How can they make a list of best picture nominees and not include the best picture

Charlie Kaufman should run up on stage and steal all the awards

Haha Michael Moore didn't get any nominations.
I like Moore, and loved "Fahrenheit," but man was it stupid of him to not enter that for anything but Best Picture. I mean, that's just hubris at its worst.

No real shockers for Best Picture, I don't think. Personally, I think Eternal Sunshine got robbed. I think a nom for The Incredibles would have been cool, too. I'm just happy The Passion didn't get nominated.

But, uh...how did Clint Eastwood get nominated ahead of Paul Giamatti? I mean, all Giamatti did was carry the most critically-acclaimed movie of the year. I'd have put Liam Neeson or even Javier Bardem ahead of Eastwood, too.

I'm a little surprised to see Alan Alda get nominated, but beyond Church, Foxx, Freeman, and Owen, the fifth spot doesn't really matter.

I think they nailed the Best Actress choices. Not in the...y'know what, never mind. I was worried that Catalina Sandino Moreno would get snubbed.

So...is Sophie Okonedo this year's Shoreh Agdashloo? The Academy's way of saying "Look, we put a foreigner on our list!" I know Kate Winslet's already up for Best Actress, but I think her work in Finding Neverland warrented a second nom.

Where's Closer on the Adapted Screenplay list? Or Kinsey on Original Screenplay?

Kudos to the Academy for putting The Incredibles on the Original Screenplay list.

did they put Johnny Depp in there to lose? It's an evident fact that the best male actor is between Jamie foxx and Dicaprio

I pulled for Depp last year, but this year I'm going with Foxx.

And he'll win it to.

It was an excellent year for "popcorn" movies (Incredibles, Shrek, Spider-Man, Harry Potter, etc.), but there weren't a lot of great "award" movies. The ones that were good were very good, though.

I don't want to watch any of the films nominated for Best Picture, really. I haven't seen any, and don't intend to.

Eternal Sunshine was the best film of last year.

Where's Hero for cinemetography, well at least House of Flying Daggers will represent even though I never seen it, it should win this category. I see other movies that should be nominated for best picture like Eternal Sunshine.

But most importantly:

KILL BILL V2

Where the hell is that mentioned, greatest film of 2005 and it's not even nominated for any awards whatsoever.

Best actress
Best supporting actor
Pai Mei award for coolest character
Cinemetography
BEST PICTURE
Best director at least.
Writing.

It could easily be nominated for any of those categories but it's not, that's why the awards are gonna suck.

Kill Bill was crap. If it didn't have Tarantino's name plastered on it, people wouldn't give a fuck.

kill bill is cool. the problem with it is that it's nothing new. it doesn't deserve any awards, it's just a good movie.

eternal sunshine had better win best original script.

also, i've been wanting to see sideways ever since i was informed that it was done by the same guy who did about schmidt.

Ray getting the best movie nod over Eternal Sunshine or Hotel Rawanda was a huge shock to me

Giamatti not getting nominated is horendous, just terrible. Whoever wins should go off on the Academy on this, just terrible. Second year in a row hes gotten a bullshit snub.

Good nominations I guess

Toss up for Best Actor between Foxx and Dicaprio. If they could only give 2 Oscars cause they both were great.

The only thing Kill Bill might have been nominated for was Actress, since Uma got a Golden Globe nom (right?), but no way was her performance better than any of the five women who were nominated. This was a damned strong year for female leads. I mean, there were a dozen really good choices for the academy.

They picked, imo, the five best. But they could have taken Thurman, Julie Delpy (Before Sunset), Laura Dern (We Don't Live Here Anymore), Emmy Rossum (Phantom of the Opera), Kerry Washington (Ray), Sigourney Weaver (Imaginary Heroes), or Ziyi Zhang (House of Flying Daggers).

Also, Carradine was a longshot for Supporting Actor. But, really, like I said about Alan Alda earlier, that fifth spot was pretty much there because they needed a fifth spot. Church, Foxx, Freeman, and Owen were almost gimmes, imo.

I'm with the "Kill Bill is overrated" group, but I did enjoy it as a "popcorn" flick. Definitely not award-worthy, though.

OMG, Jamie Foxx got nominated for Collateral!!! That is fucking AWESOME! Not only does Collateral not seem like an award movie but it was released earlier in the year which is a disadvantage.

The Academy Awards always suck bad esepcially thise year with Eternal Sunshine getting snubbed and all but if Jamie Foxx wins for Collateral and Ray, I am definately going to go fucking insane.

I-Hate-You

He won't win for Collateral, but he'll most definately win for Ray.

Boondock Saint
01-26-2005, 01:53 PM
Yeah, his nomination for Collateral is sort of telling he'll win ONE of the two. But I mean, I wouldn't consider Foxx supporting in Collateral. The movie is about a TAXI DRIVER who picks up a hitman, not a hitman. Also he was good in it, but nothing amazing.

Maybe he won't win for Ray, and that is why he was nominated for this too?

It'll be interesting.

I don't even car if he actually WINS for Collateral. You know how so many people use that BS line about "It's good to just be nominated." Well in this case, win or lose that's a great nomination.
