A concert featuring one of the hottest blues bands in the country, "The Twisters" (http://www.twisters.ca/index2.html), had to be cancelled at the Columbus Community Centre last night.

The band members were travelling to Prince George yesterday when they were involved in a three-vehicle collision in the Fraser Canyon, the claimed the life of bassist, 32-year-old James Taylor.

R.C.M.P. say a southbound semi lost control on the Fraser Bridge, near Hope, flipped on its side and slid into an oncoming pick-up truck driven by Taylor and his passenger -- drummer, Matt Pease. Both Taylor and the 48-year-old driver of the semi were pronounced dead at the scene. Pease had to be air-lifted to Royal Columbia Hospital in New Westminster.

The Group's two other band members had been following behind in the third vehicle involved in the crash. They suffered just minor injuries.

Terry Rollier with the Prince George chapter of the Blues Underground Network (http://www.bluesnorth.com/)says the local group had been working for two years to bring "The Twisters" to the city. He says a benefit blues jam session will be held next Sunday, November 6th at the Legion to raise funds for the band members and their families.

"The Twisters" won a Canadian Independent Music Award for Best Blues Album in 2003 and the group was a Juno nominee that same year, as well.
