We all have wrestler deaths that hit a little too irrationally close to home, just because we loved them so much. For me, that was Eddie Guerrero exactly ten years ago today. Eddie had become my favorite wrestler, by this time, and I honestly believe he was one of the best fully rounded performers out there. I was genuinely distraught when I found out he'd died and saddened over several days.

It seems silly that someone you don't actually know could cause such a reaction, but Eddie did with me. Hard to believe it's already been ten years.

I don't really miss him. I just never got Eddie's appeal.

No lie, I pretty much stopped watching Smackdown for YEARS after Eddie's death. I just didn't "see the point" anymore. I still don't watch Smackdown regularly to this day.

Something clicked for Eddie just before his death. He found a new gear as a performer. He was penciled in to face Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 22, believe it or not. That would have been a hectic match.

Dunno how true it is; I've always taken it with a huge grain of salt, but I recall hearing/reading somewhere that he was actually to have taken the WHC off Batista around the time of his most unfortunate passing.

I think that rumor started when Stephanie McMahon said something about it, but she would later clarify that it was taken out of context. The plan was to have Batista and Eddie work together, but I'm not sure they were going to take the belt off Bats, and probably would have just segued into the Shawn Michaels feud. Court Bauer was talking with Alex Greenfield on one of their podcasts about it, and Vince McMahon vs. Bret Hart was also penciled in for that WrestleMania.

A Bret Hart return match in Chi town? Christ that crowd would've shit itself. Eddie v Shawn could've been about as great a match as you could've booked at the time.

Probably the highest on my list of dream matches.

I never noticed it before but Brian Hebner's facial expressions when he's about to take the bump are priceless as fuck.

Just listened to Jericho's latest podcast where they talked a lot about Eddie, some real funny times they had.

Nobody should have to be bullied by their terrible music.
