So, what's your favorite war movies? I like Saving Private Ryan of course, Hamburger Hill, Patton, and I guess Tora!Tora!Tora! would be some of my favorites.

Um the only war type movie I ever enjoyed was Apolcalypse Now. And I didn't even completely enjoy it.

Would you call Forrest Gump a type of war movie?

Grave of the Fireflies. Sure, it's an anime, but unlike most war movies, it focuses on the difficulties of surviving the war from the point of view of Japanese orphans. It's a really sad, touching film.

As for live action flicks, I enjoyed Full Metal Jacket immensely, though I thought it to be two different movies embedded into one, yet somehow works from a realistic perspective.

Hmm Kubrick, World War 1, examples made out of soldiers who won't take part in a suicidal attack might have to check that one out.

Has anyone seen both versions of Apocalypse Now? Cus I saw the Redux...maybe that's why I didn't like certain parts.

I forgot about We Were soldiers and Tigerland. :(

CHARLIE DON'T SURF!

The redux has just got bits added in that weren't left in the original. Like when they steal the Colonel's (or whatever rank he is) surfboard. There's a bit where they're on the boat in the jungle hiding from a helicopter playing a recorded message from him wanting his board back. The other bit that's obvious is where they meet up with the playgirls a while after the USO show.

Try reading the book :D: Heart of Darkness. Fabulous book, amazingly well written but god I wish I never read it, it's a task to read.
