Would anyone be interested in participating? We would run a draft where 8 people get to draft 5 wrestlers from WWE and TNA and each wrestler is awarded points according to what they're doing on TV. What do you say?

1. Juan :D
2. Narcissus
3. Jeritron
4. Fallen Angel
5. What Would Kevin Do?

I just set up a spreadsheet with Google Docs and I have a system in place for the actual scoring

Juan

Everything regarding the Pool will posted here in the Wrestling forum, I'm not setting up a site or anything.

What Would Kevin Do?

Sure, why not.

A few thoughts:

You shouldn't rush into this if you want it to be good. Take some time, along with everyone interested in this thread discussing ideas. Keep the concept in mind while actually watching wrestling, and then bring thoughts and ideas that come up to here. Wrestling is far to broad of a thing to draw up a set of rules for this overnight.

As for incorporating TNA. That's tough. You should probably stick WWE since it has a bigger talent pool and more television. If you make it cross-promotion theres gonna be inconsistencies and unfair elements.

Champions, and draft picks:
There should be some system where you have to pick different "divisions" of wrestlers. For instance: 3 heavyweights (main eventers), 5 midcarders, 2 tag teams, 1 womens wrestler.
Not neccesarily saying those numbers, but a system like that makes sense. If not, it'd just be a matter of who drafted Cena and HHH and it'd get boring if everyone's roster was simply 5 main eventers.
There'd be no skill involved past the draft, just luck.

Championship wins should be weighted differently. If someone drafts HHH and he wins the title in 2009, should it really count the same as if someone drafts John Morrison and he does? It should be weighted. It'd get too complex if everyone was weighted differently. But maybe, first time title win should count for 3 or 4 X as many points as someone who's won it 5 times.
Title wins in their division should have a set bonus, maybe double points if it's a higher ranking title.
Maybe points awarded for each week of a reign.

Another thing. The draft itself. It's going to be tough to get everyone under one roof, even if a date and time is set in advance. We may have to draw up a ranking list where we can auto-pick for draft no shows.

Jeritron

Also, wins counting as any kind of point system is tricky. That brings into play the amount of matches wrestled. Therefore, for the intents and purposes of the contest someone like Matt Hardy or Kofi Kingston who wrestle 2 or more matches a week is technically a wiser pick than Undertaker.

Maybe win-loss ratio.

The scoring is all figured out. I used elements from a Wrestling Fantasy League site and from the actual pools I was involved in at another board I used to post at.

You may have a point with the TNA thing though. Those pools I was involved in were WWE only, I think that's a change I'm definitely going to make.

Winning a Championship awards more points than the standard wrestling match. All wins and losses are scored the same no matter the "main event" status of the wrestler.

The way the draft worked at that other place was that each person gets one wrestler per round, and if the next person didn't select in the allotted time, that person would be skipped. We were a small bunch, so we would normally allow the person to select at the end of the round.

We all picked one guy each round, then the last guy would pick twice and the order would start from the bottom again, so that last guy is guaranteed some good selections.

There were no limitations on who you could pick though.

Juan

I WILL be taking this one step at a time though, so there is no confusion by the time it's time to roll.

Juan
11-03-2008, 12:55 AM
This is how I plan to do the scoring....

Wrestling in a Televised match (one on one or tag match) automatically gets you 50 points. So if a wrestler in your POOL STABLE does not wrestle a match on TV, you get ZERO points for that wrestler. In turn, if all 5 of your wrestlers compete in a match, you're in good shape.

The LOSER gets another 50 points, while the WINNER gets 100.

A win by DQ/COUNTOUT is only worth 50 points, whereas a NO CONTEST awards no extra points.

Wrestling in a CHAMPIONSHIP match automatically gets you 100 points.

LOSER points stay the same in CHAMPIONSHIP matches.

Winning any CHAMPIONSHIP gets you 250 points.

POINTS in SPECIALTY matches will vary depending on the situation.

I might have overlooked certain situations, as far as how to get points, so if there are any questions/feedback, let me know.

Here's an example. Say I drafted the following wrestlers and the draft started last week....

JUAN
CM Punk
Undertaker
The Miz
Kelly Kelly
Charlie Haas

So at the end of the week, my stable would look like this...

JUAN
CM Punk - 450 (100 points for being in the championship match, 100 for winning the match and 250 for winning a title on top of it)
Undertaker - 150
The Miz - 150
Kelly Kelly - 150
Charlie Haas - 50

Now we just need to iron out the scoring/draft order. After that, we can set the start date.

Juan
11-07-2008, 02:29 AM
well, i can't think of a clever way to set the draft order, so is anyone opposed to just using the order in which people signed up???

Juan
11-07-2008, 02:33 AM
Monday is a day when the Wrestling Forum is most active, so if we can iron this out by then and we get everyone in here to show up, Monday just might be the day we start the Draft.

Jeritron
11-07-2008, 03:52 AM
We should just draw names out of a hat. I have no problem with doing that, or allowing someone to do it, as I trust everyone involved and think we could employ a TPWW honors system

Jeritron
11-07-2008, 03:53 AM
Once you have the order of the first round sorted out, the other rounds can be layed out. I'm not exactly sure how it's done, but by looking at a fantasty baseball/football draft order example it will be easy to do

Juan
11-07-2008, 03:58 AM
This is what I'm thinking....

(Let's say for arguments sake that this is the order)

1. Juan
2. Narcissus
3. Jeritron
4. Fallen Angel
5. What Would Kevin Do?
6. Gertner
7. thedamndest
8. Blitz

In the first round, we go down the list. I pick, then Narcissus picks etc etc. Then when it comes to Blitz's turn, he picks twice and then theddy goes as the order starts from the bottom again. Does that make sense?

Juan
11-07-2008, 04:01 AM
Also, I'm all for drawing names. Who wants to volunteer?

Jeritron
11-07-2008, 04:01 AM
I'm not sure if it does. Then aren't the people in the middle doomed to be fucked every round?
I can't really remember how the order of a fantasy draft goes so we'd have to look at those.

Also, you and I have early picks. But it sucks for people who signed up and get last pick.
First come first serve seems unfair in this situation. I know it's hard to give up first pick, but this is also coming from someone who has third pick which is pretty damn good, and I'll probably lose it. I think you should pick names out of a hat.

Juan
11-07-2008, 04:10 AM
Yeah, the middle and the end (towards the end of the Draft) get slim pickings, but after the draft I'm gonna start a "Trade/Sign/Release" thread that also contains all the free agents. This is how we did it at the other board I used to post at, but I'm open to ideas.

Jeritron
11-07-2008, 04:15 AM
I just did a completely honest and clean hat drawing. I wrote everyones name on little peices of paper, bunched them up into equal sized balls, and shook them up in a hat. I drew them once and once only and I have the results.
I stake my entire TPWW name on the integrity.

Are we using it?

If I draft CM Punk, can I bench him when the ragsheets say he's in the doghouse? That's just basic safety.

Yeah, after the draft, I'm gonna make a thread with all the free agents where you can release a wrestler and sign a new one or trade with someone else.

I say whoever drafts their pick sends a PM to the person next in line to pick so nobody forgets. but just do it whenever

This is a great idea. This is what we should do.
