a huge hit, taking $441m (£262m) at the box office worldwide.

Hollywood Reporter said director Chris Columbus is also set to return.

A sequel has reportedly been in the works since 2001 but none of the drafts appealed to both Columbus and Williams, and the project has been considered inactive for years according to The Wrap.

Sally Field and Pierce Brosnan also co-starred in the original, which saw Williams using prosthetics, a wig and a dress to get into character as Mrs Doubtfire.

Berenbaum, who wrote the now classic Will Ferrell festive comedy Elf, has also worked on Haunted Mansion and The Spiderwick Chronicles.

Williams is currently starring in US sitcom The Crazy Ones and will return to the big screen in The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, released in the US next month.

His performance in Mrs Doubtfire was recognised with the best actor in a musical or comedy award at the 1993 Golden Globes - beating Sleepless in Seattle star Tom Hanks - while the film itself took best musical or comedy film.

So, what are people's thoughts on this?

Anyone think it'll be good? Or even bad?

Hook 2, Jumanji Reborn or GTFO

I'm not a fan of those crossdressing movies, they inspired Tyler Perry, who is one of the worst in Hollywood

It's at least 15 years too late and even then I don't think it would have been an especially good idea.

It's 20 years later.

Forget it.

Why does this have it's own thread?

Cool King

So we can discuss how bad it's going to be?

But yeah, this should probably just be merged with the 100,002 Replies thread.

This deserves its own thread because it will be the single most game changing motion picture of our time.

Used to love Mrs Doubtfire and Robin Williams in general when I was a kid. No idea if I'd even still enjoy it now other than for nostalgia. After watching The Crazy Ones (mostly for Sarah Michelle Gellar), I don't really want to see much of him any more. He's pretty much still only doing the whole funny voice schtick, and I dunno, doesn't seem to hold as much weight as it used to.

Robin Williams is the saving grace of that show. That and the ditzy thing.

Robin Williams is immensely creepy in every role he's ever done, it's like he just can't help it. Keep him away from the children.

Fuck the original was bad. But for the generation that saw it as kids they love it. Another case of nostalgia coloring.

To be fair Williams doesn't really need make-up/prosthetics to look like an old lady these days.

Mara Wilson (aka Mrs Doubtfire's sweet little daughter) herself said on twitter that she's against the idea of a sequel and doesn't want any part of it... Good for her..
