I really don't understand.

I don't really "get" Adam Cole either. I've seen enough of him in ROH for a solid sample size, and he's always just been "meh". He's a good promo, I'll give him that. But he looks like someone's little sister, and I really haven't been impressed with too much of him in the ring. What am I missing? I WANT to like him. Seems like it would be fun.

I went to an indie show where his girlfriend was wrestling. It was in a middle school gym. He was pissing next to me in the short short urinal. Wore a fanny pack and short blue shorts like a hipster fuck.

My son is the one who told me who it was....

I don't know whats so great about him either..his fashion sense is lacking.

You had to have known I wasn't talking about his fashion sense.

C'mon, I know there are some big Adam Cole fans here. Tell me about him.

Saw him at a ROH show that showcased more entertaining standout performances from O'Reilly/Fish, War Machine/Beer City Bruisers, Lio Rush and Dalton Castle. The crowd was red hot over Cole coming out and doing the Babay thing. Other than that I forgot what he did that night

Nothing. He's the worst guy in his own stable even.

No idea why HHH has always had a hard on for him and has been chasing him for years. He's good enough in lots of areas, but doesn't excel in any of them.

I've never really examined his work, but I've seen nothing that hooks me from a surface-level. He looks like he should be the whinging lead singer in a really shitty band. People apparently like his heel character, the playboy one. Something about it doesn't connect with me though -- like he's just some indy dude trying to be a playboy.

Kyle O'Reilly is worse though. The dude is like someone with no charisma trying to do a Daniel Bryan impersonation.

His confidence mainly I'd say. He's benefited from hanging around guys like Kevin Owens and Matt Hardy while in ROH and I wouldn't be shocked if KO helped get him signed. Also piggybacked of the Young Bucks prior to leaving. I did enjoy the Kingdom with him Bennett and Taven. Only 3 time ROH Champion as well but that last reign was probably a last attempt to get him to stay.

Story time with Adam Cole Bay Bay is probably a big reason why live crowds like him as he's interactive. Not real flasy in the ring but he's not a bad wrestler at all. Agree he's not the biggest guy and don't think he's main event caliber on the main roster but should really fit in there in NXT.

Agree, never been a fan of his. I don't mind him and Fish teaming but I just don't buy him when he cuts a promo. Like he's trying to hard and doesn't come of natural in my opinion. Plus I hate his look.

He reminds me of a shrunken Shawn Michaels. He's got a very odd body... Why can't he just hit the fucking gym and gain some weight, this is rasslin goddamnit!

That might be it he's just like HHH

Actually, I can kind of see the Adam Cole/HHH comparison. A lot of "forced charisma" there. Of course, forced charisma is a bit of a paradox.

I don't follow, that's actually something great about him. No one else has held it more than twice.

Title reigns aren't really a good indicator of how good someone is. Especially when they happened on the indies.

Mr. Nerfect

Yeah, it just means he's been booked to win it three times. Which you could argue means he's bee trusted to be given that accolade, but you could also argue that it just means there was no one better around and he wasn't good enough to stand out before then, whereas everyone else got plucked.

I mean, look at the title reigns of Jeff Jarrett or Triple H. Clearly not a reflection of their skill level -- just the position they were put in.

Hah, I know it's not the guy, but this dude is also named Adam Cole and this is totally what that wrestler is gonna look like if he discovers drugs.

I disagree as you have to be good to hold a title, especially a world title. To be the only 3 time ROH Champion, ROH obviously seen something in him and he's only 28. Now I could understand if he had 1 reign and it wasn't all that great but that's not the case. That was only part of my post and I mentioned plenty of other things about him. He's not really great at anything just good but has benefited from backstage politics in my opinion. He always seems to be with a group as well which hasn't really shown what he can do on his own a whole lot.

I've said he's not great, he's just good and that has carried him this far. He also seems to be quite political backstage and benefits from it. What does David Arquette have to do with anything though?

Kind of a weird example as I said I'd understand that thinking if it was just one title reign that sucked but the guy has the most in company history.

I'd take Arquette as a world champ over Jarrett any day.

Something really annoying about that dude.

And. I. Don't. Understand. Why.

I understand that at least ROH thinks he's good, but I personally don't see it. I'm looking for people who are a fan of his work to tell me what it is that they personally like about him that I'm just not seeing. I don't need his fucking indy accolades.

As I've said most of that is probably him hanging with the right people backstage and benefiting from it. He understands fan interaction and has his basic catchphrases. He's good ot great and on the Indy scene that all he really needed to be. I think he'll be fine in NXT but have no clue how he will do on the main roster.

Not sure what exactly your asking for man. I've told you everything I can think of. There just isn't alot there and I've probably seen more of him than anyone else on the site, watch ROH every week. He's always been in a group and just not alot to go off of him just doing him. That's why I believe he's benefited from alot of backstage politics. Youtube him I guess.

I've watched plenty of ROH too. Didn't really get him there either.

Mr. Nerfect
10-04-2017, 07:03 PM
The point about crowd interaction falls down too. Crowds are changing quite rapidly, because the WWE has chased away certain types of fans. You know who is really good at playing audiences? For real? Primo Colon. Dude came from Puerto Rico where being good with crowds had to be a thing you knew how to do, even if your daddy ran the place. Guy would stir people up on fucking Superstars if he was working heel. Unreal.

Now? No one really gives a shit about the stuff that used to work in wrestling, because no one is allowed to do it anymore. It's all very "soft." Adam Cole might be able to say one thing over and over again and get people to copy it, but that's not the same as crowd manipulation. Not really. And Cole has never worked in front of sizable crowds regularly?

I dunno -- I'm not articulating my point well. Basically, wrestling audiences have changed. Guys who knew how to get people engaged have trouble doing it now, because sincere interest is gone. Now there are just ironic fans clapping and chanting to easy things almost randomly. Good luck with that.
