View Full Version : So I hate rap/hip hop...

...but for some odd reason I love Kanye West. I have all of his albums and work his songs into mix tapes full of alternative/rock stuff. I have no idea why this is.

Do any of you absolutely hate a certain genre of music but have one artist that is an exception to the rule?

Kanye is a pop artist really, though I have no problem with that because he produces very enjoyable music

Kanye is removed somewhat from the horrifically cliched world of rap/hip hop whatever the fuck you want to call it.

I think it's becasue he actually has some kind of musical talent, unlike 99.99% of the fucking jokers that get record deals.

I don't hate any genre, I like at least two artists from each genre, but I do like certain genre's better than others.

There are just as many, if not more, shitty rock acts than rap.. What you think of a "rap" I think of as "pop".. You can not cast aside an entire culture because of the shitty trends in pop music today.. Yes, Kanye is in a small percentage of the good in bubblegum rap today, but saying he's 00.01% of the good in all of Hip Hop is not only absurd but it's also disrespectful to an entire culture..

Nark Order

Maybe the entire culture you are speaking of should stop making bad music.

Kris P Lettus

One again, basing your opinion of all of Hip Hop by what's played on the radio, would be like someone basing their opinion of rock music on Avril Lavigne or Hinder..

You require more vespene gas.

But for real, unless you're looking into stuff that doesn't get radio play, you're not gonna find a whole lot of good stuff these days. While there are some guys out in the mainstream who actually are good (Busta Rhymes, Nas, etc), I think you would enjoy guys like Del The Funky Homosapien, Atmosphere and El-P more.

"Rock"

Yeah, I agree but like rap/hiphop, there are sub-genres, as you know.

With rock I would classify this as soft Pop/Rocks.

The type of rap and hiphop I extremely dislike is the gangsta rap about ho's bitches, nines, aks, ice, and bling.

Exactly..

People here tend to group all "Hip Hop" together but Soulja Boy is looked at by true Hip Hop fans like Avril is to people like you guys..

My roomate is a fairl well know dj here in Halifax

DJ S:EC

I appreciate his music, as he has alot of talent, and its opened my eyes to how kickass beats are.

Also I have and sometimes do listen to some rap and hiphop for hours on end, but as todays airwaves are flooded with the same sounding shit, I tend to dislike rap and hiphop alot nowadays, I prefer older stuff myself.

Kris P Lettus
12-02-2007, 01:32 AM
That's the thing, you are basing the state of Hip Hop on the ringtone rap that is flooding the airwaves.. There is still alot of great hip hop around.. (NEW WU TANG IN A FEW DAYS).. There are plenty of acts in 2007 that are putting out good music.. I mean, most of the shit that people on here say they listen on a regular basis, I bet 90% of them are still making music..

I can't escape that shit anywhere, Its either Umbrella, Big Girls Don't Cry, Crazy Bitch, or In Da Club.

[color="silver"] No Offense, I still don't like WTC that much, although they are not the worst I have heard.

Its hard to find hiphop I like nowadays, Its usually an old skooler whose old tracks I listen to, or new stuff I give a try and don't like as much.

I got Graduation but I only like 3 or 4 songs. I like College Dropout better. Got it after I returned from Hawaii (I went to the mall in Hawaii wanting to get this CD real bad, while I left my girl at the beach unattended, finally arrived at the mall only to realize that it wasn't Sept 11. It was like Sept 9. Totally lost track of the date. I blame the sun)

I bumped this CD for a week or so, and got bored of it. Good Life is probably my favorite track
