Well, i personally am proud for the guy. I've watched his mini-reality show "Bonds on Bonds", which is pretty damn good, and i must say that arguably this is a VERY historic moment. The Giants did lose however to the Astros 6-3.

Your feelings/comments on the HR, Bonds, etc.

Yeah, they used to cut into any show whenever he had an at bat when he was at 713, but I just heard about this when I happened to go to mlb.com a little while ago

Lol I know, I heard they cancelled Bonds on Bonds though because there wasn't as much interest as they initially expected.

Its pretty damn likely Barry juices, but unless its proven I don't knock the guy. He gets a lot of shit, and in the end its all probably deserved, but its never been proven he takes steroids. Unless of course I just missed it then someone can slap me.

so now that Chasing Ruth is over we get Chasing Aaron now, i sure hope we get to see every one of Barry's pop ups for the rest of his career

Barry said he's not concerned with Aaron because he is black.

On a positive note, at least now maybe people will start talking more about Hank Aaron who does not get nearly enough respect for what he has done to the game.

He's admitted to using them "unknowingly".

Whooo he's second place!!!!!

Exactly!

As dubious as his last five years' worth of accomplishments have been, it still doesn't erase the fact that he's still 40 HRs shy of the record.

To quote Sideshow Bob: "Honestly, do they give a Nobel Prize for Attempted Chemistry?!?"

Yeah, he hit a lot of home runs, but there's still a guy out there with a ton more. I'll start getting excited about it if he gets to 750. Until then, I don't want to be seeing every single at-bat.

On a sort-of-but-not-really-related subject, I'll be pulling for Albert Pujols to pass 73 this season. Pujols doesn't look (to me, at least) like he's on the juice. He has a picture-perfect swing, he's a good teammate, and he seems to be a genuinely good guy. Baseball could use more ambassadors like him.

Yeah throw at him, put him on base and put your team in a worse position to win. That's what you need to do

For me its both. Pujols has an awesome swing AND it looks like he takes roids.

See this is the problem now. Every big guy who swings big is gonna be accused of using roids, thats the worst thing about guys who do, they just breed suspicion and bad feeling for everyone else.

Honestly, I don't care if Bonds (or any other player) took steroids. Steroids don't make it easier to hit a ball going 95 miles an hour at you.

No, but they do turn routine flyouts to right field into towering home runs off the upper deck.

Exactly

No one has ever doubted Bonds' hitting ability but no-one takes roids to boost average anyway seeing as it does nothing for hand-eye coordination, it really only manifests itself in HR/Slugging, maybe obp if you add a little for those fly-balls turned HR's, or in Bonds' case 600 walks per season.

The Miz
06-11-2006, 02:24 PM
It undoubtedly boosted his OPB about 200 points. Pitchers were afraid to throw to him and those 200+ walks made his OBP skyrocket. If guys pitched to him like they used to he might have hit 90

ct2k
06-11-2006, 02:42 PM
Wasn't his slugging % over .900 at one point?

Major League Baseball really does have the potential to destroy itself with this thing, like everything else its very easy to destroy credibility but not to rebuild it.

I just can't believe the MLB haven't cracked the whip more, i know the Players are a powerful unit but still, the MLB needs to crack down big time, tests are needed, and VERY stiff sentences are needed to. But obviously then if this is as widespread as some have suggested, we'd end up with half the league suspended for a year.

I think if they through the book at a few guys and made examples of them others might be deterred from juicing in the future.

BLEH, i hate it all, fucking guys who claim to love the game yet all they do is tarnish it.

Cheating has and always will be a part of baseball so there's really not much that hasn't been tarnished in some form.
