Bud Mackey, one of the top high school basketball players in the country was arrested at his high school today on 2 felony counts on charges of cocaine/crack trafficking and trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of school. Mackey who is 18 years old led Scott County High School in Kentucky to a state championship and an unbeaten record in the state during his Jr. season last year. Mackey and Scott County got national attention this past Feb on ESPN by upsetting then #1 ranked in the country Huntington High who had 2 of the best high school stars in the country in USC's O.J. Mayo and Kentucky's Patrick Patterson. Mackey 18, is a 6 ft 4 PG who had committed to Indiana and was ranked #35 overall in the the nation. He was one of the favorites for Kentucky Mr. Basketball and Scott County was favored to repeat as state champs and a contender for one of the nations top teams on the USA Today poll. Many projected Mackey as a strong contender to make the McDonalds All American Team.
I think its very sad that a player with so much potential as Mackey has basically thrown it all away.
