This is kind of belated, but just an ongoing chat about games that take place.

I'll start, Nomar's grand slam against the Twins was key

Speaking of the Mariners, how do you feel now Eddie?

"Its not about the money...I am just leaving the team that developed me for nine years and whose fans adopted me because even though they don't have a lot of money, they won't pay me as much."

Eddie, you put your foot in your mouth there. You could have stayed with the team that loved you and been in contention again, but you decided to say it wasn't about the money while leaving for more money. Eddie was a solid closer, but he was never a great pitcher, every one of his saves included like two hits. We would have loved to keep him, but I hope he's enjoying the hole he's dug for himself.

I hope the Twins sign a bunch of guys to extensions during the season just to make fun of Eddie.

I think it's hilarious how every player who leaves Minnesota "wasn't really that good, anyways"

BCWWF
06-23-2004, 09:09 PM
He was better than everyone in our bullpen now besides Nathan, but by having 40 saves he was in the same group as Gagne, Wagner, Rivera, Foulke, etc, who were actually great pictures.

I'll say the same thing for two other plays Dave. David Ortiz and Chauncey Billups.

Both were good players when they were in Minnesota, and had they stayed they never would have been great. Put Ortiz in Fenway, he can totally take advantage of their walls and lineup, and now he is an MVP candidate. He wasn't that good in Minnesota, and I have no shame that we didn't keep him.

The same thing with Chauncey Billups, he was good in Minnesota, but he wasn't great. We would have liked to keep him, but he saw better opportunities in the East and went there, and did amazing things. I personally don't think he would have been as good if he stayed with Minnesota, because he fits perfectly in with the Pistons. It worked out better for both teams, because Detroit wouldn't have won without him, and we wouldn't have done anything without Sam Cassell, even if we still did have Chauncey.

If you want to dispute me and prove that Eddie Guardado actually was a great pitcher, and worth every cent he is paid, than do it. If you saw him pitch everynight for two years and give up at least one hit per save, you would know that his stats don't reflect his ability. He pitches straight fastballs, and it works for the most part, and he would have been a good asset on our team, but he decided that he was better than he is and demanded more money, and Seattle picked it up. We're still leading the division and beating the Red Sox right now, how are the Diamondbacks doing?

I'm not sure if I like Fenway or hate it. Its got the messed up walls and stuff, which can be cool cause theres a lot of hits and a lot of weird stuff happens, but at the same time it seems like Boston uses it as a huge home field advantage, cause they know where to hit it and everything. I get freaked out everytime theres a fly to right, because a normal fly has like a 95% chance of bring gone in right field. Lets just hope the Twins can win this

BCWWF
06-24-2004, 05:37 PM
That Twins/Red Sox series was overall pretty good. We had a grand slam, some great pitching, good hitting, and great defense. Exciting to say the least, too bad 90% of our games are against White Sox, Royals, Indians, Tigers :-/

The Miz

Houston gets:
Carlos Beltran CF

Oakland gets:
Octavio Dotel CP
$$$

Kansas City gets:
Mike Teahen 3B
Mike Wood RP
John Buck C

Even though Beltran is obviouslt the big name I think Oakland raped everybody here. They'd been the hottest team in baseball 2 weeks ago and got cold last week but it was due to their bullpen. Rhodes was not reliable as the closer but he is nasty as the set-up man.

The real loser in this deal is Craig Biggio. He has to change positions for the 4th time. :(

Loose Cannon
06-24-2004, 11:49 PM
Jeez, Ponson 3-10, Ouch. Great pickup for Oakland BTW. They really needed a closer.

D-Rays just smacked the Jays 19-13 too. You know, I feel sorry for the Rays, throw them in the Central and they are a 2ND place team.

The Outlaw
06-25-2004, 12:31 AM
Where will Biggio move to? Left field?

He probably won't mind, he seems to be the kind of player to change positions for the good of the team.

Loose Cannon

It seems like the Astro's are losing relievers pretty hard, first Billy Wagner now Dotel, who do they have still? It this going to come back to bite them or do they have a solid enough pen?

They still have some work to do, because I think as of right now both the Cubs and Cardinals are better teams.

God, I just turned on FSN and was like "Whoa, I thought the Twins were only playing three at Fenway, I didn't know they had another day game." But then Bert said something that set it off, and I am pissed that I just got punk'd.

Woo, Giants once again owning in the West, as weak as the division is.

HOWEVER, the Giants are beating the A's 5-0 in the second inning, courtesy of back to back homers against none other than Barry Zito.

BTW, there was that little thing about the sweep against LA - the first 4 game sweep of the Dodgers since 1935 (or thereabouts).

I'm so stoked for the rest of this season :D

Freddy Garcia to the White Sox for Miguel Olivo.

If the Twins don't make a move, I think this will work out better than Alomar and Everett did last year for the White Sox. They are already putting up a lot of runs, even with Magglio out. Olivo was good, but it won't kill them. The Twins either need to get themselves another starting pitcher, setup man, or power hitter, otherwise this could be the death of us.

Weak.

At first it was Mag for Russ, but since the Sox received Garcia, tha talks shifted from Ortiz to Andruw.

I dunno, Andruw can hit and play defense considering he has what, 6 gold gloves? Magglio is a stud at the plate but isn't that great in the field. Plus there's 4 years difference I think.

Dunno, I'd still want Andruw.

What does this have to do with the fact Giambi hasn't done a thing in two years? Except spend time on the DL.

Loose Cannon
06-30-2004, 12:05 AM
What does this have to do with the fact Giambi hasn't done a thing in two years? Except spend time on the DL.

WHAT? OKAY. First of all, last year he played 156 games and hit 41 homers and 107 RBI's. In 2002, he played 155, hit .314 and 41 homers. This year has been slow, but the year is not finished yet. Saying he hasn't done anything in two years because he was on the DL is ridiculous. You're just making stuff up.

YOUR Hero
06-30-2004, 12:14 AM

How much is he making per year again?

Loose Cannon
06-30-2004, 12:18 AM
Alright, so it's one year then, not two. Every good player has thier bad years. Yiu can't expect big numbers sometimes. Tejada had a bad year last year after he won the MVP. Thta's how things go.

I doubt very much he'll do anything this year eithr. He's hitting like .235, has seen his OBP. drop like a stone and is simply blown up. I suspect by the end of next season, he'll be gone from NY

Those numbers are inflated due to who he is and where he plays. He had better production as an A. Considering the lineup he know bats in, there is no way he should have lesser numbers now than before. Even in his first season in NY, his production, except for HR and strike outs totals, has dropped.

Loose Cannon
06-30-2004, 12:36 AM
Yeah, you have to understand though. When guys, especially stars/power hitters from another team, come to NY, thier numbers drop off. Giambi was not the only star when he arrived in NY, and he ceratinly is not the only one this year. It's hard to adjust when you are not "the man" anymore. And look at A-ROD this year, he started slow and he's not doing as well as he did last year with Texas. But I still don't know why I'm arguing this. He had one bad year, THAT'S it. We aren't even at the all-star break yet, let's finish the season first.

The Outlaw
06-30-2004, 05:58 PM
Yeah as much as I hate to agree with a Yankee fan, this is as close as it gets. :(

BTW:

Jun 30 First baseman Jason Giambi, dropped to seventh in the order as his batting average has dipped to .237, was diagnosed with an intestinal parasite. "It's not something you want to hear, but at the same time, it makes you feel good that they finally know what's going on," Giambi told Newsday. "It makes you understand why you've been getting jammed by pitchers throwing 88 miles per hour all over the place." Giambi has been vomiting and feeling weak for the past three weeks. He told Newsday that while he hasn't lost weight despite loss of appetite because he still consumes protein drinks, the illness limited his time in the weight room. "What I'm excited about is that at least we know the reason why and I can fix it," Giambi said. "It's been so hard for me just to get up for the games and it's gotten progressively worse."

The undisclosed parasite, which Giambi likely got from contaminated food or water, is being treated with antibiotics. Team doctors have told Giambi he can return to the lineup once he regains his strength, which could be as early as Wednesday.

Minnesota gets:
Barry Zito SP

Loose Cannon
07-07-2004, 07:33 PM
NOOOOOOOOOOO, Don't break up The Big Three. They Rule. Zito has really dropped though. But, in Zito's defense, it seems like every good game he pitches, the A's don't give him run support and he ends of losing. It's happened like the past 2 yrs.

BCWWF
07-07-2004, 08:15 PM
I haven't heard that, but watching SportsCenter today I was thinking to myself "Why don't the Twins look at Zito, considering we need a new SP." I never thought anything would actually happen though, knowing the Twins.

Looking at that trade, the first thing that comes to mind is that it doesn't seem like Oakland would be getting a lot, considering how good Zito had been in the past. Cuddyer is an all around solid player, the Twins biggest prospect a few years ago. Now he can play most positions on the field and hits well, but he won't be an all star I reckon. Balfour can throw pretty hard and in time I could see him being a real good RP. Maybe theres other prospects involved.

I think that would be a good trade for the Twins though (Obviously), unless Zito was just a huge huge choke, which I don't think he would be. I think that if he stays on Oakland he will break out and be good by the playoffs. Anyway.

I assume the only thing holding the Braves back from trying to dish Jones would be if it would mess up the team chemistry, because his hitting is no reason to keep him around.

With that said, I have to root for the Braves in this situation, because I can relate to their situation. Like the Braves, my track team had a great winning tradition, six straight True Team State Championships going into this year. This year we obviously weren't the best team in the state anymore, and it showed early in the season, but as the season went on everybody stepped it up and pulled it together because of the great tradition of our team, and we ended up getting 2nd place by 4 points, and if you know True Team scoring that is VERY close. That is exactly what the Braves guys are doing right now, they know they aren't the once dominant Braves, but they are no pushover, and the tradition in their organization is getting their players to play better than they normally would, and because of that I am rooting for them.

He doesn't suck. If he sucked he would'nt have won 20 games and the Cy Young a couple years ago. Zito has eben getting off to rough starts, giving up 3-4 runs in the first couple innings and the A's haven't been able to come back. If you look at his ERA after the 3rd inning it's the numbers you would epect from Zito. As soon as he figures out how to get off to a good start he'll be fine.

He's been on the DL for a while now though so he's bound to be rusty and there's a long way to go til the playoffs. He was 7-1 and went 6+ innings in 11 of his 13 starts, that's pretty reliable, especially with an offense like the Yanks' to back you up. If Mussina can get his era down a bit and Vazquez and Contreras carry on like they've been going this year that's a potentially great rotation.

Frank Thomas is pretty much out for the season, they have bad defense, and they don't have chemistry. Radke is terribly underrated aswell, he has a great ERA but no run support.

Its not going to be a run away either way, but I think the Twins will still take it in the final week because of experience and chemistry.

Shannon Stewart is now back, so now for the first time in months we have a solid 1-5 in the batting order. (Shannon, Guzman, Mauer, Lew, Hunter). Then add a fifth starter and bring back Mike Ryan, we will be right back in there. Joe Mays will be back in a month for long relief and Jesse Crain will come up when he is ok too. Once things flatten out we will be a lot better than we were in the first half, which is why I don't think Chicago will run away with it at all

Why? They just lost the Big Hurt for 2 months. Ordonez, Konerko, and Everett is one of the best 3-4-5's in the league. I know you want to pretend like the Twins are better than the White Sox cuz theyre youre team and all but its pretty obvious the White Sox are the better team. The White Sox had been leading the Twins without their best player so why would anything change now? And I dunno about you but I'd take Loaiza/Buehrle/Garland/Garcia over Santana/Radke/Lohse/Silva any day.

BCWWF
07-19-2004, 01:09 AM
Everett sucks, he is no better than Matthew LeCroy and LeCroy sucks. He missed most of the first half, but in that time he was hitting 250. He isn't the kind of guy who generates a lot of runs and he doesn't have the winning experience.

Yeah Ordonez was injured most of the first half, but so was Shannon Stewart and Joe Mauer. We haven't had a fifth starter all year, Terry Mulholland has been starting, in a few weeks we are guaranteed to have either Kris Benson or Miguel Batista because of our ample farm system.

Oh, no we just lost a series to the Royals...seasons over...Even though three of our starters didn't play and our DH is just coming back from the 60 day DL...That series meant absolutely nothing because we didn't lose any ground while playing our Triple A team.

What makes the Twins good is not having the best players, last year the White Sox had better players than the Twins, but they have absolutely no chemistry. Adding Everett is the last guy they need, he did shit for them last season and will do shit for them this season. They need to go out and get a Kenny Lofton or Ray Durham type guy back, so they have someone for Konerko to drive in.

You can think the White Sox are a great team. You can tell me that they have better players than the Twins and I would probably agree with you. When it comes down to chemistry and knowing how to win big games, the Twins have the advantage and that is why we will take the division again.

BCWWF
07-19-2004, 03:07 AM
I heard that Portland really wants a team, and the Expo's will probably stay out East.

While watching the A's vs. White Sox on Saturday, I just started thinking about it. The Giants are pretty big in the Bay Area, easilly the dominant team there. I'm not sure the A's even fill that huge stadium in the playoffs, they obviously aren't generating enough money since in the past four years they have lost Jason Isringhausen, Johnny Damon, Jason Giambi, Miguel Tejada, Ramon Martinez to name a few. I doubt they will be getting their own stadium any time soon.

Can somebody who lives in the area tell me if losing the A's and just having the Giants would really be devastating? As usual I don't really know anything about the situation in the area, but thats what it seems like from the far out perspective.

I think if Zito were on say the Royals or something, he would have way more wins right now.

A-Rod and Varitek are probably suspended.

Yeah, A-Rod and Varitek were ejected.

Tanyon Sturtze would have been killed by David Ortiz if he had gotten at him though.

Pretty crazy.

I wouldn't mess wtih Ortiz either, thank God Kapler had his hands full with Sturtze.

Dragon

Yeah, even though Sturtze is like 6'6, David Ortiz is a beast. If he got more into that fight than he did he probably would have killed Sturtze.

Sturtze is out with a brusied pinky finger on his catching hand. :wtf:

Pat Hentgen retired :wtf:

I read that earlier. I saw his start against the Yankees the other day and he was pretty awful. I didn't think he'd be retiring though.

Ortiz threw Sturtze down with one arm

Also, ARod is a baby. If he would have said that to me I would have did the same thing Varitek did.

Varitek was an idiot for shoving him and starting it off, he woulda made ARod look like more of a fool if he'd not risen to it and just let him cry like a baby til he got to 1st, Nevermind

Another blown save for Rivera. He goes the whole season blowing one save, then messes up two tries in a row.

He did that on purpose, because he wanted to get the win  :shifty:

Mark Mulder is having a shit-hot season, he's like 14-4 or something now:|

The Miz

Yeah Mulder had been the only one pitching for a while and the A's were still in it. Now Zito and Harden are pitching better and some guy named Tim Hudson is coming back. Uh oh.

Man that's some rotation! Them and the Cards right now, two best rotations going arguably.

And goddamnit, JD Drew, Juan Pierre and Jimmy Rollins just went a combined 1 for 15, that'll do my fantasy teams wonders:mad:

Mulder is the FK'N man. I remember he became my favorite pitcher in the league when I got him on my fantasy team in his 2nd season and I had no idea who he was. Then he had an awesome season and I won the league with a lot of credit to him.

If he wins the CY Young, that will make all the "Big 3" on the A's Cy Young winners

They're all good enough to be aces, it's like the Braves in the 90's with Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine
