View Full Version : Why are so many multiplayer games sucking ass, these days?

One of the major selling points of Army of Two was online multiplayer and the like. And while I'm one of those neanderthals who still thinks making a game multiplayer and then skimping on the solo player experience is retarded, they're now skimping on multiplayer, too. AoT's online mode sucks. It wouldn't be so bad if online was an afterthought, but it was one of the big focuses of the game.

Now I'm reading all sorts of reviews saying that Mr Driller Online also has problems with the online. I haven't played online yet (And to be honest, I didn't buy the game for online), but it seems a common enough complaint right now. And again, they sold the game on an online mode. It's even right there in the title.

These aren't the only games I have heard these things about, but they are the ones that I own/have played, so they're the ones that stick in my head. It's bad enough that they often screw us out of a single player experience, but now they're screwing us out of a multiplayer experience, which is how they justified treating single player as an afterthough in the first place. Now, there's talks about fixing AoT, and maybe MDO gets patched, but this is pretty dumb.

And while I personally don't feel ripped off by either game (I bought AoT for local multiplayer as a fun way to dick around with friends, and I bought MDO for the dingle player primarily), a lot of people do feel ripped off, which brings me to part two: Why are consumers so goddamn dumb, anyway? How long will people shell out for games that they admittedly hate, despite the trend of nto living up to the promises that sell them?

Lazy developers, or trying to mimic other games. Darkness and Lost Planet both have screwy online play, but good single-player modes.

Dunno dude. Dunno.

Laziness is probably a key factor or just games being rushed to the market by greedy publishers who think they can release a game built on promises and no substance.

I didn't really have too much of a problem with Army Of Two although I found it a little bit too short, whenever I've played Online with a friend it's been a good solid experience and I've not had many problems. I haven't tried it's competitive Online yet but again I've heard it's pretty solid.

The one complaint I have heard a lot regarding it has been that it's region locked in terms of Multiplayer. Whilst I don't really care too much because none of my American friends have the game I can understand why people would be a bit pissed off and baffled at that decision especially considering other games offer fuller Co Op Experiences.

The second question, why are consumers so dumb? It's because consumers believe in hype and what the PR Departments tell them. Either that or we hold out some hope that it will get better.

3D Sonic Games are a perfect example, people know they're going to be complete shit, they bitch about them leading up to the release date and then buy the fucking game anyway and moan because it's shit. It's an endless cycle.

The Smackdown Vs Raw Games have the same story, and I'm guilty of being an idiot with it myself. Getting them and then moaning because they're crap or the same as the last one when I have no one to blame but myself for buying the game.

TBH, I kinda like MMOs...cause of their never endingness, but those are the ones with the smelly nerds that never quit playing and die before they take a break.
