by Buck Woodward @ 11:17:00 PM on 2/25/2004
NWA: Total Nonstop Action for February 25th began with AJ Styles telling us that cable theft is wrong.
A video package on last week's announcement that Vince Russo is the new NWA Director Of Authority was shown, along with clips of Russo's history with Jeff Jarrett in TNA.
The TNA opening aired. Mike Tenay was back as Play-by-play man, and Jeremy Borash was back as ring announcer, since Russo "rehired" them.
Juventud Guerrera vs. Petey Williams vs. Jerry Lynn. Lynn has been rehired by Russo as well. The other members of Team AAA, Team Canada and Team NWA were all watching from different parts of the arena. Williams was a substitute for Teddy Hart, who Tenay said had suffered a knee injury. Hart was using a crutch to get around when they showed him later. Guerrera and Williams attacked Lynn before the bell. They went into a sequence where they all avoided each other's moves. They went into a waistlock reversal segment, and Guerrera gave Lynn a rana while Williams hit Juventud with a springboard clothesline. Lynn hit Juventud with a slingshot splash, but Williams broke it up with a second rope legdrop. Williams went for a jujigatame on Lynn, while Juventud went for the same move on Williams. Lynn escaped and put Williams in a reverse Indian deathlock, while Guerrera put Lynn in an abdominal stretch. The announcers said that Don Callis had been banned from the Asylum by Russo. Lynn gave Williams a reverse DDT as Williams was going for the same move on Juventud, bringing both men down to the mat. Lynn hit Williams with a rolling neck snap, but Juventud broke up the cover. Guerrera hit Lynn with a dropkick, then gave Williams one as well. Guerrera hit a vertical suplex on Williams and applied a Fujiwara armbar, but Lynn broke it up. Lynn hit Guerrera with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for two. Williams hit a sunset flip on Lynn, who grabbed Juventud in a German suplex as he fell over. Williams hit Lynn with a tornado DDT for two. Guerrera hit a pumphandle slam on Williams for two. Guerrera slammed Williams and went to the top rope, but Lynn DDT'd him down. Williams blocked a Lynn tilt-a-whirl with a Russian legsweep for two, but Guerrera broke it up. Juventud powerbombed Williams, but Lynn hit Guerrera with the TKO. Lynn who was favoring his shoulder the whole match, rolled away from Guerrera in pain, and Williams hit Guerrera with a top rope splash for the pin in eight minutes. Winner: Petey Williams.
A video package on Bill Apter awarding America's Most Wanted the Total Wrestling Magazine Tag Team Of The Year Award was shown. Apter then gave Mike Tenay an award for TNA being the "Most Innovative Promotion".
Mike Tenay called Vince Russo to the ring, saying that he is skeptical of Russo, despite Russo telling him that he wants to do what is "right for the company". Russo said he deserved the beating Jeff Jarrett gave him a few months ago, because he always "kneeled at the alter of television ratings" and he "sold his soul to the devil". Russo talked about bringing nudity, vulgarity and violence to wrestling, and said it was his decision to lower the Undertaker from a ceiling on a crucifix. Russo said he got the ratings, had success and made money (mentioning he made half a million dollars his best year), but that what he did was wrong. Russo said he was "playing for the wrong team". We saw that the locker room was watching in the back. Russo said that Eric Bischoff recently commented that Russo has a "dark side". Russo said Bischoff was wrong, he didn't just have a darkside, he was the "antichrist". Russo said he was here tonight to tell us that he "had been forgiven" and that he was a "changed man". Some fans chanted "bull****". Russo said he needed to ask his peers for forgiveness now.
Jeff Jarrett's music hit and he came to the ring. Jarrett asked Russo who he thought he was kidding. Jarrett said Russo was as sincere as every other owner or promoter in wrestling. Jarrett said Russo was up to something. Jarrett said his hard feelings towards Russo were gone after he beat him up, so if Russo wanted to be on his side, all he had to do was ask. Russo said the "curtain is about to come down on the Jeff Jarrett show". Russo said wrestling was not about them anymore, and it was time for Jeff Jarrett to pass the torch. Jarrett slapped Russo as he said other people had "earned it". Jarrett said he had been earning it his whole career, and that it was his time now. Jarrett said it was time for Russo to take another beating for the team, and shoved him to the mat. Russo wouldn't fight back, even as Jarrett yelled in his face. Jarrett slapped Russo to the mat. Jarrett begged Russo to set an example to the people in the back. Russo said he just showed them (by standing and taking it). Russo told Jarrett to enjoy his night off, as "one man's dream is about to come true". Russo walked off.
Scott Hudson interviewed The Juggalos, who said that the ICP was busy tonight in the recording studio.
A video package on the breakup of Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger was shown.
Simon Diamond vs. Johnny Swinger. Diamond chased Swinger around the ring and through the crowd to start the match. Swinger used the referee as a shield and clipped Diamond with a punch once they made it into the ring. Swinger worked over Diamond in a corner, but Simon came back with a forearm after kicking away a backdrop. The announcers noted that there were no TNA Dancers tonight, due to Vince Russo's new "wrestling first" philosophy. Swinger and Diamond took their fight to the floor, with Swinger choking Diamond with a electrical cord. Back in the ring, Swinger pounded Diamond and scored a two count. Swinger applied a sleeperhold, but Diamond reversed it. Swinger and Diamond clotheslined each other to the mat. Simon hit a series of rights, then caught a Swinger leapfrog and turned it into a spinebuster. Diamond hit the Simon Series of vertical suplexes, but Swinger kneed out after two. Diamond hit a backdrop and superkick, and Swinger rolled to the floor. Swinger pulled something out of his jeans and slugged Diamond with it from the floor as Diamond reached through the ropes. Swinger then pinned Diamond while putting the object into Diamond's kneepad at the five minute mark. Another referee came down and explained what happened, and the match was restarted. Swinger hit Simon with right hands in a corner, and pulled the object out from Diamond's kneepads. Simon hit some chops, but Swinger poked him in the eyes. Swinger went to use the object, but the referee blocked it. Simon hit some right hands, then lifted Swinger in a fireman's carry. Glenn Gilberti, David Young and Kid Kash ran down and attacked Diamond for the DQ at the seven minute mark. Winner: Simon Diamond via disqualification.
2 Tuff Tony and Rudy Boy ran out to help Diamond, but was also beat down by Gilberti, Kash, Young and Swinger. Don Harris and security finally came in to run them off.
Scott Hudson interviewed Shane Douglas, Michael Shane and Traci. Douglas said last week he sent a message to 3 Live Kru, when Jeff Jarrett walked in. Jarrett seemed confused by what Russo's agenda is. Douglas said you can't trust Russo as far as you can throw him. Jarrett then went and told the Naturals to take card of Chris Harris tonight.
A video package on the rivalry between 3 Live Kru and the New Franchise was shown.
Ron Killings & Konnan, with BG James, vs. Michael Shane & Shane Douglas, with Traci. Konnan did his usual pre-match mic work, and Shane attacked him to start the match. Konnan hit Shane with a clothesline and Killings hit Douglas with an ax kick. It settled into a tag match, and Konnan flung Shane to the floor, and held Douglas for a Killings top rope legdrop. Shane pulled down the top rope as Douglas whipped Killings across the ring, allowing the New Franchise to take control. They worked over Killings for a while, keeping him on their side of the ring. Shane hit Killings with a overhead belly to belly suplex, and Douglas hit a piledriver. Killings fought back, hitting a flying forearm on Douglas. Konnan got the hot tag and gave the rolling clothesline to Shane and a hiptoss to Douglas. Konnan hit Shane with a facebuster and backdropped Douglas to the floor. Shane tripped Konnan into the bottom turnbuckle while Douglas and Killings fought on the floor. Douglas slapped BG James, and James started pounding him. In the ring, Konnan hit a powerbomb on Shane and applied the Tequila Sunrise. Shane was tapping out, but the referee was watching the fight on the floor. Traci ran in and hit Konnan with her cast, and Shane hit him with a superkick for the win at the seven minute mark. Winners: Michael Shane & Shane Douglas.
Konnan and Killings had words after the match, but BG James calmed them down.
Scott Hudson interviewed America's Most Wanted. James Storm had his arm in a sling. Chris Harris said he proved last week he can beat Jeff Jarrett, but Vince Russo gave Jarrett the night off, while he has a match with Chase Stevens.
A video package on the feud between The Naturals (Chase Stevens & Andy Douglas) and America's Most Wanted was shown.
Chris Harris vs. Chase Stevens. Harris hit a reverse atomic drop and a long vertical suplex early in the bout. Stevens booted a charging Harris and hit a clothesline. Stevens choked Harris, hit a snap suplex, then choked him some more. Harris came back with a Thesz press but Stevens hit a flying forearm for two. Harris hit a full nelson slam, Stevens hit a leg lariat. Harris hit a powerslam for two. Stevens blocked a Catatonic attempt with a Death Valley Driver for a two count. Stevens went for a moonsault, but Harris moved. Harris hit a spear for a two count, then hit the Catatonic for the win at the five minute mark. Winner: Chris Harris.
Vince Russo sent a referee down to tell the ring announcer that Harris would now have a match with Andy Douglas. Douglas ran down and attacked Harris to start the match while Russo watched from the stage.
Andy Douglas vs. Chris Harris. Douglas dominated the early moments, while the announcers speculated as to why Russo was making Harris wrestle twice. Harris came back with a bulldog, but Stevens distracted Harris and Douglas hit a double arm DDT (Natural Selection) for a two count. Harris floated over a slam and rammed Douglas into Stevens, who was on the apron, and rolled him up for the pin in three minutes. Winner: Chris Harris.
Vince Russo went to ringside and told ring announcer Jeremy Borash that Harris now had to wrestle both Naturals in a handicap match. Russo left, stopping briefly to say something to James Storm, who was coming to ringside.
Chris Harris vs. The Naturals. Harris hit a double clothesline on the Naturals, but Stevens and Douglas easily took over and tagged in and out while working over Harris. Douglas hit a corkscrew elbow for a two count. Stevens got a two count after a double backdrop. The Naturals kept going for covers, but Harris kept kicking out. Harris hit Douglas as he came off the top rope, but Douglas just stomped Harris back down. Harris began to mount a comeback, and Douglas went for a chair, but the referee stopped him. Meanwhile, Stevens grabbed a chair. Harris ducked the chairshot, and Storm ran in and superkicked the chair into the face of Stevens. Harris covered Stevens for the win at the six minute mark while Storm made sure Douglas couldn't get in to break up the pin. Winner: Chris Harris.
A video package on the events leading to Sabu & Raven vs. CM Punk & Julio Dinero, with Father James Mitchell, was shown.
Scott Hudson questioned Vince Russo about why he kept making Chris Harris wrestle matches. Russo said he didn't have to answer to anyone, he knew what he was doing. Harris barged in and said Russo wasn't a changed man at all. Russo said he has been watching Harris, and he's "not ready yet". Russo said that his job was to get Harris ready, and that he will get a title shot at Jeff Jarrett on March 17th. Russo said that Harris was going to hate him until then, but he was going to get Harris ready. Russo offered Harris his hand, and Harris shook it.
Sabu & Raven vs. CM Punk & Julio Dinero, with Father James Mitchell. Raven's entrance music is now a knock-off of "Come Out And Play" by Offspring, his old ECW theme. Raven started out with Punk, stomping him down in a corner. Raven took out Punk and Dinero, sending both to the floor. Sabu used a chair to springboard to the top rope, then flipped off onto Punk and Dinero. Sabu took Dinero into the ring and hit a springboard leg lariat for two, while Raven worked over Punk on the floor. Raven hit a clothesline/bulldog combo on Punk and Dinero, but Dinero floored Raven with a Mafia kick. Dinero hit Raven with a spinkick for two. Punk hit Raven with boot scrapes, but missed a charge in the corner. Raven tagged Sabu, who threw a chair at Punk and Dinero. Sabu used a chair launch to send Dinero over the top rope with a clothesline, then hit Punk with Air Sabu and an Arabian facebuster. On the floor, Mitchell went to hit Raven with a chair, but Raven shoved him down. Sabu hit a Triple Jump Moonsault on Dinero, but Punk broke it up. Sabu went for a springboard onto Punk, but Dinero shoved Raven in the way, and Sabu crashed into the chair Raven was holding. However, Raven grabbed Dinero with a DDT for the pin in six minutes. Winners: Raven & Sabu.
Raven grabbed the mic and talked about what an unstoppable force he and Sabu were. However, Raven said he has not forgotten about his destiny, and promised to get Jeff Jarrett and the NWA World Title.
Scott Hudson interviewed AJ Styles, who said his match with Abyss was not about the Tag Titles, it was about something more. Styles said Abyss tried to end his career, and he was looking for revenge tonight.
A video hyping America's X Cup II, Mexico vs. Canada, on March 10th was shown. Mike Tenay said a Japanese X Cup team was going to be issuing a challenge soon as well.
Scott Hudson was going to interview Jonny Fairplay, but Lollipop interrupted so she could introduce him. Fairplay said there wasn't going to be an edition of "Playing Fair With Jonny" because of AJ Styles interrupting him last week. Fairplay said he was going to have a surprise for Styles. Fairplay also kept claiming that he brings up the ratings on TNA during his segment, which is funny since they are on Pay-per-view and there are no ratings for quarter hour segments.
