Since the December releases all look pretty gay (EXCEPT CHILDREN OF MEN), I thought I'd make this thread now.

1. The Departed
2. Stranger than Fiction
3. Borat
4. The Science of Sleep
5. Casino Royale I GUESS

The fountain might be on that list, but it also might be on my worst of 2006 list. I cant decide.

No movies really blew me away this year. But these are five movies I really liked:

Babel
Borat
The Departed
Clerks 2
Stranger Than Fiction

Haven't seen Little Miss Sunshine or Casino Royale though.

-edit-

Just saw the movie Little Children. Easily in my top 5. Might even be #1.

It may be, thing is number 5 is the bottom of the list as I have watched only 4 so far, and unlikely to watch anymore after Eragon this year, so even if it sucks It will still be #5

5. A Prairie Home Companion

I didn't discover this movie til it was out on DVD, but I am glad I did. The great ensemble cast did this movie justice and Gerrison Keillor as G.K. (himself) gave this movie just the right amount of personal touch (it is about his radio show of the same name). This movie is important to me because it is the last movie that will ever be directed by the great Robert Altman.

4. Idiocracy

I love this movie for the sure fact that no one else does. With Borat taking the world by storm, this little Mike Judge masterpiece never had a chance (especially since Fox pulled it after about 2 months and showing it in about 100 screens nationwide). THIS (not Borat) was leaps and bounds the funniest movie of the year and one of the funniest I have ever seen. If this ever comes out on DVD, it should sit proudly in any collection.

3. Inside Man

It actually feels like this movie was released last year since it has dropped from most people's radar when it comes to the almighty "Top" list (and if wasn't for "Children of Men" looming... I would be sreaming bloody murder that Clive Owen isn't in the early Oscar talks for this film). This was a very well directed and insanely well acted movie. Really should be considered as one of the best movies of the year.

2. The Prestige

It really is unfair to say that this my true number two movie of the year because this is one that I was waiting nea 10 years to see. It the grand scheme of things, this really should be my number one because I seemed to have more emotional ties to the film just based on the number of times I read the damn book getting ready for the movie's release. I mean seriously... you had Wolverine, Batman, Alfie, Gollum, Ziggy Stardust, and the hot chick from Lost in Translation. How can that ever be beat.....

1. The Departed

Oh yeah... that's right... Leo, Matt, Jack, Marky Mark, and the talented Baldwin all playing the greatest rolls of their careers to date. Say what you want about Goodfellas and Raging Bull.... this was Scorsese's best movie ever.
