Snow Patrol have been around for ages. At least 5 years, by my reckoning.

They are shit too.

The Snow Patrol got their first record deal in 1998 with Black Lion/Polydor UK the first album 'Song's for Polarbears' Bombed and was taken off the shelves after 6 weeks, Same story with the second album 'When It's all over we still have to clear up'' however it did move about 23,000 copies.

It's only since the release on the 2nd February 2004 of the third album 'Final Straw' that the band have made it 'Big' so again my vote for the best band to have made it big over the last 2 - 3 years goes to The Snow Patrol

I had heard of them before Final Straw, and so had a lot of other people.

All that happened was that they released an album that sounds like Coldplay and people bought it. They are horrible.

They are too many bands to name who I like, who have released their debuts in the past 3 years.

They've been big for longer than that, but yeah, they're probably my favorite band.

Razorlight are another suggestion

Narrow it down to this year, perhaps. Razorlight only released their first album last month.

But yeah, they are good.

I guess Incubus, if they count as making it big in the last 2-3 years.

Disturbed.. Not sure if they're big as of the last 2-3 years, but I don't care..

I only heard of Alkaline Trio in the past 3 years, so I would guess them. No idea if they were well known stateside before that or not.

Otherwise probably Funeral for a Friend or the Used

Metallica

OK, their debut album was released in the early to mid eighties.

They made their first video in the late 80s.

The album that made them huge was in 1991.

13 years. I can see how you'd mess that up. ;)

Yeah. Coheed too.

I can't decide between them all. There's like 92375 bands that I love as much as each other, all for different reasons.

Dave Mustaine made Metallica. He wrote four out of the ten songs on Kill 'Em All [including the best Metallica song, Phantom Lord].

But he didn't make Metallica huge, Bob Rock did. I hate that slimey son of a bitch.

If by make it big you mean a band that is in the mainstream a lot then prolly Dashboard Confessional or Yellowcard

Bob Rock made Alternica huge. Metallica broke up when Cliff Burton left the band.

You can't change the band's name because a member left. ;) I've heard that from you somewhere. :p

I don't know about that. It's not my favourite song from their album, by any means.

If you're talking in terms of singles chart, maybe.

I'd love to say Muse, but Origin of Symmetry was released about 5 years ago I think, and thats what made them big.

I'll say Snow Patrol then, Final Straw is a great album...:y:
