Lots of good stuff going down at the annual event this year.

https://www.gamespot.com/e3/

I cannot wait for info on Kingdom Hearts 3 and the new Fallout Game. I'm also excited about the prospect of more information on the Final Fantasy 7 remake.

Honestly, I'm hoping the fallout game is a smaller spin off title, and the big reveal is Star field. I've been waiting for that shit forever.

Bioware also clarified some stuff about the game being playable solo. The game still requires a constant internet connection and does not have any offline support.

During an interview with Game Informer, Bioware revealed they are currently working on plans for a new Dragon Age game while also holding out some hope that a new Mass Effect game gets made within the near future.

Another E3 and another really boring EA press conference overall. The Anthem segment at the end might have been the most ass backwards way of showcasing a major game. Even the audience seemed like they barely cared after a while.

They really need to drop having a conference and just showcase stuff at Microsoft's and Sony's or cut it down by a lot since they have way too little stuff of interest for an hour plus conference.

What I'm looking for:

Release dates for Darksiders 3 and Ace Combat 7. I've had these reserved for a little while now. Now's the time for more information.

Microsoft:

Just give me a really good reason to get an Xbox One once and for all. Lock up some exclusive titles, knock the prices down, make Xbox Live free? Sony sent Kratos off the bench and threw a punch so hard you got knocked down. Whatcha got to counter that?

Activision:

Most likely jamming Destiny 2: Forsaken down our throats along with Black Ops 4. Unless Bungie is really going all out to switch it up for Destiny 2, no interest here.

I am interested in the Spyro trilogy. My childhood's calling me.

Ubisoft:

I know Skull & Bones got pushed into 2019. Information on a beta start date and more dirt on what this is really supposed to be single player-wise is a must.

Who are they putting in the ring against Red Dead 2? Rumor mill suggests either The Division 2 or a new Splinter Cell.

AC: Odyssey will probably be revealed. Origins was one of the more strange games I've played since I both loved it and hated it at the same time.

I'm also going to assume a new title/franchise will be revealed.

EA:

So Anthem's out in February. Going up against Sony's Days Gone. I've lost some love with Bioware since they just walked away from Mass Effect: Andromeda. Great game that could be sooooooooo much more.

Sony:

Already on the up and up before the show even starts. Small tidbits of information before E3 begins, with a presser anchored by Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Last of Us 2, and Spider-Man. Add in some more exclusive titles locked in and gameplay from other games, I'm excited.

Must be tons of people already trying to get on bethesda.net to sign up for the Fallout 76 "B.E.T.A."...can get a blank page to load but nothing else.

Still though...glad there's solo play along with the announced co-op with dozens ("not hundreds, not thousands") of people...will probably lone wolf it for a while and maybe check out MP when I'm ready to step outside my comfort zone.

Also, not surprised, given the relatively short window between Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, that this is coming November 14.

LOL @ like a 5-second video with gold TES font saying "THE ELDER SCROLLS VI" to troll people who won't shut the fuck up about it. Now they know it's going to be next-gen and you get it when you get it.

Square Enix's biggest problem was the release date for Kingdom Hearts (their bread and butter right now) getting leaked early. I would argue that with Kingdom Hearts coming out in 2019 and they will try to milk that for all it's worth seeing as how it is the end of the trilogy, that the earliest we see FF7 remake is 2021. I could also see Sony announcing the official release date for the PS5 at the Sony conference tonight and then making it known that FF7 Remake won't be on the PS4.

Watched Ubisoft and Sony last night.

Ubisoft:

I honestly have no idea what they're doing with this new Assassins' Creed. Looking more and more like a RPG brawler than the stealth game it should be. No hidden blade, nothing about the Order. Wait and see right now.

The Division 2 AKA "No, we're not anything like Destiny. Honest!" If they're endgame "Raids" don't have the invisible wall up and it's just straight up matchmaking, or pre-existing co-op parties, they have a chance to pull Destiny players to this. But again, looking waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much likes Destiny now. Took me a while to put 2 & 2 together when you choose a new class at the end of the game.

Beyond Good & Evil 2. I liked what I saw.

Skull & Bones. It's going to come down to the beta if this is a good as it should be. Would have liked some actual gameplay instead of some cinematic sequences.

I give it a B.

Sony:

I liked the initial setting in the "church". But having all that built just for a musical performance and to show The Last of Us 2 hurt Sony early. Then we cut to the commentators to allow time for the transition to the main stage. Just weird.

Pre-ordering Ghost of Tsushima today. Looks like another Sucker Punch home run.

If we're tracking down the Sinister 4 (Electro, Rhino, Vulture, Scorpion) in NYC for Spider-Man and some other surprises, September can't come soon enough.

Death Stranding. What the fuck was I watching?

Hey, Resident Evil 2 got the remastered treatment. Getting released almost 21 years to the day after the original.

Apparently people are finding out again that if you linked an Epic account to the PS4 and then unlink it to play Fortnite on the Switch, the account still restricts your ability to play on non-PS devices. Supposedly its due to the terms Sony demanded and not wanting stuff bought on mobile and Xbox Marketplace to be given away for free on the Playstation Store.

Having the account linked first to the Xbox One or PC avoids this problem. Same for linking the account to multiple consoles not involving the PS4.

After getting around to watching the rest of the Smash part of Nintendo's Direct, I'd rate this year's conferences as MS > Ubisoft/Sony > Nintendo > Devolver > Bethesda > Square > EA.

Nintendo's biggest problem was they focused way too much on the new Smash to the point it should have been its own separate Direct episode. They did show a few other things I found interesting like that new Mech game, Overcooked 2, and the new Mario Party game ditching the group car.

Fallout being multiplayer is huge because Heisenberg's crew and I all love the series, and we have a blast whenever we do co op stuff, so this will get lots of play.

Topped off with star field. I love the wasteland and tamriel, but an outer space Bethesda RPG has me more excited than either of those. Its my favorite setting. The fuck do you think I'm still playing destiny for? Finally getting confirmation that's its an actual thing they are making was a personal win for me.

I keep watching the Ghost of Tsushima gameplay. I am finding it harder and harder to believe that is current gen.

Skimming through the super condensed highlights because I haven't been keeping up with any of this. Starting with Sony because it's my go to.

TLOU2, okay. Not really any more hyped, nothing unexpected.
Ghost of Tsushima has me VERY interested.
Control? Eh, didn't really do much for me in the 15 seconds I saw. Looks like Infamous, maybe.
REmake 2. Cool. Itchy. Tasty.
Is Trover a Ricky and Mort thing? Is this memes? Never seen it. I don't get it. :-\
Kingdom Hearts 3. Yeah. Standard.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THIS, KOJIMA?
Nioh 2, alright, I should actually get around to playing Nioh first I guess.
Spiderman Arkham City looks alright.

Microsoft next I guess? I don't XBONE but okay.

Halo Infinite. It sure is Halo. Halo.
Sekiro Shadows Die Twice looks good, not as WOW as Ghost of Tsushima. Bit this is from FROM and on PS4 too so yay, got my eye on it.
Kingdom Hearts 3 again (but first I guess). Yep, it's still KH3.
Fallout 76. I learned nothing from this segment except I feel like 4 x Fallout 4 = Too much Fallout for me to digest.
Devil May Cry. So might I.
Studio acquisitions seems like a big deal, probably.
Forza MMO. There's some cars. Lots of them. Driving.
Tom Clancy squad shooty game. Not my thing.
Dying Light 2 sounds like it could be interesting depending on how much weight the CONSEQUENCES actually hold.
Gears of War 5. Yep that's Gears of War there.
Man this is pretty long. And this is the highlights version. Getting bored.
Picture of Cuphead on screen for one second, DLC. Never got round to playing this, forgot all about it until now I guess. Maybe I'll pick it up on PC someday.
Cyberpunk 2077 fuck yeah!

Some details for Cyberpunk 2077 via Destructoid's hands-on impressions:

The demo starts with the character creation menu and it's our first introduction to the many ways that Cyberpunk 2077 is so very big. There's basic character stuff like hair, skin color, and facial attributes. But other tabs paint a deeper picture of who you play as. There's birth record, background check, biometric scan, and biostates. Life events like "death of a sibling" and "ran away from home" are said to influence your demeanor and maybe how others perceive you.

The playable protagonist is V, and Cyberpunk 2077 again offers plenty of freedom. V can be either male or female (our demo was played as a woman). Besides all the stuff in the previous paragraph, there are also stat categories for Strength, Constitution, Intelligence, Reflexes, Tech, and Cool. These define who you are, but this role-playing game never asks you to pick a preset class. It's more fluid, and actions throughout the course of the game seemingly eventually funnel you toward class specializations.

The later half of the demo was meant to showcase how different choices can lead to different outcomes. V was tasked with buying a spider bot from a local organization. An encounter outside their compound led to an agent giving V a currency chip with a lot of money on it. This added a non-violent option to acquiring the bot. Without doing that, it would've had to have been guns blazing.

But, because this is supposed to be a high-octane showing, things trended toward violence soon thereafter anyway. There were plenty of creative shooting moments, where V used the environment to change the battlefield. Cyberpunk 2077 gives you options in combat too. However, this is where we saw one of the neater violence mechanics: Stealth takedowns result in V jacking into the enemy's head and accessing whatever he knows to her benefit. For instance, we got a floor-by-floor overview of the entire compound and were able to take control of the security system. It pays to be prepared.

Also based on Destructoid's hands-on preview with Resident Evil 2 Remake, one of the biggest changes done involves the save system. Instead of just using the classic typewriter system, the game auto-saves progress but still allows players the ability to use typewriters for intentional saves.

Zombies are also a lot more tougher to kill than in recent games.

Ok Nintendo let's see what you got.

Daemon X Machina. I am drawing a blank.
Xenoblade 2 DLC. If I ever decide to play Xenoblade 2 I might form an opinion on this. TBD.
lol Reggie what are you talking about with your pokeballs inside pokeballs, I have no idea whats going on here and this abridged version probably doesn't help.
Fire Emblem, no idea whats going on here either.
Overcooked 2, nice, I picked up the first on Switch so will probably get this one too.
Killer Queen Black, what is this. This direct is leaving me with much confusion.
Fortnite. Oh wow at last, something I know I don't care about.
Smash Bros Ultimate. I've barely played any of this series but that's cool I guess, as long as it's not Mortal Kombat Armageddon.

Octopath Traveller wasn't in this highlight reel I just watched, but I already pre-ordered it because it looks top notch and didn't need to be sold on it further. Watched the full trailer anyway. Great. I watched it twice.

Bethesda.

Rage 2. Shooter.
Doom Eternal. Shooter.
Quake Champions. Shooter.
Prey, free DLC. Shooter.
Wolfenstein. Shooter.
Fallout 76. Entirely Online? Ugh. Shooter.
Elder Scrolls Blades. Not a shooter, but a mobile game. Come on Bethesda, what are you doing.
"Yeah we know this is all shit if you're not a fan of shooters and online play, but we have some games you might like coming out eventually, in a few years, on next gen probably, check out these logos to prove it!"

Ubisoft is the last one. I think.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 feat. Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Interesting concept, curious as to how that's going to play out.
Tom Clancy again. Still not my deal but ok.
Starlink. Main guy has really distracting nose. Oh and Starfox is here, his nose isn't as distracting. This is toys to life right? That detail seems to have been skipped but I'd have thought that ship has sailed. I have like 30 Skylanders in a box somewhere.
AssCreed, I have never been a fan of this series because I absolutely hated the first game and I forced myself to finish it because I heard the series was good but FUCK that first game was such a fucking chore. I don't think this looks bad though, heard it's going more RPG and I'm always down for that. Not that I was impressed enough to jump back in, but it didn't look bad.

Based on the ten minute highlight reels I'd place them

Sony > Microsoft > Nintendo > Ubisoft > Bethesda > EA

Obviously I didn't sit through much of the actual presentation side of things so that's purely going off the games that had me interested.

Yeup. They really like to publish a wide variety of games.

Biggest complaint online was the lack of Serious Sam 4 in their event. Guess they hyped it up too much that people thought it was going to be the main game shown and/or people being pissed it only got the post-show trailer treatment.

Starlink stole the show for me. Beyond Good and Evil 2 has a brilliant idea that i'm super curious to see. And RE2 looks fucking amazing. Fallout 76 looks great. Xbox did some nice things, nothing major to me. Sony had a lot of nice things. Death Stranding was just terrible though. I have no clue what i was watching.

Biggest disappointment is Nintendo. I dont give a fuck about Smash.

The most underrated of the show was Beyond Good and Evil 2. The concept of being able to put your own art and music in the actual online world is very very ambitious and i hope they pull it off, but if they dont completely , we'll look back on this years E3 and point to them as the ones that at least kicked that door down and tried to make it a big thing. I'm very curious to see what comes of Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Supposedly HitRecord has sort of a bad rep when it comes to actually paying people for their content.

Something about the ambiguity of their payment terms and no guarantees your work is actually protected from others using loopholes so they don't have to pay you for it.

Bunch of E3 related stuff:

* Based on Destrutoid's hands-on preview, Assassin's Creed Odyssey controls very similarly to Origins and the massive battle shown during Ubisoft's E3 event is from a new mode called Conquest Mode.
https://www.destructoid.com/assassin-s-creed-odyssey-has-some-magnificent-big-team-battles-508171.phtml

* According to Nintendo, Smash Bros Ultimate is not an enhanced Wii U port and instead is a brand new game running on a new engine "built from the ground up" for the series.
https://www.usgamer.net/articles/nintendo-smash-bros-ultimate-interview-brand-new-game-than-wii-u

* Nintendo also revealed a never before released 1980s arcade game made by Shigeru Miyamoto will be arriving on the Switch next month as part of their Arcade Archives series.
https://www.destructoid.com/unreleased-nintendo-arcade-game-sky-skipper-is-coming-to-switch-508244.phtml

* According to Avalanche Studios, Rage 2 won't be featuring any multiplayer modes with the official reason due to them wanting all the focus and effort spent on developing the game's single player campaign.
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-06-12-rage-2-is-a-strictly-single-player-game-and-itll-hit-60fps-on-console

* Activision is currently facing online backlash for their DLC plans for Black Ops 4 due to locking away all DLC planned to the game's Season Pass.
https://www.destructoid.com/black-ops-4-under-fire-over-aggressive-all-or-nothing-season-pass-dlc-plans-508205.phtml

* Based on early data, around 2 million people downloaded Fornite for the Switch within 24 hours of its official E3 announcement. Sony also recently addressed the growing backlash against them in regards to locking out existing Fortnite accounts by basically ignoring the backlash from non-PS4 console players.
