View Full Version : Underrated finishers.

Basically, mention your favorite finishers that aren't as heralded as other match enders, but are definitely devastating.

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EcDrM9lUWUc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Billy Robinson used the Backdrop Backbreaker as his finisher in the US especially, and holy hell does it look vicious. And you really can't say that about many of the variations.

And what finishers do you like that are unheralded?

It's nothing massively devastating, but I've always liked the Widowmaker that Sean O'Haire use to do.

Random fact: I stole this finisher for myself, but named it the "Five Mile Dropout". A Shark Attack 3 reference.

Nope, just a wrist lock. A very brutal wrist lock, but a wrist lock nonetheless.

And it DEFINITELY fits the bill.

Wait, isn't that the unnamed jobber that was DY's tag partner on RAW last night?

And top rope flying elbow drops used to end matches. Now, even the guys who used to end matches with them (like Shawn) don't even anymore.

<font color=goldenrod>Crack 'Em in the Mouth (Deuce 'n Domino's finisher) was pretty awesome and one of the many things I liked about that team.

With the opponent in a seated position, Domino holds the opponent's head in place while Deuce gets some momentum, goes off the ropes, and then runs at the guy full force with a boot to the mouth. It was simple but looked devastating.</font>

When did hbk ever use that as a finish?

Gold & Stardust used it as a tag team finish like once when they first debuted the Stardust character. I was hoping it would become their "Cosmic Key" finish. Jason Jordan & Tye Dillinger could use this as a tag team sign-off in NXT.

Crack 'Em in the Mouth could be used by Blake & Murphy, but I suppose they've got the running suplex/Frog Splash combo.

I really like the Rings of Saturn, and I wish someone would bust it out as a submission finish. Maybe Finn Balor?

On the topic of great submission holds, I really liked Tyson's Dungeon Lock. He's now over with the Sharpshooter as a finisher, so I can understand why they haven't had him bring it out, but it was fucking great.

I always felt like the Rock Bottom was kinda underrated. Especially in recent years it seems like it's kinda got shit on by some folks.

Not the most impressive move ever by any means but Rock's showmanship really helped make it work. And the guys he worked with usually sell it well helping to make it work.

Sure it's just a fall forward lifting side slam but by the time Rock set it up and hit someone with it, the crowd usually was ready to explode.

I dont remember HBk using the Elbow drop until 95/96. Definitely not until 94 at the earliest when Macho Man left.

Superkick started as a normal move he did at the break up but wasnt his finisher for a few years.

The Curb Stomp!

Honestly, it's a move that can be hit on any opponent, looks great (except for when Cena takes it), it's simple but effective, and would put you down in a real fight. I'd like to see Seth hit it in a few different ways (should have done a spot where he leaped off Cena's back to hit it on Brock in their Triple Threat, for example.

Perfect finisher.

I'll say this about the Curb Stomp: I hated it in NXT. Rollins had the Shiranui originally (which I love), which he replaced with a standing version (which I hate), and I felt that the Curb Stomp looked "soft." That being said, they have really built it up as a tried, tested and feared maneuver. Kudos to all involved for that.

Bad News Gertner

I hate the Curb Stomp as well. Not as much as I hate thr Spear as a finisher. It's a lazy, boring finisher.

Mr. Nerfect
02-24-2015, 09:12 AM
The Spear on the right guy works. Roman Reigns using it I don't hate. Rhyno using it I don't hate. Edge really tried his hardest to make it "his thing," so it sort of worked. But even guys like Big Show and Ryback I kind of want to stay away from it. It's just not "their move."

Carmella is great, but she just looks like a bitch heel. It says something about NXT's depth that it can allow a girl to embody that presence and still be aligned with faces.

You're right about her look, which is why I've been getting the feeling that she's ultimately going to turn on Enzo and Cass and side with Blake and Murphy in their upcoming feud. I'd be OK with that.

Mr. Nerfect
03-01-2015, 11:02 AM
First time the two teams fight, have Blake & Murphy retain with a roll-up -- maybe some tight-holding shenanigans. There's enough of a claim for Enzo & Cass to get another shot. But Carmella has been sold on Blake & Murphy being her meal ticket, and she dumps Enzo & Cass during their second shot, and helps Blake & Murphy retain again.

Build-up the third match as being something deeply personal between the two sides. And have Blue Pants in the corner of the challengers.
