lol sorry next time I'll quit work and post earlier for you :(

Seriously though the best series I've ever watched. Admittedly I'm not a big cricket fan but this was great to watch. All credit to the Australians too they still are a great side and yeah Warne and McGrath probably two of the best bowlers ever. And Warne showed he could bat too :D. And in defeat they have been great. And Brett Lee is just Mr Smiley.

LOVE ALL ROUND REALLY

Gotta love the day when the Aussies came back out after bad light with sunglasses. That's one of the most admirable things about cricket the pursuit of fair play and the good humour involved. I know it's not all roses but it's a breath of fresh air when compared with football.

I've never seen so many people go ape-shit over a draw in my whole life.

Congratulations England, you just retained The Ashes for the 17th year in a row, only this time you guys actually won the series.

As for Warnie, the more women that he sleeps with, the better he gets. Here's hoping that a few more hundred sluts come out & say that they've fucked him, so then by the next Ashes series he will have about 800 wickets! :D

& yeah, LOL at you guys waiting until the series was over until gloating about it (and not even in a proper fashion - 1 thread in the sports forum is shithouse when you should have the whole casual forum covered in these threads).

Anyways, I've seen the most dominating team since the Invincibles play test cricket for the past 11 years as well as 2 World Cups, so I'm not too fussed if the Poms win 1 series as now we have a benchmark of 17 years to break, the next time that we play youse in '06/07.

09-13-2005, 04:41 AM
& in all honesty, get fucked "that was the greatest test series ever". The West Indies tour of 94/95 was the greatest test series that I have ever seen in my life.

With the series tied 1-1 going into the last test (and the winner being declared the best side in the world), Steve Waugh came out on their own turf & belted 200 runs in probably the most courageous innings in the history of the game, to win the test match, the series, the Frank-Worrell trophy, & become officially the best side in the world and start the dominating run which they did.

The whole Parade stuff is such bullshit though. Way OTT. All that happened was that they beat Australia. Hardly splitting the atom.

Still makes up for having had to endure the likes of Ronnie Irani and all those other carthorses who have played for England over the years.

Yeah thats what I think in both cases. People comparing this to the 66 WC will only draw :wtf: from me. There was a survey at the end of the Ashes and theres still only a tiny percentage of people who can identify even 3 people in the England team. Names I'm talking about not even faces. 10/24 couldn't even name one. In terms of popularity football it is not.

And yeah on the second count. I have been drawn into this series but wouldn't watch another one probably. Might check it out but probs won't be so interested. It'll be even harder for cricket as they move to Sky.

It annoys me that any genuine achievement gets hyped out of all proportions so it actually loses its meaning. They won a series - but is it really deserving of a parade?

The Mackem
09-13-2005, 06:13 AM
It's the media hype at the end of the day isn't it? It's been plastered all over the news and the papers and the coverage has been so intense that it's been made into something that it's not. What happens if they win the next Ashes series, are they going to have a parade then? Or if they lose? Is the whole of London going to throw rottern food at the team? It's ridiculous really.

Moonax
09-13-2005, 06:30 AM
Once they start to lose again then people will stop supporting the team - and you can bet your arse that Kelly Holmes et al won't be seen dead at the Oval.

That said I would far rather that Andrew Flintoff be a hero to kids than that overpaid junkie Rio Ferdinand.

Don't bring rugby into this. The only reason you poms don't give a shit about it anymore is because your team was decent for 1 season and now they have gone back to being shit.

Feb 03 - Upton Park - 3-1. You gave the game to the world and we made your overpaid and overrated "stars" look very, very average at it.

Seriously though the Poms played well, they deserved to win the series. I guess after so long at the top we had to have a downer and lose one at some point, pity it had to be the Ashes. Ah well, only 18 months till we get it back.

The atmosphere at the 5th test (and really all the tests) was great. The English putting up umbrellas and the Aussies taking their tops off in response. The players coming out in sunglasses due to the "brightness".

Where's England go next? Tour of the subcontinent?

Y2C

Actually Y2C, we've always been good at it, it's just the county game has always been poorly organized and has affected the chances of the international team. The central contracts(I think thats what they're called) have definately helped the fitness of our players, if it werent for them we would've given up after the Lords defeat.
