Alright, I just caught the last minute or so of Smackdown, and I was thinking about the 619. I hate it. Seriously, it's cool when it comes out of nowhere, but when it's totally and blatantly staged, it annoys me.

Or when the guy puts his hands up in front of his face before it hits. Or worse when they hit the 2nd rope, fall off yet climb back onto it. Wtf?

Dear Kane Knight,

WINE, DINE, AND 619 ME!!!!

To compel people to cling to the ropes?

That's a shitty superpower.

End of story.

Terrible move, just...terrible.

I'm not a fan of the move either, as an offensive attack. I love seeing it as a fake dive. In general, I have a problem with moves that take too long to setup and execute.

Say what you want to justify it, Rey's tripped his opponent, dropping him throat-first onto the ropes, stunning him... Rey still has to taunt, run off the opposite ropes, run back and kick the guy in the face. Surely, the guy isn't stunned enough to roll off the ropes and onto the floor by then.

It's the same problem I have with HBK tuning up the band for some Sweet Chin Music (sorry TOVO), the Worm or the People's Elbow. Give me a move that is sudden and comes out of nowhere.

The People's Elbow was GREATNESS!!!!

No one will ever drop an elbow like The Rock, no one.

One big difference for me, is that those moves you mentioned don't have to be so carefully placed. The Worm and People's Elbow is just somebody out on their back in the ring, which can happen a variety of ways. The "Tuning Up The Band" is just some taunting to a dazed opponent before the Sweet Chin Music.

Now, the 619 however, they have to land in just a particular way dangling over the second rope...:nono:

That just makes it even more ridiculous.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I lost count of the number of times I marked out over the move. I have especially fond memories (and still have footage) of the Rock standing over a prone British Bulldog, throwing his sunglasses in the crowd, bouncing off one rope and upon bouncing off the second rope, slides over to the Bulldog to deliver the elbow. Great moment for me.

It's just as I've watched more wrestling and my tastes have changed, I tend to be less tolerable of little things like that. I probably shouldn't take it so seriously and just relax and enjoy what I'm seeing, but it's a bit of a struggle for me.

I don't mind it as a move, it's just that it should really be a spontaneous thing. That it happens in like every match, even if Rey loses, sometimes more than once. It's so hokey in that context.

The People's Elbow wasn't even Rocky's finisher. It was always the insult to injury move. You had the Rock Bottom, a Spinebuster, etc., which were the real finishers. Sweet Chin Music can be hit from anywhere, and he "tunes up the band" only when his opponenet's down, which is again, a taunt thing. Oh, and the Worm hasn't hit since three weeks after it debuted.

The 619 originated in either Mexico or Japan (not 100% sure) but was used as a fake out move. Person on outside of ring would see opponent run towards rope thinking they were going to jump, then they would do a 619. Thats it, there was no laying down on the ropes long enough for the Pudgy Fatass to swing hit legs into someone's face. It real name is the Tiger Feint Kick or something along those lines. Point is the move isn't supposed to be used that way, explaining why it looks so damn awkward...

We all know what it was, someone even spelled that out.

Kane Knight

It's actually cool as an attack move instead of a feint.

I've got no problem with it, so much as the contrived setup. The Leg Trip shit works like, once a month. Tops.

I don't like it because I never see anybody hanging onto the 2nd rope unless they are facing Rey Mysterio

Yeah, its like how people only conveniently fall down into the corner when they face Rikishi/Junior Fatu

To me, after HHH and Orton fell into it at Rumble 06, and both got 619'd at the same time, I just DESPISED that move!

How the hell do you manage to knock out 2 main eventers at the same time with that move? Just horrible.

So if you hate the 619 its mean you got to hate Jericho, Austin and Henry running attack with the guy on the second rope, Austin and Henry don't lose time but Jericho taunt a lot (Ali dance) before doing it.

Crossrine

Someone remind me what was Jericho's second rope move that looked anything like the 619

ozzman6669

The guy is on the second rope, Jericho does a little dance, run to the opposite rope, come back and jump on the guy.

If you are talking about the Lionsault, where Jericho does a moonsault off the second rope, that is NOWHERE CLOSE to a 619.

He's not talking a lionsault.

I don't remember what the move is called, but it's sort of an inverted Bronco Buster.

It's also not a finisher, and I think for most of Jericho's career it wasn't even a common move.

Yes that's what I was talking, in his last heel run he used it a lot. The 619 is not a finisher either, it's a setup move for the West Coast Pop or the Drop of the Dime.

I can't believe anyone thought it was a good idea for him to 619 at ONS.

To what YOUR Hero said...anyone catch Heroes last week?

Introduced a new wrestler last week who has the ability to learn anything after seeing it preformed. One of the first things she learns is the 619 from watching Wrestlemania 22. The end of the episode she uses the 619 to knock out a guy robbing her store. Just out of everything...that's what they have her do.

So you're right YH...it is a super hero power.

That's my biggest concern with the move. The only time you see guys perfectly draped over the second rope, is when they are in there with Mysterio. Most of the time they position themselves like that. I like how he hit it on Finlay at No Mercy.

Yeah, but she didn't make him stick to the ropes first. No super power.
