View Full Version : I Loved WCW Nitro Production

I know it's hillarious that they would mention it every single week, but I swear when I was sitting on 12/13/14 years old, I believed each and every episode was the biggest episode of all-time. I loved how they did that.

I loved how the announcers made everything soooo dramatic. I loved how during the nWo angle, the announcers always ran off when the nWo would come to the set. Hennan would always take off first with a "See ya" line

And then the "We're Out of time, OMG GOLDBERG, WE GOT TO GO....SEE YOU NEXT WE...... It was like god dammit I need more of this shit.

I liked how the short interviews were done at the top of the stage a lot with Mean Gene.

They always had unexpected happenings too. Like sometimes wrestlers would just walk out for an interview and the announcers would be like, "wtf, Savage isn't listed as next."

I feel as if the WWE doesn't have this at all. Like every episode seems to just end with a winner(s) posing to the crowd and music playing. There's no kind of "anything can happen" feeling anymore. It's very black and white.

Anyway, did you guys enjoy the way Nitro was produced back then?

I always loved how when they would do the show in a place where there was water all around the ring, the announcers would act all surprised when someone got thrown in.
There was a certain air of spontanaety in WCW that WWE lacks, though I would say it was less of an "anything can happen" feel and more of a "we have no idea what the fuck is going on" feel.

I think it's safe to say that not enough people enjoyed WCW Nitro.

Yeah, Nitro with their DJ's and cheerleaders filling up the 3 hour borefest. Goodtimes.

Yeah, pick the worst year in Nitro's history and make fun of it. :nono:

Sadly, I didn't get Nitro till it kind of exploded and got big.

WCW Nitro 96-98 was great. :y:

Nitro was great...until I was forced to sit through Hogan metaphorically jerking off for 3 hours. Though if Hogan was jerking off Nash was usually somewhere within watchable distance...so that was good I guess...

The Finger Poke of Doom was easily the worst thing they ever did. Literally killed WCW.

The death of WCW came from a number of wounds, that was the first, from which it was never allowed to recover.

The lack of spontaneity is the one thing I've complained about consistently about the WWE for about the past five years.

Goldberg beating HOgan on Nitro was great, but a bad business move.

Yeah, wtf were they thinking, giving that away on cable?

Actually, that wasn't the first. I don't mean to nitpick, but they did write an entire book on the subject. I think lots of stuff happened before the finger poke.

Finger poke was by far the worst and I believe that's what killed WCW.

LOL dont remember hearing that, although I remember the moment.

I loved WCW. Have so many great memories and like LC said, it really did feel like the biggest show EVER. The announce team of Schiavone, Heenan and Zbyszko worked well, considering most three man announce teams are horrible and things get too cluttered.

The spontaneity and how they cut programs short almost always left with a WTF I NEED TO WATCH NEXT WEEK feeling. Especially when the nWo was getting their asses kicked.

The thing WCW also did well was have major fued in all areas of the card. They had the usual main event fued, which most of the time was involving the nWo, but had the mid-card fueds like DDP/Raven and cruiserweight fueds between Rey, Juventud, Jericho, Malenko etc.

Yeah, WCW Nitro was the best...at least from 96-98. They made every episode like it was a major event. Everything was spontaneous especially during the nWo era, and they had a stacked show with just about everything you could think of.

Today wrestling shows are boring and very predictable.

You guys think Nitro wasn't predictable??? It was the EXACT SAME SHIT every single week from 1996-1998. From 99 is was simply sad to watch. I think a lot of you have elected to forget just how bad WCW was...

King Steve

Pretty much but the NWO/Hogan shit aside, they had some good mid card fueds. I pretty much blame Hogan for most of WCW since he did the same thing week after week and I know he had a lot of control.

Jim Crockett/Mid Atlantic. Nothing will EVER be able to touch that IMO. Nothing...

Am I the only one who though the Lashley cage jump onto Umaga and then it cutting was one of the best endings to a show on WWE in a while?

I mean, I'm not justifying the fued or their matchup. But it was pretty damn good.

WCW had cruiserweights and mid-card programs...that's better than what the WWE has going on. :y:

They got carried away towards the end, and they clinged to the crap of the past too much. Hogan needed to get the fuck out of WCW. Unfortnately they couldn't get rid of him. That's the edge the WWE has. They don't give guys creative control.

The cruiserweights had some absolutely 'kickass' matches. Seriously, I would tune in to Nitro to watch the one big cruiserweight match they would have every week. :P

Why are we comparing Nitro to wwe now? Wouldnt it be easier to comapre what wwe once was to now? Because Raw was exactly like Nitro back in the day.

Actually, that wasn't the first. I don't mean to nitpick, but they did write an entire book on the subject. I think lots of stuff happened before the finger poke.

Yeah, I was reading that in a bookstore the other day. They made a lot of mistakes prior to the fingerpoke, but I think that that was really the first major mistake in a series of irreversible mistakes. It's also, IMO, the first mistake they made that was worse than any mistake WWE had ever made.
