Every year I go to my cabin for about 2 weeks (its in New York and I live in Minnesota) and as of two years ago I started making 3 or 4 mix cd's that I bring with me and leave up there. The songs on these cd's are mainly for the nights and the plane ride, and I tend to make them as if they are a professional cd mix, not super random. The songs I like to listen to out there are more emo, because I like to lay late at night and listen to these songs and think about things, but really any good song I am totally open to.

That being said, there are three formats that I use.
1. Night CD: This is the cd with good, calm, easy, maybe acoustic type songs. In the past I have used stuff like Tonic "If You Could Only See", Bryan Adams "Everything I Do", and David Gray "The Other Side." So recommend good songs that are easy to fall asleep to.
2. Three or Four band compilation: This is where I take a few bands that I really like, more acoustic or soft music. The first year I made one called "DC Jars of Dispatch Confessionals" which had all of the good songs by those bands (DC Talk, Jars of Clay, Dispatch, Dashboard Confessionals). Last year I made two, one was "John (Mayer), Jason (Mraz), and Jack (Johnson)" the other was "Counting Three Cold Field" (Counting Crows, Three Doors Down, Coldplay, and Sensefield). This year I am using Savage Garden and probably Something Corporate. So if you have a good idea of a band with some good songs that would fit in that genre.
3. Girls Mix: This one would be harder for you to recommend, but this is the CD that I put songs that make me think of the girl back home. I can't really think of any examples, but good songs (really any genre) that make you think of a girl.

If you have any recomendations, please put them down. I am really looking for any good songs. I have about 2000 mp3's on my computer, so I probably have a lot of good ones that I am just looking over, so recommend anything whether its mainstream to the furthest thing from mainstream. As you can tell this is all kind of emo, but I just spend a lot of time by myself thinking about things, so it really fits.

By the way, sorry metal heads, that was three years ago :'( They were good times though

To be honest, all 3 CDs sound like a girl's mix.

(In that the music is terrible, and girls buy terrible music)

No but seriously, there's alot of quieter acoustic music on Pearl Jam's "lost Dogs"..the guy also has a good voice so if you like them, you may wanna give that a look.

Pearl Jam is my favorite band, I don't really see how the bands I listed are much different? Anyway, I don't want to start a debate in here.
