Flyers' Roenick hit in face by puck

Associated Press

2/12/2004

NEW YORK (AP) - Philadelphia centre Jeremy Roenick was injured Thursday night when he was struck in the face by a puck during the Flyers' game against the New York Rangers.

The puck appeared to catch Roenick in the jaw and he collapsed in a pool of blood to the left of Flyers goalie Sean Burke with 15:51 remaining in the third period.

Roenick was motionless for several minutes before getting up and slowly leaving the ice while clutching a towel to his face. He was later helped onto a stretcher.

Roenick, who assisted on Simon Gagne's goal, is the Flyers second-leading scorer with 45 points on 18 goals and 27 assists.

The Flyers lost another centre less than a minute later Keith Primeau was helped from the ice after a collision with the Rangers' Bobby Holik.

It was the second time this season that Roenick had been hit in the face by a puck. He needed 26 stitches to close a facial would after getting hit by an errant slapshot in practice on January 6.

Also Primeau got hurt tonight... right after they trade away Comrie.

Digressing aside, it's not been a good year for Roenick and photo ops.

Holy shit. They trade Comrie away, then lose Roenick and Primeau in the following game.

Who's their top line center going to be now?

It looked sick on ESPN. When I saw it i was like holy shit. Even though he wouldn't wish this on anyone, Bettman must be smiling because of Roenick's hatred towards him.

I was at a Wild game once when someone got hit in the face, and it was super weird cause when they picked him off the blood was frozen so they shoveled up the solid blood. Crazy shit this hockey sport is.

Im from Philly and Roenick is the newest King of Hockey for us. Everyone LOVES JR. JR was at the game today at NY and he was talking, he couldnt talk well but youc ould understand him. He'll be out for 4-6 weeks but he also suffered a concussion... His 9th! of his career. So he will be weighing his options. There is a SMALL chance that he might not play ever again, I think he has one more concussion than #88 (Pussy Lindros).

JR is the Man. Roenick not Ross.
