I thought if they were gonna have nash end the streak then the next step should be Berg chasing Nash and eventually dismantling the nWo

Probably would have waited another 6 months or so. Not sure who I would have had end it in mid 99 but if it was going to be killed in 1998 then Halloween Havoc Vs Page would have been the time to do it.

I would have told Goldberg to do comedy just this once and feud with Jericho, obviously have him win. However, give Jericho enough offense to make people say "Hey, this obnoxious jerk is something." Then move Jericho up to a US Title feud and have Goldberg destroy nWo once and for all.

Then have had Scott Steiner end the streak.

I definitely would have ended Goldberg's streak. Would have messed that dude up and hollowed his skull.

They could've let the streak go on for another year. There was no reason to end it. Goldberg was white hot and really, if you think about it, he didn't have anything else going for him besides the streak, so taking it from him evaporated his "image." After the streak he never really did anything of note.

No. If the streak didn't end wcw would still be around today. He'd be like 3065-0

Build up DDP like they did coming closer than anyone to beating Goldberg at Halloween Havoc 98. DDP almost lets it eat him alive. They announce the winner of the WW3 battle royal will face the World Champion at Starrcade 98. Goldberg beats Kevin Nash to retain at WW3 and DDP overcomes the odds to win WW3 and go to Starrcade. DDP is the only man to ever win War Games and WW3 in the same year. They have an epic match where DDP kicks out of the spear and counters the Jackhammer into a Diamond Cutter in mid-air. 1-2-3!

WCW royally fucked up by waiting until April 99 to put the belt on DDP. DDP was the hottest thing in wrestling for a period of time.

Yes but not the way WCW did it nor how they handled it afterwards.

Goldberg losing wouldn't have been as bad had WCW handled the aftermath a lot better. Goldberg never got another reign nor any real meaningful revenge. The Fingerpoke of Doom was just a really cheap way to get the belt back on Hogan and not worry about possibly losing twice to Goldberg in a row.

I don't remember much of WCW after Goldberg lost, it made no sense for him not to be gunning after Nash (and Hogan)

That was the original plan - it started with Goldberg beating Scott Hall in a ladder match at Souled Out - getting his revenge on the man who screwed him at Starrcade. It was all supposed to build toward Goldberg's rematch - but then he punched through a limousine window, injuring himself badly enough to be taken off TV.

Didn't that happen the year after? After they reformed the nWo?

Yeh, the limo punch was the end of 1999, a full year after the loss at Starrcade.

The Goldberg chasing the nWo was the biggest misread the company ever made. When Goldberg beat Hogan, that should have been IT for the nWo. New era.

I quite love the idea mentioned above of Steiner being the guy to break the streak. In March-April 1999 he was really picking up steam, and it was obvious they needed to make new stars, and Scott Steiner was the best candidate they had. Didn't have to win clean, but bragging rights forever.

But I only would have done it had it felt right. They captured magic with the truly unbeatable babyface act in Goldberg, and they flushed it away without any rhyme or reason, other than to do it because the jackals were trying to use him to get themselves over.

I don't have the necessary set of skills to end Goldberg's streak in 1998.

Lol, a couple of people saw the Kevin Nash shoot video....

You can hear that the crowd is pretty split in this video, so there is some validity that the crowd was kinda turning on Goldberg. I think Starrcade was the right place to do it. It was the biggest show of the year, in the main event, against a 7 ft tall guy who was one of the companies biggest draws, and it takes multiple men and the use of a cattle prod to beat him still keeps your juggernaut somewhat "strong". The problem came when the WCW never "rebuilt" him after he lost. The match with Hall wasn't bad at Sold Out (especially considering I read Hall was drunk off his ass) but after that he went back to squashing people. He took some time off to film Universal Soldier 2, then came back... and kept squashing people. The gimmick never "evolved" and that's one of the things that hurt WCW in the end.
