View Full Version : Wrestling Holds/Finishers you just don’t see anymore

Apologies if this has been done recently.

While writing my first post and reminiscing about all those Old-School wrestlers, I started thinking about Killer Karl Kox.

KKK was my favourite heel as a kid and his “devastating” finisher was the Brain Buster.

For those of you who don’t know the BB, picture a vertical suplex but rather than having your opponent fall on his back, he landed on his head.

Invariably, the medics then had to come to the ring and stretcher out his opponent. Next week, his opponent would show up in a neck brace vowing to get revenge once they got better and selling the “injury” (of course, if Cena had've been around in those days he would've got straight up).

I remember at the live shows the very audible gasps from the crowd  as KKK lifted his opponent into the air and suspended him there before delivering the final blow. Of all the heels, I reckon KKK was the most hated of his time simply because of his signature move.

Was it dangerous? No doubt...if performed by amateurs. But I don’t ever recall a mishap or real injury resulting from KKK performing this move.

There aren’t that many moves that involve dropping your opponent directly on his head. Tombstone (where most of the time, you can see the head miss the mat by miles) and to some degree the DDT (same) are a couple.

But I haven’t seen the BB since the days of KKK which prompts me to ask what other moves have disappeared.

The abdominal stretch.

 One of the lamest holds ever. Who was it recently that applied it to HBK (I think) while he was sitting on the mat? Was it the master of the rest hold?

Remember when heel tag teams used to hold each others arm for leverage on the abdominal stretch when the ref wasn't looking? That was golden.

You know, it never entered my mind. The Klan is non-existent over here.

Apologies to any African-American or Jewish (450) members who may have been offended.

As for being a "Jew Hater", that's not even worthy of a rebuttal. There are very few people I actually hate. I dislike a hell of a lot of people though.

Jericho's hurricanrana to a sitting opponent on the top rope

Tazz's style of suplexes

Rey's hurricanrana follow through under the legs for a sit down pin. I like that time that he never used on Orton who he never pinned to win a non existant title

 Or how Flair will hold onto the ropes for leverage while applying the figure-four, or how any heel will at one point put his feet on the ropes for added leverage while pinning his opponent :wtf:

You never see anybody give up to a figure 4 anymore.
You don't see tag teams with team finishers as much nowadays. (or if you do they suck).
There's really a lot of shitty finishers.

Full nelson slam. I loved it when Test did it. That may have been the best thing Test has ever done. Like, seriously, he could save an orphan from a well and that full nelson slam will still be the best thing he has ever done. He could punch my boss in the dick and yet somehow that full nelson slam will still be the greatest thing he has ever done. Test could freaking cure cancer and that full nelson slam would still top it!

He still preceded to take out his comb, and straighten his slightly out of place hair, run over to Stamford (on torn quads) grab a beer from Steve Austin, run back, drink with Scott Hall, and still make the 3 count.

With JR calling the Walls the Liontamer on RAW, I have hope that it won't be the shitty Boston Crab version.

But it was probably just another JR fuck up, though this time it's what everyone wants.

And yet, he called the Lionsault a Springboard Moonsault, so I don't even know anymore...

What Would Kevin Do?
12-04-2007, 02:46 PM
Someone in the WWE needs to do the IR (Italian Revolution) It's basically a fisherman suplex, but with their one arm crossed in front of their neck and held, and their other arm between their legs and held. So basically a slick looking fishermen suplex with both arms trapped.
