I gotta go full Jim Cornette because I am a hot little Wendy's baked potato right now. This is in regards to last night's NXT tapings.

I'm gonna start this by saying I don't care about the constant chanting, I don't care about the self-aggrandizing cheekiness (the 'show your socks' business, etc.) If you wanna nerd the fuck out, go right ahead. But god dammit, if you don't really like NXT that much and you think NJPW/ROH etc. is just SO much better to the point where you are literally spending the entire 3.5 hour NXT taping shitting on everything you see out loud for all in your section to hear just to pop your pathetic little group of physically disgusting bottom-feeder friends, FUCK YOU. No one's holding you at gunpoint. You shrill, mother fuckers know exactly who you are. They mocked every move, every match. Nonstop for over three hours. Mocked every entrance song, mocked every word of every promo. Loud as fuck. Zero originality, zero funniness. It absolutely ruined the experience for every person in our section. Cheer/boo whoever the fuck you want, but don't make the experience, for everyone else, about you throughout the entire damn show. And yeah there are kids there.

Not to mention, they didn't even stop at being simple assholes. Nope they gotta be fucking edgy and cross into the homophobic and sexist bullshit as well. I know these particular gross humanoid motherfuckers weren't the only ones doing this, but it should be said. STOP CAT-CALLING THE FEMALE ANNOUNCERS AND TALENT. I know women usually only exist on your computer-screens but for the love of Christ. None of us want to watch, in real time, sexual repression being acted out in real life. Using a tired, campy, sarcastic tone and saying shit like "Oh this is chain wrestling at its finest!" because two women having a match in Developmental missed a spot isn't cool. Using a terrible Shrek voice to mock Drew McIntyre because he's Scottish and speaks with an accent isn't cool and screaming "That's fucking gay!" at Velveteen Dream isn't cool. Terrible look, not something I wanna be associated with.

If this is how you enjoy wrestling, do it from your home and stay THE FUCK out of Full Sail, motherFUCKers.

I go to every taping I can and just want to see a good show. We in Orlando are lucky to have some of the best wrestling in the world around us all the time and some people treat it like crap.

I was on there and the guy behind me kept bitching about the whole time and the guy next to my buddy kept saying sexist shit. And the guy yelling Kairi can’t understand English? Or the guy who yelled how he like the announcers dress? Or the ones that kept chanting “table” completely disrespecting to performers busting their asses?

Last night during the Cole match, I got frustrated and yelled “you’re ruining this for the rest of us” at the guy that kept yelling “Adam Cole BayBay” constantly over and over again the entire freaking match.

During Aleister Black's first promo he would not shut up. Initially he got semi-respectful shushes. His response was to start doing "What?" chants, at which point people were telling him, verbatim, "shut the fuck up." As you can imagine, this did nothing to dissuade the guy and he kept going. Giving him attention made it worse in truth. He claimed we were all "triggered and couldn't handle the heat."

I've been to a handful of tapings. I heard a fan shout "Show us your penis!" at Peyton Royce, and they ended up cutting the crowd mic when it aired. He waited until her music just ended and it was quiet in the arena.

Fans in general are all like this these days. Go to any show any where in the states. This is what you get. They pay money to shit on the product and act like they're above despite spending their money on it.. I do not believe the business will survive the death of kayfabe, we had a period post kayfabe where it was hot shotting and it lead to the boom of the 90s but the busines cant follow that period of hot shotting and now that all marks are these toxic marks like the ones described the business has an experation date...shit fans, shit industry. IT's not long for this world.

Going to say no but they've been attracting a lot more of the vile and really terrible type of fans in recent years. Same for indies starting to have this sort of issue pop up more especially within the past year or two.

Have zero issue with people wanting to have some fun with chants but once it starts to leer into the racist/sexist range, then its no longer about wanting to have fun but to be dipshits instead.

Damn....just read another account of fans being weird/overbearaing. Some guy comes to NXT shows and starts singing either Nia Jax or Bayley’s theme music for every entrance, male or female, the whole show.

Yeah. I've seen a few indy wrestlers bemoan crowds that boo the faces and cheer the heels as totally ruining the show. I really don't know that I agree with that so long as the fans are actually reacting to the matches instead of just shitting on everything everyone is doing.

When crowds chant "WE ARE AWESOME!" or shit like that to get themselves over, they can fuck off. Same with the homophobic shit.

Ironic fandom is a killer, I'm telling ya. Post-kayfabe shit. Comedy wrestling. I get that Will Ospreay thought he was doing the right thing by yelling at that fan, and whatever, but I hope he appreciates why his shit attracts people like that. You put on wrestling for neck-beards, you're going to get neck-beards.

I feel like they got progressively worse...... at first I really liked the NXT crowd and how they didn't just poop on everything and actually got loud and involved in segments/matches.

But then they got worse with their singing, and their TWO.... SWEET...... also seemed like in general they started getting less into things, and more concerned with themselves.....

They did have a pretty ridiculous moment a little while ago where crowds would be very quiet not because they bored or solely focused on just watching but because they wanted to hear Mauro Ranallo call spots.

Apparently Mauro's yelling habit as an announcer is due to him really getting excited or marking out whenever something really good would happen. Lead to moments where the crowd would hush others if they were too loud during those times.

Frank Drebin

If it wasn't for those crowds, the post-mania shows wouldn't have the one or two markout moments that we've come to expect and love. "You suck Cena" chants at Nikki Bella and the like are just desperate attempts to out-do other chants which has nothing to do with the show that you paid to see.

I also agree with Lock Jaw in that Full Sail seemed "into it" at first but have almost become spoiled with what they've had and forgotten that its supposed to be a fucking developmental brand. Now that they don't know what to do with new people they don't know much about, they suck their own cocks.

The TakeOver crowds I've been at in Brooklyn have been mostly good (but still lots of annoying people... but is less noticeable due to the way larger crowd obviously) while the SummerSlam or Raw crowds in Brooklyn have been the most annoying wrestling crowds I have ever been around in my life...

Yeah..... Them making NXT almost "too good" is kind a curse too......

Like they spoiled the fans for so long with hot new signings and big name indy guys....... so now they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for new signings to try to make things exciting instead of focusing on what made NXT great to begin with which was evolving and growing the characters and rasslers they already have.

Faces being booed and heels being cheered undermines the performers' ability to get themselves over as whichever they are. When that starts happening, it can negatively affect their in-ring performance and further cause the show and/or product to suffer.

Then they need to do a better job of making people cheer the faces and boo the heels.

It's not the crowd's job to pretend they like/hate something. It's the company's job to make them like/hate something.

I agree with the larger point, but you'd think "smart" fans would be smart enough to play along for their favorite heels. They've got to wink and let everyone know how "smart" they are for not knowing that the dumb wrestling is fake.

When it comes to people not giving a shit, I blame the product; but I think some fans are just people you wouldn't want to be on a car ride with. But the product has attracted them. So yeah -- make things better and stop catering to these fuckwits.

Smart fans in 2017 can smell the bullshit and are more inclined to call out the bullshit rather than play along with it. (The bullshit being "This guys is a face. And that is literally all the effort we're going to put into that story.")

I've said it before. They COULD make faces who appeal to both smarks and kids/casual fans and heels who both hate. It just requires good booking that they can't be bothered with nowadays because the business is dead and the only company who can bring it back is content with just leeching off the scraps and taking what they can from the old people who still hang on to "rasslin' because it's rasslin'" and kids who will watch anything bright lights and violence.

Mr. Nerfect
10-07-2017, 03:44 AM
Yeah, I agree. They're trying to fit square pegs into round holes. If they listened to fans they'd be able to identify who are the faces and who are the heels in their story very easily. And I do agree -- they put very little effort into actually going deeper than "This dude smiles; he is nice." There are like stock characteristics they associate with being a good guy and being a bad guy, and they just have guys switch between face and heel and do those things. Worse though is that fans seem to think this is the way it is supposed to go. I had an argument with someone recently who was trying to tell me that heels are always supposed to cheat because they are the bad guys. Duh. I wanted to pull my hair out.

WWE might want to separate themselves from professional wrestling. Why? I dunno -- I think it's dumb, because the professional wrestling tricks work in movies, politics, boxing and MMA. But they want to remove all the heat, credibility and violence out of their product. That's fine. They want to tell "stories" and be "entertainment." The frustrating thing about that is that they are shit at it. Without thinking about faces and heels for a second, they fucking suck at creating a protagonist. Their stories are hollow and make no sense.

Something I agree with Destor on: Roman Reigns is a heel. People boo him, and people that pay money are doing so to see him get his ass kicked. That is what a heel is. They don't want him to be a heel; they very clearly want him to be the protagonist of the WWE story. But he is a heel, because being a heel is an effect you have on people. If you come out smiling and kissing and you get booed, then you are doing your job as a heel marvelously. If you come out drowning puppies and get an ovation, you are such a damn good babyface it's ridiculous. They just make things hard for themselves by fighting against the natural story there.

Mr. Nerfect
10-07-2017, 03:46 AM
I got lost on a tangent there. But basically I agree with you, and they suck at fucking booking a babyface, but they also suck at understanding how a story works from a structural point of view. There are no stakes, there is no rising action. The writers they get in to do this aren't very good at writing, evidently, or their voices are being snuffed out by people who don't get writing and character development.

It's not like WWE is bad wrestling but good entertainment; it's poorly written television.

#1-norm-fan
10-07-2017, 03:51 AM
Reigns is a "heel" to a dying breed of an audience that doesn't matter long-term. "We're going to make our living by literally pissing off our existing fan base" is not a sustainable model.

This is basically the main issue. It's not even just poorly written television. It's the worst written television. By far. And if it wasn't a niche product that could get by on its past, no network would accept this writing as worthy of a second of their time.

Oh, agreed. The Cena push diminished their audience greatly. The Reigns push will do the same thing.

I really do believe that they are skirting on their past. I think that's why things are quieter around the internet than they've ever been too. The half-life of the hangover of the Attitude era is expiring and even the people who thought they would be wrestling fans for life are too exhausted to engage with 5 hours of television that is designed to have no emotional stakes and run contrary to what they demand as fans.

Internet fans suck (even though you are probably the biggest fucking internet hipster smart fan there is). Not everything is so cut and dry.

Obviously some post mania crowds are irritating (especially in the past 3 years), but some of those original ones when it was organic were fucking awesome.

Think about it, this was during a time when crowds for the most part just sat on their hands and did fuck all unless it was saying "What". These fans actually reacted to stuff, and not in a way just to get themselves over, but more as a celebration of the whole mania experience. Of course, once they became self aware and WWE started marketing it, it started to stink.

At first, all those years ago, it was pretty cool/funny and they did help make some memorable moments in wrestling a little bit more memorable thanks to their reactions but now, I just want them to shut the hell up.

I find myself skipping the matches of certain wrestlers now because I just know that the crowd will be ruining it for me with their chants/reactions.

Man I watched him vs Dan Spivey, and I'll tell you... loved Muraco's style. Cowardly until he could opportunistically gain advantage making Spivey look like a million bucks. But when Spivey dropped the dime, Muraco beat the fuck out of him. It's standard psychology but some guys do it very well.

He's amazing. Greatest IC Champ of all time.

Okerlund can't even deal with himself. Muraco AND Heenan pop him big time.
