potvin's not a bad backup. Especially being a vet and entering the playoffs

Rayzor will win the calder

I doubt he's gonna win.

Ryder has already pretty much won it.

Rayzor is nasty

MoRcHeEbA
02-29-2004, 10:52 PM
also how do they define a rookie anymore? like do they have a cut off for the calder trophy or something?? like how many games do they play before they're not rookies?(example: Raycroft played 15 games for boston two years ago but is still considered a rookie this year)

Yashamaga
02-29-2004, 10:53 PM
Ryder's been the best forward, but goaltending is the most important part of a team and many experts have said that Raycroft's a lock.

you can't really argue with his #s

MoRcHeEbA
02-29-2004, 10:54 PM

not denying that he's a good goalie but they usually don't give the calder to a goalie. Ryders got 49 points in 65 games, that stat stands out more to people then a 22-15-7 record.

im not arguing with his number but you can say the same thing for ryder.

People have also said he's a lock to win it.

the rookie eligibility rules are something like if you play a maximum of (something games, I think 20) within the course of two seasons then you're a rook.

I'll brb with the official ruling

Yashamaga
02-29-2004, 10:58 PM
yeah but you didn't mention his GAA and SV%

MoRcHeEbA
02-29-2004, 11:00 PM
im not saying that he shouldnt win im saying that its' gonna go to either of them it's way tougher for a goalie though because they don't look just at his stats they look at the defence infront of him too.

Raycroft deserves to win it IMO. I doubt the Bruins would make the playoffs without him.

Yashamaga
02-29-2004, 11:06 PM
Ok I got the ruling...

Rookie Qualifications
To be considered a rookie, a player must not have played in 25 or more NHL games in any preceding seasons, nor in six or more NHL games in each of any two preceding seasons. Any player at least 26 years of age (by September 15th of that season) is not considered a rookie.

http://nhl.com/nhlhq/faq/hockey_ops.html#rookie

Andrew Raycroft
- 15 gms in 2000-01
- 1 gm in 2001-02
- 5 gms in 2002-03

Raycroft is still considered a rookie.

Yashamaga
02-29-2004, 11:08 PM

wow, he just made it.

exactly

He deserves the Calder, the Hart, Jennings, and the Vezina

and give him the Art Ross too

Why don't more guys wear the face thing like Thorton does (I know he wears it now because of an injury) everyone in HS and college does it

Y2Ant
03-01-2004, 12:05 AM
It gets in their way sometimes, like when someone skids and ice chips hit it and get water on it and shit, personally i'd just wear one anyway with all those eye injuries :o

Yashamaga
03-01-2004, 12:09 AM
Thornton hates that cage, but he's said he's had a half dozen sticks clang off of it since he's had it.

I guess because up until the 90s you didn't have to wear helmets at all, so they don't want it too watered down

I don't even know what Xcel Energy is. But since thats the name of the Wild's arena and the Wild players are celebrating in the picture I put 2 and 2 together.

The picture would've been funny last year, but the truth is that Dan Cloutier is arguably the best goalie in the NHL right now (perhaps Martin Brodeur is the only goalie who is more coveted right now). Cloutier's stats and records speak for themselves. Cloutier is probably the most technically sound goalie in the NHL.

MoRcHeEbA
03-01-2004, 02:10 AM
I  you Heyman, Cloutier is quite a well rounded keeper this year, I think Hedberg helps him with that cause he's a capable starter himself. I would say there is probably about 5-7 better goalies then cloutier though.

yeah clouts has been really solid, that and the canucks have been much improved defensilvely this year. i have no problems heading into the playoffs with dan as our goalie. besides if you look at the western confrence, the only goalie with any bit of solid playoff experience is probably joseph (though he hasn't done much in ages) voukoun, abesier, turco, mclennan, all relative newcommers to the playoff experience. i'll take cloutier over those guys considering he's had the last few seasons or so to get his feet wet.

The following goalies are better than Cloutier

Belfour
Turco
Brodeur
Vokoun
Theodore
Lalime
Andre Racicot
Allan Bester
Troy Gamble
Peter Ing
Goldberg from the Mighty Ducks Movies

current top 5 goalies IMO

1.Luongo
2.Raycroft
3.Turco
4.Brodeur
5.Cujo

Yashamaga
03-01-2004, 05:42 PM
btw, you might ask why Brodeur isn't higher.

His numbers are inflated because of his defense. He gets 15 save shutouts often , and the devils are the most defense-oriented team in the leauge. on ANY other team he wouldn't put up close to those numbers.

However, Luongo faces 40 SHOTS a night behind that terrible defense. It's crazy. and his GAA is around mid 2's even though.

you put Luongo on the Devils and his GAA will be under 1. He'd break the shutout record.

Supreme Olajuwon
03-01-2004, 05:54 PM
ok well then what about Roloson and Weekes then

Yashamaga
03-01-2004, 06:50 PM
Roloson is already on a defensive team and Weekes' team sucks.

They're both probably high in the top 10

MoRcHeEbA

Brodeur
Turco
Lalime (when he plays good)
Theodore
Kiper

top my IMO

This season

1.Luongo
2.Brodeur
3.Raycroft
4.Theodore
5.Vokoun

I'd put Kipersoff on there if he had more games under his belt

And Yash, how can you say that Cujo is a top 5 goalie when hes only played 26 games?

Good list Eli, but Turco and Belfour should be on it. Hmmm, I guess that makes your list just passable.

The Icon of Elisim

I have trouble leaving off Turco but no so much Belfour since he won't be finishing the season. I could've easily put Turco on there instead of Vokoun but I just like to give some attention to the lesser known guys.

ROFL @ saying Brodeur is only good because of his defence

lol oh man, you're fuc</>king stupid.

I said his numbers are inflated. I don't remember saying that he's not good. He's been the best in the last 10 years, but this year - it's mostly on his defense.

Yashamaga
03-01-2004, 11:12 PM
And Yash, how can you say that Cujo is a top 5 goalie when hes only played 26 games?

He's played excellent despite the whole Hasek ordeal and has really bailed the wings out of some games.

Nope. Rafalski's been out for less than a week cheeba.

Stevens is the MVP of the devils and since he's been out, Mar-Bro's stats have weakened.

but he's still had a top defense surround him and the team that is most focused on defense.
