View Full Version : Lord Alfred Hayes Dies at 77

Slam Wrestling is reporting that Lord Alfred Hayes, best known as an announcer during WWF's big 1980's expansion period, passed away yesterday at age 77. Hayes had been dealing with a number of health issues over the last several years.

While his time in the national spotlight came from playing a comical character on Tuesday Night Titans and other WWF programs, Hayes worked as a serious wrestler and heel manager in Texas and Florida as well as other territories throughout the 60's and 70's.

Recently, WWE reissued Andre The Giant, an old Coliseum Home Video hosted by Hayes, on DVD.

Wow, it's always surprising when a name you know passes away, even if he's lived a full life. Rest in Peace, Lord Alfred. The wrestling world's lost a great man.

Really sorry to hear about this one, however, I kinda knew it was a matter of time. I saw a recent photo of LAH not too long ago, and he didn't look so good :( I felt bad for him, as he always seemed like such a great guy, and everyone always spoke well of him.

I always liked watching him hosting and generally just being around, as he was a riot with lots of the things they did. His voice will probably always be in my head saying "Coliseum Home Video" :lol: Anyhow, hopefully WWE will do something nice for him at some point, and maybe we can actually see some of his wrestling stuff now - from when he was serious.

R.I.P. - You'll Definitely Be Missed :(

1928 – 2005

WWE lost a beloved member of its family on Wednesday when Lord Alfred Hayes passed away at the age of 76.

Hayes joined World Wrestling Entertainment in the early 1980s and soon became a television mainstay. His wit, distinctive accent and colorful insights helped make Hayes one of his time’s most remembered personalities. Hayes provided commentary for the WrestleMania 2 main event, pitting Hulk Hogan against King Kong Bundy, but he was perhaps best known as the broadcast partner on such programs as The Bobby Heenan Show and Tuesday Night Titans, alongside Vince McMahon. An accomplished wrestler himself, Hayes also managed such Superstars as WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter.

His voice, which graces countless video releases and matches, has become synonymous with 1980s WWE, and his contributions were integral to the company’s success during that time.

"His Lordship" will be greatly missed.

yea, I remember reading a while back he wasn't in good health. One of the all-time great personalities out of the ring. One of the very first guys I grew up with watching on the old WWF videos and Saturday shows.

Oh, I will miss him. Definitly one of the top wrestling commentators of all time. I also grew up listening to him and Gorilla and Vince.
