Surprised this doesn't have a thread of it's own.

How many posters have the game?

I have created a tournament on the offchance a few of us have it.

TPWW Championship. Every Sunday Sunday SUNDAY at 7pm UK time, which is 11am on the westcoast of the US and 2pm on the eastcoast. It runs for 3 hours each week but is accessible anytime for unranked TPWW only races. Also has its own private Miiverse forum.

Had a bash at it, was stolen away for a birthday gift though. I would rather be humbled by people I know than random Japanese kids though so might join your tournament.

What's your Nintendo Network name? I only have Kalyx and Hasney from TPWW in my friend list. I'm unsure how many people even have a Wii U here.

Played for the first time this weekend. Very impressed. Seems an odd decision to have ALL the Koopalings; not a complaint just didn't realize there was that kind of demand for them or whatever.

It's cool they're in but I'm sure it's roster padding so characters like Birdo, Diddy etc can be sold later as either DLC or Amiibo figures.

I'd rather have the Koopalings as padding over the baby and metal characters as padding.

For those in Europe/UK, the free Mercedes DLC car pack arrives on August 27th. A patch is also expected to arrive soon for all regions.

Mario Kart 8's upcoming Mercedes-Benz DLC will be available in the UK from 27th August, Nintendo has announced.

The free add-on contains three cars - the previously-shown Mercedes-Benz GLA, plus the 1950s 300 SL Roadster and the 1930s Silver Arrow.

Nintendo is also taking the opportunity to bring some fan-requested tweaks to the game, such as the option to display course maps on your TV screen.

A new stats page will show you your total number of coins, your online win-loss record and your favourite racer.

Mario Kart 8 will now save your most-recent kart settings between play sessions - so there's no more setting up your racer every time you load the game.

The menu options for "Next Race" and "Watch Highlight Reel" will be switched - a much-requested change by fans - and you'll be able to alter options for other user's highlight reels to watch different characters or events.

Finally, online multiplayer stability will also be improved.

A bunch of potential DLC stuff was supposedly discovered by hackers recently. Only images were found but could give an idea of what Nintendo could be planning for future DLC for the game.

Luckily, though, Nintendo’s latest racer could still see some real downloadable content thanks to a group of curious hackers discovering “ym_CupIconDLC_130x130^h.bflim" in the game’s code.

But if the words “CupIconDLC” aren’t convincing enough, the actual images of four cup logos found in the game’s code were revealed (which can be seen below). The icons show a Yoshi’s Egg, a Shine Sprite, a Boo, and a Blue Shell - and if legit, racers could have a total of 16 new tracks on their hands. Fans have speculated the icons could represent difficulty of the cup; Yoshi’s Egg being the easiest, and the Blue Shell the hardest.

http://www.chadsoft.co.uk/preview/DLCAllCups.png

What’s more, according to the hackers’ post on the Mario Kart Boards, “there are 16 full size graphics of 12 Marios on the start line of Mario Circuit with the word ‘SAMPLE’ plastered across. All of these images are labeled “DLC” as well and are probably placeholders that may one day be replaced with brand new track images.”

The post also mentioned the team discovered potential plans for Mii costumes, noting the likes of Shy Guy, and Yoshi.

DLC!

Each Add On Content pack will contain two new cups, each with four courses, which, in total, increases the number of available courses by 50 per cent. The Add On Content packs include classics like Wario's Gold Mine from Mario Kart Wii, as well as new courses, some taking place in the worlds of The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. New vehicles will also arrive with each pack, including the Blue Falcon kart representing the F-Zero franchise in the first AOC pack.

Mario Kart 8 Pack 1 - Released: November 2014

Pack 1 includes:

3 Characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link
4 Vehicles
8 Courses
Mario Kart 8 Pack 2 - Released: May 2015

Pack 2 includes:

3 Characters: Villager, Isabelle, Dry Bowser
4 Vehicles
8 Courses
As a bonus for purchasing both packs - as a bundle or separately - you can get eight different-coloured Yoshis and eight different-coloured Shy Guys that can be used right away.

It's going to be weird playing as Link in a car or on a bike.

I wonder if Zelda and AC themed weapons would be too much. Pitfalls from AC to hide on the track and the hookshot from Zelda to drag you towards whoever you catch with it or reel them back to you to close the gap.

Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach?

As if three variations of Mario and Peach weren't already enough.

I am assuming though that the different coloured Yoshi's and Shy Guy's won't be like the various Mario's and Peach's, but will basically be just a case of selecting either Yoshi or Shy Guy and then selecting a colour.

Also, I will add that Dry Bowser looks pretty cool.

I get the feeling that this could be the beginning of them slowly introducing characters to the franchise that are outside of the Mario Universe. Maybe we'll see this franchise be pretty much like Smash Bros. but on wheels, in the future.

Mario Kart 8 is great, but as fun as it is, I can't help but have a slight "been there, done this" feeling.

This DLC is great news, and I'm hoping they take it to the next level with 9, and just make Nintendo Kart or something, and have all new power ups, tracks, and characters from all their franchises.

Doing the dance of joy right now, with the chances of all this happening looking better.

Unlike certain games, won't be allowed to race in matches involving DLC stuff if you didn't purchase or download it. Nintendo also tweaking some online options to lessen those potential problems.

The company told me that before hopping online, players have the option to only be matched with players with the DLC. The also applies to tournaments. If someone doesn't own the DLC, it's okay. The player doesn't need to leave the room, but everyone will have to ditch the DLC and only play with on-disc content.

Update to the DLC racing issues as Nintendo clarifies only DLC tracks will be unplayable for those who don't download the DLC packs. Can still be in the same races with people who have DLC characters.

According to VentureBeat, characters from the DLC will appear to players who haven't paid for the DLC. That's encouraging. You just can't experience the new tracks, which seems pretty reasonable. They're the equivalent of new maps.

Nintendo revealed the upcoming pack of tracks that will be available with Mario Kart 8’s upcoming DLC Pack 2.

Mario Kart fans will have the chance to play the new 200cc class at no charge, but the second DLC pack must be purchased to play these new tracks.

The tracks are:

Old

Baby Park
Ribbon Road
Neo Bowser City
Cheese Land

New

Nature Road
Big Blue
Lingling Metro
Animal Crossing

The second DLC pack also comes with the new Streetle, City Tripper, P-Wing and Bone Rattler vehicles. Villager in boy and girl form, Isabelle and Dry Bowser join the roster as playable characters.

Arrives on April 23rd and costs $7.99 to buy the DLC pack by itself or $11.99 as part of the DLC bundle. Besides the 200cc class, several more free costumes will also be available as part of new Amiibo support for the game.
