SI does seem to fu</>ck a lot of teams over. I remember back during the playoffs for baseball one week they had the cubs on the front cover in like half the nation, then the Red Sox on the cover in the other half and we all know what happened to them.

But there is also cases like when the Dolphins where undefeated, they were on the cover that season, and they werent "cursed"

VonErich Lives

I'm a life long Pats fan.

That being said, of course Carolina can win.

No one thought the Pats would beat the Rams in the superbowl.

Will Carolina? I don't think so, my reasoning is Belicheck/Cronel will pick a defense to shut down Carolina.

Yes, the Pats gave that quick/short pass game, but I really don't think that's going to beat Carolina... They have a great defense and can bump the line and play physical, like the pats.

A lot will be on A. Smith and the line, if they can run and controll the clock.

As for McNab "wimping out"... No one can say that till your in the persons shoes and feel their pain. 99% of people that call an NFL player a wimp, would run crying to momma if they ever took 1/2 the force of an NFL hit.

The question now comes... who is the "Chocker" if you want to use that term, McNabb or Ried?

Reeves always took the heat of the Broncos losses (and since hasn't won the big game with other teams)

Marty Schottinhiemer is the same.

On the other hand, the Buffalo losses got hung more on Kelly then Levy.

I'd rather have an average WINNING playoff QB then a guy who is great in the regular season then 2 and 3 in the playoff games

And I really dont think hes average AT BEST...Throwing 1 INT at home all season including 2 playoff games is ridiculous, and I dont understand why a lot of people just think hes "decent." Probably because hes not flashy, and gets the job down instead of putting up ridiculous numbers and then not winning in the playoffs.

I always notice how the teams that win the superbowl, or really do well, tend not to have the 'star' quarterbacks.

2002 16gs 62.1% 3764yds 28TD 14Int 85.7% Rating
2003 16gs 60.2% 3620yds 23TD 12Int 85.9% Rating

Not 1/2 bad... considering he's had a questionable running game, a blue collar line and avg WR's. Oh yeah, and he's 5-0 in the playoffs, 1 division title, 2 confrence titles, 1 superbowl win.

Take a look at Montana's first couple of years... and even some of the later years.
Montana had a better running game and better wr's.

http://www.profootballhof.com/index.cfm?section=team&cont_id=player&personnel_id=1302&roster_id=42&note_id=10373

Now, I'm not calling Brady, the next Montana, we'll know in 10yrs... But let's remember, Montana was never the "Deep Passer" or "Big, Strong Armed" like Manning or Marino. He was a smart qb, made good decisions and didn't crack under pressure.

Also, David Thornton is one of the most underrated players in the NFL. I don't think I've seen him make one mistake. Just because he doesn't make the huge plays, he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. On ESPNNews when they were going over the game, on that 3rd down when the Pats could have put the game away, they kept saying that the pass was dropped and never even mentioned Thornton although he made a great play getting his hands behind the reciever's and knocking the ball down.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
01-19-2004, 11:07 PM
Thornton is a linebacker right?

Its kinda hard to go unnoticed at Linebacker, you get a lot of tackles..you get noticed. I mean Ray Lewis stands out the most becuase hes a great player...plus he goes nuts out there on the field but then there is also guys like Urlacher who just make so many tackles.

I really haven't heard much about this guy, but I am guessing he has around 90-100 tackles? Which is pretty good but not outstanding or anything.

2nd longest winning steak in nfl history.

Did the 85 bears dominate more? maybe, but the league is tougher now... back then 1/2 the teams knew every year they lose over 1/2 their games.

lol So if you don't make it to the super bowl, you "choked?"

This was their best year with Manning and they lost by 11 on the road to a team that had won 13 straight and were pretty big favorites.

VonErich Lives

So, if the Pats win the superbowl and then win a few in a row next season, what's more impressive, the Phins going 17-0 in a season, or winning 20 straight over 2 seasons.

This came up with tiger a few years ago, they wouldn't call him a grand champ or sumthin because he won all the majors, but not in order so it happened in the same year.

On a side note, the Pats will just get better. I think only a few people have contracts up.

Law, Woody, Huard.

I assume Huard will be gone and I tend to think Woody is also, where he's playing Gaurd for the Pats another team would pay him more to play Center.

Law, it depends, if he wants to be the highest paid player in the league he's gone... but I think he stays, and that Pats pay'em.

Also, don't forget this great defense was missing possible their best LB... Colvin... Imagine how sick it would have been with him healthy.

Plus, they have 2 first round picks next year.

As for the Colts, next year is the last of the "Big 3" I think Mannings contract is up this year and then Harrison and James the next year... No way you devote 50% of your cap to 3 players on offense.

That's the rumor, much like GB drafted a few QB's that got delt and started for other teams while they had Favre.

The only thing that could keep Huard is if he takes a big paycut, which who knows... He doesn't even hold kickoffs, so maybe 100K to hold a clipboard and have a shot at a ring is worth it to him.
