So what is the dealio here, I don't get it. Are you a D-backs fan AND a Cubs fan, what is going on.

What do you mean you don't get it? Dave has been a D-Backs/Cubs fan since day 1 just like I've been a D-Backs/A's fan.

It's been that way since before you joined. This can't possibly be news to you.

lol, Cubs in 3? Come on, now. I don't think that will happen.

I think the Dodgers can take this series. Will be mad difficult, but we can do it.

And if we don't... LAAAAAAAKE SHOWWWW will win it all.

Yeah, I was gonna do Cubs in 4 but there always seems to be at least 1 sweep because one team just doesn't show up.

Regardless of the number of games, pretty confident with the overall picks.

I think the most embarrassing thing about the Brewers is that their stadium is Miller Park. Very overrated beer in my opinion.

The glove and ball logo is actually an m on top of a b (for Milwaukee Brewers). And their newer logo with the M over the piece of barley is one of my personal favorites.

Ted Lilly has been on fire lately. I fully expect him to get the Cubs on the board in game 3.

I catch myself saying " get us " instead of " get the Cubs " . I wanna say us, but i dont live in Chicago.

Nevermind i guess Harden is going for game 3. That actually sets up alot better. Lilly taking it on game 4 and then Zambrano for 5 I would think.

If it gets this far.

SammyG
10-03-2008, 02:24 PM
Yeah, I dunno, Kuroda in game 3, kinda iffy about that. He did throw a 4 hit shutout against them at Dodger Stadium in June, but I dunno. Would rather pitch Kershaw I think. We'll see. A sweep would be fucking amazing, Dodger Stadium is gonna be rockin'.

SWEEP THE CUBS.

I'm not comfortable saying it's over until it actually is, especially in only a 5 game series...but wow. It's amazing how many LOL-worthy teams there are this year in terms of falling short of expectations. In the regular season alone you can throw the Mets, Yankees, Tigers, Indians in there...hell you can even link the Mariners in there since most people thought they would at least finish up a few games over .500

And in the playoffs...the Cubs are definitely in that group if they are knocked out first round, ditto for the Angels. I mean obviously the Red Sox are really good, but if you win 100 games and still can't get past one round, that's awful.

Although I picked Cubs/Angels WS when the playoffs started, I'm really pulling for Rays/Cubs because I'd be happy with either result, a great story either way. Just as long as the Phucking Phils don't get there. :(

I'd hardly call that being a little bitch.

I would. By nature teams with confidence or frustration are going to think that. People don't come out and say it however because its sore, sour and utterly pointless. It also makes you look like an idiot and a little bitch. Any team or athlete who has ever lost could say this, and those who are more deserving to feel so have always refrained.

But really, it's not only totally classless and uncalled for to say, even if you believe it, but it's also false in this case. I could see that sentiment if they went up in the series and blew it in game 5, or let the team come back when they had them near elimination. But the fact of the matter is they got beaten. It would be more accurate to say they're lucky they didn't get swept, again.
The entire series I think they only had a run lead on the red sox for 2 innings.

I don't think he is... the team votes on each player not on the WS roster if they get a playoff share... I don't know if the ring is voted on by the players or if it's up to the owners.

either way, I doubt manny gets a ring.

I know in 2004 they voted for nomar to get money, but I don't think this team gives manny crap.

Hey Hero, I'm not sure what the Jays' offensive situation is, but would you be interested in getting Delgado back? Apparently the Mets are definitely exercising his option, but similar to Gary Sheffield a few years back, they might try to turn around and trade him.

It'd likely cost a bullpen guy and maybe a prospect or two...I'm not entirely sure.

JP and Delgado didn't see things eye to eye too often. Don't know if that would ever happen. There is talk of the Jays going after Giambi. I've always been a Delgado fan, I'd like to see him as a Jay again.

I believe it's because when it gets down the games that "could clinch" a series MLB wants one game per night so it alternates nl/al and there is a game in primetime everynight on a weeknight.

yeah, I could be wrong but I think the ad buy rates are tied into the viewing rates, I'm not sure if it's retro on the current series or directly effects the next year.

Like I think the NFL bases their buyrates off the viewing from the previous year.

MATT STAIRS: Definitely the top. I think it's one of those things where you've been here for a month, you want to get that one big hit where you feel like you're part of the team. Not that I don't feel like I'm part of the team, by no means, but when you get that nice celebration coming into the dugout and you're getting your ass hammered by guys, it's no better feeling than to have that done. The comeback last night wasn't boring by any stretch, I'm just saying that if the Red Sox pull a Cena and overcome the odds again in the ALCS to get to the WS, a Phillies/Red Sox World Series would be immensely boring for me personally.

As I've said, I'm not sure what it is...but I've just never been a fan of repeat championships and dynasties (unless it were my own team, obviously). However, just like the Super Bowl a few years back, when push came to shove I'd probably pull for the Red Sox over the Phillies much like I rooted for the Patriots over the Eagles just because seeing a top rival team winning it would be worse.

I guess I'm just big on unpredictability, hence why I loved rooting for the Rockies last year and the Rays this year...cause come on, who the fuck predicted them to be WS contenders at season's end?

Unfortunately though, when I made my playoff predictions at the beginning of this thread, I picked the Cubs/Angels to be in the WS with the Rays finally realizing it was the playoffs and folding in the ALCS. I clearly blew it on the WS, but I just hope the Rays part isn't wrong too :(

Regardless of who the teams are, I kinda hope the WS goes 7 games or something. I mean 01, 02, 03 were all really exciting and since then the WS has been pretty one sided every year. I think 06 was the only one since that wasnt a sweep.

I don't know if it is or not. Personally I think it's because most of us watch too much ESPN and get sick of hearing about certain teams because it is the same thing every day. Now don't get me wrong I enjoy watching the Red Sox and I hope they win it all again (even after watching them whip my Rockies last year) but I can see where it would be annoying if you don't enjoy them same as with the Celtics/Lakers and definately the Pats and the Cowboys.

It's not that I'm a blinded fan dude...it's a fact. This is the second biggest defecit comeback of all time in postseason history, the only difference is it was accomplished in 2 1/3 innings, rather than over the course of the whole game.
Also, the comeback from 3-0 is the single greatest comeback in a playoff series in the history of all four major American sports. That's an indisputable fact. It's the only time it was done, except I think maybe once in hockey years and years ago.
The 3-1 comeback had only been done a couple times I believe.
The point is, they've also all been done by the same team over the past 4 years.

So yea, I'm not blinded. I'm just citing the facts here. Dismissing them as opinion is blindness.

Look I get that I'm a Sox fan and opinion enters into certain things. But I'm only citing 3 things. And unless I'm missing the records and facts of MLB then I'm not being ignorant at all.
I don't know why it makes you so angry. I was simply explaining why it isn't "boring"

Maybe "greatest" comebacks is a more opinionated term, since perhaps a Mets fan considers a 2 run comeback superior to a 7 due to circumstances and what not. But "from the largest defecits" would be factually correct.

Loose Cannon
10-17-2008, 11:48 AM
yes, if you said "from the largest defecits" I will agree with you. If you went through all the years since the 1800's and found that, then yea, that's a fact. NO Argument.

To me, "greatest comebacks" is more of an opinion.

I'm not angry. it's pointless to get angry on a messageboard  I just am saying my peace. sometimes I say it in a dickish way I guess

Jeritron
10-17-2008, 11:50 AM
I understand that you think theres a lot of opinion into these things. And there is. But I'm not out here yelling the Sox are the greatest team ever, or has the greatest fans, or park, or legacy.
That would be ignorant and biased.

I'm pointing out, for reasons raised, that the comebacks of 04, 07, and last nights single game are among the largest comebacks of all time in sports history. Whether they're preferred or not that's really undisputable. It's just a matter of documentation.
Sorry if you thought this was ignorant. BUT, theres not really any opinion that enters into the question of "Is the 2004 ALCS Red Sox win the biggest comeback of all time" It's a yes or no question, and to answer no is pretty much wrong.

Jeritron
10-17-2008, 11:55 AM
And my main point was that no matter what team is accomplishing such feats, it's hard for me as a baseball fan to view it as boring. Even if it's the same team doing it another time.

great comebacks also have to be broken down by a series or a game.

series 2004 ALCS is up there for me.

single game...
Celtics game 4 2008
that Bills WC game stands out w/ Frank Reich.
same with the Colts AFC win over the Pats.

Jeritron

I said 3-0 had only happened one other time, a long time ago. It happened twice. My bad.

3-1 is a bit more common if you go over all sports, but why don't you look into it in baseball solely. I used all of sports to describe the 3-0 comeback, but not for the 3-1. I said "a couple times" in regard to 3-1 in baseball ONLY.

Don't change what I said

Jeritron

It's only happened three times, and only that one time in baseball is mainly what I'm getting at here. Baseballs also a different sport and comebacks are far more rare

VonErichLives
10-18-2008, 05:24 PM
I guess Hero you should factor in 16 teams make the hockey playoffs, where in baseball it's 8, hence making a 3-1 comeback in baseball more "rare".

Also, Hero... you and senrab may be the only ones on the board who were around to see the 1942 stanley cup finals :p

Big Game James, who's lost the only two big games he's ever pitched. What a fuckin joke. Self proclaimed I'd have to guess
I can't begin to tell you people how much I hate Tampa Bay. Unlike any other team. I have a hard time even respecting them and their claims of shit like that. At least I respect the Yankees and their fanbase, even if I "hate" them.

Lol at those people who've been fans for 3 weeks crying after the game. Good to see they have hope too. Although I can't really blame them, how can they have faith in any type of big win when they've never seen one. Sorry to be a prick here, I just resent that shitty dome full of overnight lifelong fans.

I love Beckett. He only gave up four hits, too bad two were solo shots but nonetheless a great outing that got the job done, especially for a guy who's injured.

I don't think Lester will have another off start. A lot of pressure on Tampa also, while Boston's got serious momentum.

Feel pretty good, but theres still one more game left.
