So when did they tighten the ropes and why? If you watch older footage you can see that the ropes were really loose. I'd imagine that people fell over or through them pretty easily so is that why they were tightened?

Read Have A Nice Day and "Holy" Mick Foley shall explain a little bit about the ropes.

On a semi-related note, whenever Big Show hits the ropes full force I always think they're going to snap. I saw a clip of him as the "Showster" and he must have gone back at least four feet, past the apron.

Ron Simmons once went against the ropes back when he was an Acolyte and they snapped. Then some TV show over here showed the footage, everyone laughed and made fun of him :wtf:

beacuse spot monkeys cant work with loose ropes half as good.

seriously tho i know about the mick foley/ear how it happened thing from his book, so that could be why

But he lost his ear because the ropes where too tight so that wouldn't explain why they aren't as loose as they once where.

And didn't Foley lose his ear in a WCW ring with the cable ropes? I was more thinking along the lines of the WWE ropes, as lose cable ropes would have no spring whatsoever to it. I just find it odd that when watching a lot of older footage the ropes are sooo loose and now they're super tight. Was it a big story when they got tightened, did the wrestlers like it looser?

Foley lost his ear in Germany.

Anyway the ropes are tight for extra bounce and they are easier to work with.
