Wu-Tang > Lost

Strange comparison yes, but a valid one I feel

Jon Kano
10-14-2007, 09:08 AM
lol yeah wu-tang is not at all greater than lost, artistically, or flat-out realistically. If this thread does not reflect such a notion, then maybe when you realise their shit is basically all the same you will.

Onyx are way better anyway.

ct2k
10-14-2007, 09:19 AM
Like I said it was a ridiculous comparison not meant to be taken seriously but ok:

Off the top of my head The Wire, The Sopranos and Six Feet Under are absolutely leagues ahead of Lost in almost every way I can think which makes a tv drama good, dialogue, storytelling, artistic vision, casting, hell if you wanna add a bit of the sensational so are The Shield, Oz and 24.

I can't do the same for Wu-Tang, obviously they have contemporaries and other groups and artists have been just as acclaimed and influential, but I've never seen or heard anything trashy or pulpy about their music and never heard a group I thought was out and out superior to them.

Meh, opinion I guess, but I think you're putting them down to be different, not because you actually think they're artistically lacking.

Kris P Lettus
10-15-2007, 01:08 PM
I love how Jon Kano and Kane Knight are experts on everything..

..including grimey NY Hip Hop..

ct2k
10-15-2007, 01:19 PM
Also how the hell is all their stuff the same? How the fuck is Enter the Wu the same as Wu-Tang Forever? Lyrically for a start they are entirely different, not to mention the production is less raw on ETW, and the fact that Masta Killa is yknow, actually on it for more than 30 seconds.

And for that matter, how is The W the same as Iron Flag?

stfu

Jon Kano
10-15-2007, 01:30 PM
I am entitled to my opinion fuck nut. And mine is that all their shit pretty much sounds the same, or what I have heard, warrents no further interest or listening due to the lack of good qualities and traits I can identify with.

Oh, and by the way, I doubt when you talk about good writing, dialogue etc with regards to film and tv, that your knowledge or grasp is as superiror to mine, nor I when it comes against what you know with Wu-Tang lol, so its all down to opinion mixed with what you know.

ct2k
10-15-2007, 01:41 PM
All I know is Lost could be wrapped up with every nagging question answered in 2 episodes, its essentially a science fiction soap, the writers can do what they want, when they want without having to justify any of it until they see fit (ie when viewers stop watching and they decide to pull the plug), well, apart from it being some magical island and a few other 'clues' ofcourse. These clues generally being mere additions to a plotline going nowhere, actual clues would afterall require the story to be leading somewhere. Its a very watchable show, but not exactly cream of the crop.

ct2k
10-15-2007, 01:43 PM
And I honestly don't know what you're looking for in rap that you're not getting from Wu-Tang, unless you're into Crunk ofcourse, yknow, the rap equivalent of Lost

ct2k
10-15-2007, 01:48 PM
Actually I just realised I misread your post so disregard the crunk insult:D

ron the dial
10-15-2007, 04:50 PM
Kano, you can hide behind your opinion all day long. Doesn't change the fact that Wu-Tang's shit does not all sound the same. Forming an opinion based on next to no knowledge of something doesn't mean that is has to be respected or even acknowledged.

Jon Kano
10-16-2007, 01:52 PM
Yeah I agree, but you're being a dick when you simply dismiss what I know. I know ct2k didn't study film or does much to do with tv etc, but then he does know his Wu-Tang. You don't know how much I have listened to, or know of Wu-Tang, so without knowing what I know, just because its opposite to what you think, you assume I know nothing. Thats where your flaw really lies.

ron the dial
10-16-2007, 02:44 PM
How much have you listened to? I'm betting it's next to nothing. But please tell me that I'm wrong and then bring up something irrelevant like ct2k's knowledge of television which has nothing at all to do with the fact that you know nothing about Wu-Tang.

Jon Kano
10-16-2007, 03:39 PM
See, how do you know that? seriously, its a possibility since yeah I might not, but you don't know anything about me really. And to simply assume I know nothing, JUST BECAUSE you don't like my opinion....lol....I can't really get into it because its just such a stupid situation really.

Thing is, I do know a fair bit, listened to them for a long time, over different periods of my life and fact is, thats the truth.

I doubt I am the only Wu-Tang listener/fan to think they sound the same anyway, so whats the real problem? why are you throwing your toys out of the pram?

Kris P Lettus
10-16-2007, 05:15 PM
Are you saying all their albums sound the same or each MC sounds the same cause either way, you are wrong..

10-16-2007, 06:44 PM

10-18-2007, 10:45 PM
wow, comparing my favourite television show with my favourite rap/hip hop/musical artists group. I love the wu-tang clan and Lost immensly... I would give entertainment edge to Lost, it's the most interesting television story I've ever followed. Good eye for the dharma initiative spot.

Lost and the WU should collaborate!

Kris P Lettus
10-19-2007, 01:23 PM
Hey guys lets compare hamburgers to Pulp Fiction!!

ct2k
10-19-2007, 01:24 PM
Hey come on, Kano goaded me into it:roll:

ct2k
10-19-2007, 01:25 PM
Besides I was comparing them to eachother specifically so much as comparing the positions Wu-Tang's music and Abram's series hold within their artistic fields

Kris P Lettus
10-19-2007, 01:29 PM
It's ridiculous regaurdless..

I mean, music is subjective.. As are TV/movies.. The entire argument is based on opiniun then you throw in the fact that you are in essence comparing apples to oranges, it makes the entire argument retarded..

ct2k
10-19-2007, 01:37 PM
Almost everything people argue about is subjective. Kano decided a musical group who have been widely critically acclaimed made generic music and that a television show which has not been widely critically acclaimed nor particularly influential is some kind of televisual bible. I questioned why he was so dismissive of one and so adulating of the other and threw in a little of my opinion on the two for good measure.

Get over it

Kris P Lettus
10-19-2007, 01:40 PM
You are arguing with Kano and you tell me to "get over it"..

Awesome albums though..

I can't find any decent Wu Wear sites except some stupid fucking Wu Wear Europe site where a t shirt is like $40.

Kris P Lettus
03-08-2008, 12:08 PM
I used to find them at places like TJ Max or Marshal's.. But, this was like 10 years ago when Wu Wear was pretty big..

Kris P Lettus
03-24-2008, 08:56 PM
Ok, track 1 through 3 are fucking immense..

Like, I find myself, every time I'm in the car, just starting it on track one and letting it play..

RZA production is sick.. Specially how the bass line gets real high on parts of track 3 but it's mad random.. I def think this is U-God's best work.. Also, Method Man is still silky smooth on every track.. RZA's solo track (9 I think) is lovely.. It's like "Thai Chi" off of Birth of a Prince.. "As My Heart Gently Weeps" is a great sample.. Still digging the ODB song too..

Gotta listen to this several dozen more times before it's going to be played on IMO..

p.s. track 14

ct2k
03-24-2008, 09:27 PM
U-God is probably my favourite of the Wu right now actually

Kris P Lettus
03-24-2008, 09:35 PM
He is not bad by any means but has def ridden the botton of the ranking as far as Wu MCs go.. Redemption: Golden Arms was aiight.. Didn't he another solo after that?? If so I never heard it..

:dunno:

Gonzo
03-24-2008, 10:13 PM
U God doesn't hardly gets the credit he deserves. Zilla is a dirt MC, just bigger names he rides with unfortunately, so he is kept out of the limelight.

Also, I didn't really like the track Sunlight. I should say that it is my least favorite, rather than I disliked it because I enjoyed the whole CD. I felt that Sunlight was a half hearted effort for some reason, just got that vibe.

Favorite tracks definitely gotta be Unpredictable, Heart Gently Weeps, Wolves, Stick Me For My Riches and Life Changes.

Kris P Lettus
03-24-2008, 10:17 PM
What track number is "sunlight"??

As I said, I've been jamming this in the car and haven't really learned the track names..

Gonzo
03-25-2008, 12:57 PM
10 I think. Its RZA's solo track.

Kris P Lettus
03-25-2008, 12:59 PM
I like that song alot..
